As a drummer, having ever so slightly lost some hearing already this movie made me cry about 9 times because this is absolutely my nightmare. Riz Ahmed did such a good job I felt all of his emotions completely, never been so effected by a movie or performance.
I'm a singer and former Marine. I get bad pings and high pitched pings from out of no where, where all I can here is the same high pitched ping I heard back when I was in combat. This movie made me ball. I work at UPS and this deaf man came in and we talked a little in ASL. I wrote down the name of this movie on paper for him and he walked out. Maybe 3 months later he came back in and was like "Yeah man. That's fuckin it." He didn't give many shits about ASL and held his own through lip reading,, and was solidified I am his resolve in being a deaf person, which I respect. But I was so happy to have shared this movie with him.
Honesty in film is a beautiful thing.
Just soak in the true message of the movie - those implants are a fake scam sold by the globalists
I drum in a sludge metal band this film just made me appreciate my hearing so much prioritising ear plugs every practise from now on
I sat in the empty theater for about 5minutes after it was over just thinking about what I experienced. A truly great piece of art.
And I wanted my money back after this garbage.
As someone who works at a movie theater, that is very annoying
@@ianmccune6566 lol deal with it.
Incredibly deep movie. Best I’ve seen in a long time
@@sumwonkool lol we kick those people out
Riz is literally THE PERFECT ACTOR. I have watched him over the years, playing the widest range of characters that exist in the acting scope, and I swear..... He nails every single performance every time. And without, say, makeup or dramatic body or costume transformations, he disappears into every role. And the way he gets every performance across..... MAGIC. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Perfection incarnate as an actor.
I feel exactly the same way about Oscar Isaac. And he’s effortlessly cool as well.
That was a deep movie. Best movie I’ve seen in a long time. I always wondered how rock and metal musicians kept this from happening to them cause night after night it’s very loud.
Check out the band The Ghost Inside. They were in a bus accident in 2015 that severely injured all five members, leaving one in a coma for a month and the drummer having his leg amputated above the knee. They just released their first album since the accident last year.
Nowadays they have IEMs that are modeled to the shape of their ear and canal. It significantly cuts back on volume. It’s fairly safe to play around these volumes now since people have been more educated on ear protection
It was very good and engaging
*This is scary for any one to go through . But for a musician it's a nightmare*
Im a drummer. Always always always wear earplugs. Always
Following the lives of these characters makes a person feel as if one is experiencing all the emotions that they are. More relatable than following people of royalty, for sure.
It’s more common relating to struggle, much easier than privilege. In my humble opinion.
This dude is a good actor. He plays a lot of different roles and plays them good. I haven’t seen this movie yet but I’m about it.
This guy is my favorite actor right now. Incredible performance and a very good film. Must watch
One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
@@adamfulghum4475 Well yeah, I've seen a lot of good movies. A lot of shitty ones too
@@GhoulGrundle this one was one of the worst I’ve seen in awhile.
@@adamfulghum4475 Really? That's a weird take.
@@GhoulGrundle yes really! That was one of the most ridiculous movies I’ve seen in awhile. The plot had holes, the acting was subpar and the delivery of the topic at hand was confusing.
@@adamfulghum4475 I disagree but fair enough.
This dude KILLED in this movie. I cried so many times. I play music, I enlisted in the Marines, tuned pipe organs for 12 years. I have a tough time conversationally but am grateful everyday I can still hear. If you’ve ever experienced temporary deafness or really bad tinnitus you can relate to how horrifying an experience he had to portray. All around, every aspect of this character he nailed it all. Bravo
I knew he was a good actor when he was in “The night of” on HBO
He was in Star Wars wasn’t he? Lol but yeah super good actor
He was a venom to
I know he was in a ton of other stuff I’m just saying I liked him in that show
Also Nightcrawler
Also on night crawler
There is absolutely nothing worse than losing your hearing as a musician as if you got a life sentence to prison but in your head with no more music..
I’ve been a drummer for 10+ years now and I have to say I wish I took the preventative measures to preserve my hearing early on. My tinnitus has been getting worse over the years. Preserve your hearing while you can!
I agree. This is definitely my favorite movie of all time. Great acting.. great everything.
@@adamfulghum4475 hey it's my opinion
I have seen plenty of movies thank you.
I think this is the only film that truly captures deafness
try coda
The first band I ever played in used floor monitors, and I remember my ears ringing the rest of the night. The next band used in-ear monitors and it not only saved my hearing, but I was able to play more accurately since I could control the volume of the various instruments and vocals independently. Now I am a woodworker and I use the large over-the-ear 3M Bluetooth headphones when I'm in my shop. Hearing protection is so important.
I watched this film 4 times after I found out I was going to lose my hearing and now I can’t even hear this movie
Hoping this movie wins something it was actually dope
And I want Jeff Goldblum to be the presenter
This movie HAS TO WIN.
This should have won/or should win multiple awards. One of the best movies in a LONG time. Best Actor too. He was great.
That youth of today hoodie though 👀
My fav band lol
I didn't know Davide Blaine played drums. That's so cool
This movie is underrated asf
Not what I expected at all. Amazing film.
I love this movie a lot! Riz Ahmed deserved an award for his performance
This movie deserves it. What a fantastic film.
Bet ima go watch it now
Let's be real, the entire run time should be on here for oscar-worthy moments!!
@Cade Kylan uyyuuii is
The movie is garbage though
Jake Gyllenhaal: “Steady hands. Use the zoom focus”
Rick: “You saw him. You saw him”
Jake Gyllenhaal: “I can’t jeopardize my company’s success to retain an untrustworthy employee” ☝️😎
At least he’s wearing a Youth Of Today hoodie
True that.
one of the best movies ive ever seen
loove this movie riz ahmed such a talented actor he deserve an oscar for that role
This is my worse nightmare as a drummer...
Interviewer-"so cograts on your nominations, how was it common an awesome movie with a sweet cast?"
(Totally forgot his name)- "I bang the drums"
I need to see this movie.
It’s the guy from Nightcrawler! Awesome!
I’m a drummer and I have been playing since I was 16 and I have always wore earplugs/hearing protection every time I play. My hearing would be fried if I hadn’t worn earplugs.
For eight months, Ahmed prepared for the film by spending two hours a day learning American Sign Language, two hours a day taking drum lessons, two hours a day with a personal trainer and the remainder with his acting coach.
THAT takes dedication.
Bro this film was so good
Still waiting for prime Canada to get it.
Oscar deserves
Oscar nominations are garbage these days!
Both him and Gyllenhaal should've been nominated for NIghtcrawler. Long overdue for him. WAAAAAAAAY TOO LONG.
My Auntie is going deaf. She keeps having mini-strokes or seizures they can't diagnose, and her hearing is going a little at a time with each episode. A steroid helped give back her hearing, but you can't stay on that type of medication for long. I wanna recommend this movie to her. Maybe the implant will give her some hope!
estaba en su prime
The wheel of time trailer please :(
This is why you wear attenuated ear plugs
As a deaf person, I have no idea what this movie is about
Paul raci not getting oscar love is a literal war crime.
Nice
Its all gone pete tong
I wonder how does it feel to talk without hearing the feedback of your voice?
Yeah I'm trying to imagine it. I guess you'd feel the vibrations of your voice through different parts of your body and focus more on the movements of your muscles when you speak. If you went deaf later in life maybe you imagine the sounds in your head to get an idea of how things would sound.
That leads me to wonder what thinking is like for people born deaf. I assume it would be more abstract concepts and images than having an inner monologue, but I wonder if they think in words/language like when I "talk" in my head. I really wonder how they imagine sound to be like as well, it must seem so abstract.
@@chrisbeaumont4630 I've worked in the Deaf community for over 20 years and during that time, I've had many friends all over the hearing spectrum. Some of my most profound friendships have been with Deaf people. That being said, I do not have the right to speak on their behalf.
What I can tell you, based on the conversations that I've had with my Deaf friends is that many do have an inner dialogue. Some of them have described it like signing, some of them have described it like a voice (even though these were friends of mine who had been deaf since birth). At one point in my life, I even had a Deaf friend of mine who was schizophrenic and she described having audio hallucinations. I cannot imagine what that must be like for them.
To the question of speaking without being able to hear your voice, put in Airpods and listen to white noise on full volume or go to a very loud concert. You will not be able to perceive your own voice. Judging your own volume is especially difficult.
What really makes me wonder is, some of my friends over the years have developed a fairly clear voice. Imagine trying to learn a new language without ever being able to hear it. That's ostensibly what they have done. They learned English without ever hearing a single sound of it.
Are ear implants always this distorted?
I know its been a long time but i looked it up and apparently this kinds of implants are indeed this distorted but your audition might get better over time (or you get used to it I guess)
Riz should be 007
اللهم عافِني في بَدَني، اللهم عافِني في (سَمعي)، اللهم عافِني في بَصَري لا إله الا أنت
It's not on Prime Canada
Your internet is heavily censored like China's
It’s nothing interesting
Why is Riot playing the drums
Who even watches the Oscars anymore. This movie is amazing but I’m not going to watch the Oscars. I don’t need to see rich celebrities saying thank you and how much fun they had making a film. They did a job that they got paid to do. Just like everyone else in the world. The ratings for the Oscars last year were her Horrible.
I completely agree with you. I’d add that it’s also exceedingly gross to watch them thank each other and act as if what they did really means anything more than making a film - like it’s the most important job on earth. To my knowledge, doctors don’t do this. Firemen don’t do this. Soldiers don’t do this. Hell, I don’t even think authors do this. The level is self importance is shameful and gross. No thank you.
@@alexbaum2204 acting is only something a certain amount of people could do. Most people could be a fireman
A bit of Info ..... Always wear hearing protection. Your cochlea will be damaged beyond extent where there's no way of return.
Neuralink is changing that, the cochlea is bypassed and the sound enters directly through the auditory nerve to the brain
Im not gonna go through Nueralink @@Musikyx
Should have won
This better be a meme bc i taped out if meme by accident on this
😥
Rudimentary peni shirt 🤔🤔
It was well done but I wasn't thrilled with its anti-cochlear implant perspective.
Is it really anti-implant? Seems more like the community had a perspective incompatible with Ruben's, and Ruben's choice was made on mistaken assumptions
What’s an “Oscar”?
It’s an award given to those who lack respect for the general public and think they above the law.
I appreciate what this movie is trying to tell but I was slightly put off by the use of the term “metal.” I found no metal music in the movie
It's not about metal music itself. But about how implants sound. At the end of the movie, the church bells ring and that sound... It's a metal sound.
Durp.
Someone needs to make a parody of this scene 😂
This movie suffered from an extreme lack of metal. Where's the music? Where's the band? This guy was more worried about you losing his girlfriend then losing his ability to play music.
A lot of missed opportunities for good storytelling. I was not impressed
its two piece band. only him and his gf. modeled after a real life story / band.
With all of the nominations and the praising comments below, I’m sure this movie is good. But, having not watched the movie yet myself, I found this montage of clips incredibly boring, haha. Reeeeally slow and heavy, haha. Guess I’ve got to check out the whole thing now and redeem this movie in my mind.
It’s not a movie worth watching, boring at best and lacks substance.
It's a phenomenal movie, but it's very artsy. If you want to be entertained, it's probably not for you, but if you want to be emotionally moved, it's incredibly powerful and beautiful.
@@adamfulghum4475 why are you replying to every comment hating on this movie lmao
@@eviebreakspear6883 I’m not speaking for everyone, however, you do realize opinions vary from person to person? I expressed mine even if you disagree.
@@kimberlee440 I’m all about entertainment. Movies should flow without interruption and this one missed the mark. I think it was basic and lackluster.
Lmao. If six minutes of a two hour movie are “Oscar worthy” than it’s not Oscar worthy. Not like an Oscar means anything but still
Exactly.
"Deaf communities" are so fucked up man. My friend got hearing aids and they treated her like she never knew any of them. They all come off as cults
Not really, this movie was just okay
Just ok is a bit much. Straight garbage
I'm a musician, and I studied ASL in college. This movie is a neat premise, but poorly executed.
The acting in this film was fine but the story needed help. Ending sucked
You’re trippin. That ending was perfect. He finally accepted his reality and moved on
Stupid, depressing movie
I didn’t enjoy this at all the main character got on my nerves he was really annoying the entire time given the situation its understandable but just wasn’t my cup of tea that being said well acted
You really think I should believe him a drummer? The music was insulting to the Metal community. The tattoos were odd and obviously not created by someone who understands the genre. The acting was fine, whoever was in charge of the writing,etc.. totally has no artistic, cerebral or any connection to a artist. This could have been a much better film.
Yup, it was straight garbage. This movie sucked on so many areas I wouldn’t know where to begin.
That’s me type movie
Man people really watched the whole movie thinking it was about music?
I'm a musician and I still had a hard time staying awake through this. I've rarely finished a movie so boring.
Exactly. This movie was straight up garbage!
What are you implying? As a musician? How is that important as an audience?
It's a question of what you enjoy out of films. I'm a musician too and enjoyed it a lot, the acting mostly, it was very entertaining to watch but at the end, the film isn't even about music, there's barely any music in it, so being a musician has nothing to do with your enjoyment of it. If you don't find conversations and watching a person go through a wide range of emotions then of course this is not gonna be something you enjoy. It's objectively a great movie, you just don't find it's themes entertaining.
this movie isn't even about music bro lol being a musician has nothing to do with your enjoyment
You mustn't be into drama and more emotional movies, fair enough. Even when a drama film is well made enough to make me feel emotional, I used to wonder why I would want to watch something that makes me feel miserable. My opinion has changed over time and it might for you too, at least you gave it a chance. Can't fault somebody for their personal taste and opinions when it comes to art.
