The character of Laura is extremely important because lesbians have really been dragged through the proverbial mud the last several years, young gay women have been hesitant to use the label for themselves, most are unaware of the historical connection to ancient Greek poet Sappho and have never felt the pride in their own special identifier.
But then charming, chic, successful, and beautifully stunning Laura Peterson shows up and confidently and matter-of-factly calls herself lesbian on the show, creating a major shift in awareness and self- acceptance that transmits through our tv and laptop screens and we find that we have a true shero in our midst. Someone who confidently let's others know she is who she is, no apologies; she knows herself and her profession both forwards and backwards and is serene and content in her life. She is firm with her boundaries and offers wise words of counsel when dealing with higher ups and coworkers in the broadcast news game. No wonder everyone has fallen in love with Laura Peterson, who can resist? Bradley Jackson sure hasn't been able to and we don't blame her one bit.
