Facing Power Crisis, China Backtracks on Unofficial Ban; Unloads Australian Coal Stranded at Ports

  • In 2020, Beijing declared an unofficial ban on coal imported from Australia. Little did Beijing know that its restriction on import of Australian coal could backfire. A year later, Beijing is struggling to combat massive power crunch stemming from coal shortage.
Despite the unofficial ban, China has now turned to Australian coal stranded at its ports. An estimated 1 million tonnes of Australian coal had stayed in bonded warehouses along China's coast. China is now reportedly unloading the vessels and releasing Australian coal.

This is the way China admitted it needs Australia, so China needs help after all, if that was not the case, they would have not bought that coal, and they would have held to what they said, but as usual, China can't hold it's word cause the Chinese word is meaningless, and with no value.

1,000,000 tons of coal sounds like a lot of coal and it is a lot, but the John Amos power plant in West Virginia stock piles 1,750,000 tons of coal. It burns 26,000 tons a day at full 2.9 GW power output. A unit coal train use to be 10,000 tons coal and about 1.1 miles long. Now they carry more. Those are short tones of 2,000 pounds. The coal in China is metric tonnes of 1000 kg or 2,200 pounds 10% more.

What needs to happen is that Australia finds new customers for their products, and the products are sold on the condition that they are not resold to China. It will backfire, no matter which way things are done. By cutting China's coal supply, that reduces the electricity, which then cripples their factories. That is a loss for all, but, CCP are not interested in win - win outcomes, from their actions to date.

India too is running out of coal. There could be severe power cuts in the coming weeks. Out of about 100 coal plants 63 have less than 3 days of coal left now and 17 have already run out! Areas in ladakh and J and K have already started seeing long power cuts. ( Source : Wion )

My Best Answer: Best way to stop and reverse climate change. Stop burning fossil fuels ASAP. Alternatively, Best way is to start mirror reflected and concentrated solar thermal power stations over large coastlines of India to produce electricity from steam. Then convert electricity into green hydrogen (when Sun is bright) that can be stored and transported across India. This is how, we can produce 24x7 solar energy. Also, solar energy can be stored as molten salt or sand and use it to produce steam when Sun is not bright or at night to produce steam and electricity. Unlimited and free sea water and sun can produce unlimited and cheapest fuel and electricity as India has biggest coastline. This is the best answer to climate change and also India can save 8 to 12 lac crores spent on import bill of oil and coal.

Ready stock of 100 million tons of coal ended a shortage problem in China, while India is facing a critical shortage of coal now. Will we be seeing blackouts and industry shutdowns all across India next week?

There Is No Shortage of Energy; There Is Shortage of Normalcy
Despite increased production of energy from renewable sources, and despite the slowdown in car manufacturing, oil prices are skyrocketing. Even though fewer power plants still burn coal, coal prices are skyrocketing, as well. Natural gas prices, too, are going through the roof, and energy demand seems to outpace supply in every country and in every form of energy. Have Earth’s energy sources dwindled so drastically in a matter of months? The answer is a resounding “No!” There is no shortage of energy; there is a serious shortage of normalcy in human relations. I hope the current crisis will put some sense into humanity’s insane consumption.
The energy crunch indicates that we are over consuming. We are producing too much, throwing the excess production to the trash, polluting the ground, the air, and the water, and then we are complaining that we do not have enough. It is about as sane as killing one’s parents and then pleading for the court’s mercy because I’ve recently been orphaned.
It is time we reconsider everything we produce-how we divide production, profits, and goods, which services are necessary and which are redundant, and most importantly, how we treat one another. The goal of this process should be clear to everyone: survival.
There is no ulterior motive, no attempt to dominate or deprive anyone of power or wealth. It is simply that reality is forcing us to take all of humanity and the entire planet into consideration. If we don’t, our entire civilization will collapse like a deck of cards.
Since we still do not understand it and insist on running things the way we have always been running them-through power games-I anticipate a very cold and gloomy winter for the northern hemisphere. The energy crunch will leave many in dark and cold houses; there will be no gas for cars, and renewable energy will not replace traditional sources since there will be little sun during the winter. I hope that at least, it will make us rethink our values. If it doesn’t, next summer will be even worse than the awful summer that just ended.
I know that many people are counting on the promise of renewable energy to solve the energy problems of humanity. I think they are mistaken. There is plenty of energy, far more than we really need. We could cut emissions by at least half tomorrow. But the more we have, the hungrier we become, so our thirst for energy will never be satiated, and we will never stop exploiting the planet or each other until we reeducate ourselves and start being humane toward each other.
We have been behaving like spoiled brats whose parents buy them whatever they want. Now, our parents have run out of money and our childhood is over. It is time for us to mature and conduct ourselves like responsible adults, caring for all of humanity the way a mother cares for her entire family. If we think like a family, we will achieve normalcy.

I do not think its a u-turn. Just imagine, if coal's cargo ships were on its journey to China, of course those coal have been paid for by Chinese importers?
If there is a u-turn, it would only to replace the shortages of *thermal* coal. Well, more coal to stash more money into scotty's arse. 😂 Love from Aussie miners in charge.
