I’m not sure if Hal played to the arrangement on fills or if he used his imagination to provide his own. In my experience some arrangers want a specific fill and will write it in whilst others just write “fill” leaving the drummer to provide what he feels is most appropriate for the track. I don’t suppose anyone can answer
