You need to strike a balance between comfortable levels and adjusted levels. Humans have an ability to adapt to darkness, gaining very slight night vision after being in the dark for a few minutes... the update feels like we are partially blind, not in the dark 😂.
@Starkandco Now that you mention it... some aaa games do have dynamic brightness when going from dark to light areas and vice versa, but it might be too much for an indie studio... it'd take a lot of tweaking to get right, and if it goes wrong, it could make the game unplayable, like pitch-black voids and blinding lights.
polaroids are electronic, but they probably aren't counted as such in the game code because they don't use any electricity until you release the shutter, so ideally it wouldn't alert the ghost to your location if you held one while hiding unless you take a photo.

I learned a nice little thing about the lighter yesterday: When you hold it in your hand and the ghost blows out the flame, you get an EMF signal ON the lighter. And yes, I was able to take a photo by dropping it on the floor! Pretty cool! I think this only works for tier 2 or tier 3 in my case, but I don't know.
Firstly he could still know the ghost room and secondly it’s Insym! He could probably know what ghost it is by looking at its asshairs. (But your comment is still very good 👍🏿)
I believe they changed it now! I haven't gotten to that part in the video so apologies if he mentions this, but your breath starts to appear around amd under 7 degrees celsius, so even if you see your breath it doesn't guarantee freezing temps, they seem to have made it realistic now, just like real life!

if you are on windows for voice recognition, you need to actually go into your window's > settings> system> sound and make sure your window's input device is the mic you want. i was using text since i could never get the game to recognize my voice despite the fact i was able to still voice chat and it ended up being this setting. the game used my mic for voice chat but windows wasn't using any mic.

Polaroid cameras (tier camera) are still based on chemical processes rather than electronic. The first electronic/digital camera was invented in 1975. It was about the size of a toaster.

Since you have the board.... and the board, you can ask several small questions to both reduce your sanity, and proc some EMF readinga in the truck. The candle blowouts too. So if you get multiple candle blows, check the truck screen for easy emf5 checks
I was able to guess a Polter in Brownstone Highschool without even entering the location by looking at the EMF chart, I just opened the door and went back to the truck, suddenly it went up to 10 which the ghost should not hunt while I am outside and took me like 10 seconds to remember that it may have been the polter throw doing a lot of activity at the same time.
The devs messed up the look of their game with this update, pitch black darkness is stupid. You can literally go to your bathroom irl, turn off the light, close the door and light up a single match - and see how it lights up the entire room. While in phasmo, even with a oil powered lantern you cant see crap in the darkness. Realism aside, staring at a completely black screen for ten minutes is not the pinnacle of gameplay, for me at least. It should be dark, yes, but not pitch black like you are doing a no monitor challenge or something.
Every single ghost on this challenge gave me ghost writing, nearly every ghost gave me freezing temps, and only one ghost gave me UV. Guess I got lucky, but basically every single ghost came down to "is it fast on a hunt or no?" Loved the inclusion of the ouiji board for this challenge, because it lets you very carefully control your sanity drain. If the evidence comes down to "fast or not" you just ask whatever questions are needed to drop your sanity below 50 and listen to the hunt. If it comes down to early hunting / late hunting, drain your sanity just enough to test for it. I had a fast ghost hunt above 50% with ghost writing = guaranteed thaye.

Interesting take on "no light" challenges would be setting up no sanity pills, half the breaker limit for switches, max ghost events and ability use rate and once you reach zero sanity you immediately get killed similar to Hanged Man tarot card. Would make surviving more tense and regular practics far more risky.
This challenge wasn't hard, but in general I dont like it when the challenge limits evidence items and breaks the breaker and/or gives you 0 sanity to start with. With the breaker being broken it makes the jinn and mare virtually indistinguishable. With no sanity, and because they probably removed sanity pills, you can't test hunt thresholds. So with no sanity and a broken breaker a lot of ghosts just blend together.
Depends on other bits too. We just had one with zero sanity but you could monkey paw yourself to 50% for a little bit to test out the low sanity hunting ghosts.
Grace is probably just that long because of amateur? Can imagine new players getting confused easily about what's happening and needing a bit longer to process where the ghost is, and where to hide before they can learn to do it faster and move up in difficulty
New players usually just crouch into a corner in the ghost room with their flashlight on, and die, lol. so i dont think the grace period saves them. atleast the tutorial is better now
got really lucky on this challenge with my friends yesterday, immediate 6-fingered print after the ghost touched a door, and luckily it wasnt a sneaky mimic!
I find that the Jinn on this challenge can be figured out by using the Activity screen. Same with the Shade. If the Jinn hasn't been changed, then you will see a large decrease in Activity when you are not in the room. Shade you'll see a small spike in activity while you not in the room.
got a yurei, it closed the fornt door like 5 times and at firs I was so confused about why did the door close if i wasn't even in the house, but then i fugured it out😂
I did this challenge this week and got it right once. The most useful items were the glow stick for seeing and crucifix, and my sanity percentage when it burned the first crucifix helped me narrow it down..
Insym was correct in saying that without cursed possessions this would have been one of the most frustrating challenges of all time. I know that because that's how I did this challenge lol
I think the worst part of doing this without a cursed possession would be just sitting around waiting for your sanity to drain in order to hear a hunt. Sitting in a dark corner for 5-10 minutes and your sanity has only gone down a few points is rough.

In the downtime while you waited for hunts, you could just go about trying to test for evidences, and go back to the van to check for EMF5. I had Banshee, Yurei and Goryo ; Goryo was the only tricky one since the Banshee always knew where i was straight away ( played as a DUO) ; the Yurei used the Door 24/7 and yeah....Goryo was the only Struggle here xD
This challenge was fun for me I got a yurei in the first game and was lucky enough for it to do it's ability right away, second round was deo which I figured with a hunt and last game was a goryo which was kinda obvious cuz it wasn't roaming at all the whole time
When I tried the challenge yesterday my first ghost was a Raiju literally impossible without ruling everything out first. Luckily my second was an onryo who showed himself immediately.
T1 photocam isn't electronic until you press the button, before then it's just a useless box. T2 and T3 have an active display so they are always electronic.
I've been having lots of mic issues since the update. Last night my nephew and I played a few rounds and my in game proximity chat works but the radio, Ouija board, and spirt box can't hear me. It is really frustrating and breaks the immersion.
The new lighting really fucked over vr, whitened surfaces are drastically bright, and the darkness is so pure that the tier 2 flashlight barely lights up the floor
I failed so many times on this that I managed to see a patter, but I didn't exclusively test it so I might be wrong. Anyway, all the ghosts I encountered had at least 1 of the evidence you could find (Thermo, UV, or Writing) and most of them had 2 of them. This means that I never found any ghost that didn't have at least ONE of those evidences. Again, I havn't gone deep testing this, but over the course of like 10-15 games (cause I'm bad, mkay? :D) I noticed the pattern when I got a lot of Demon, Myling, Wraith and Hantu.
I thought you can only trigger curse hunts when using the ouija board and saying hide and seek but why did Insym triggered a cursed hunt using an ouija board just by saying "Where are you" in 17:25 ? can any body explain please. Thanks.
Different questions drain different amounts of sanity. If you try to use the board and ask a question that would reduce your sanity below 0, the board breaks and starts a cursed hunt. "Where are you" drains 50 sanity each time you ask.
What Keith said but this isn't limited to the ouija board. If you try the mirror or the music box or the voodoo doll without the proper level of sanity to do it you will break the item and start a cursed hunt as well just like Insym did here with the ouija board.
I don't think the game is having trouble recognizing the microphone, but I think it's a bug that I noticed where all of the voice-activated items are INSANELY delayed on reading your voice. A workaround I noticed for this problem is if you are using push to talk you need to speak: release your PTT button, and then press your PTT button again. Even without saying anything it will instantly read your last voice input. I have to do this for the spirit box, monkey paw, and oujia board right now.
For some reason (for me at least) Windows voice recognition works better than Vosk for single player, but Vosk works better than Windows for multiplayer. I really don't get why that would be the case but it is. I can sit on the spirit box all day long on single player (Vosk) and not get the "ghost heard the question" lights turn on at all, but the moment I switch to Windows I immediately get feedback that the ghost heard the question. And when I go into lobbies with Vosk, I have no problem getting spirit box feedback.
@@-Keith- I've noticed this as well. It used to all work fine before the progression update so hopefully they can fix it eventually. For now I'm stuck sounding weird with the spirit box.
Did this weekly and I got Thaye, Deo (super lucky with these 2) and a Mare! At first I'm not sure it was intended for the ghost room to be always at the entrance cus every time i stepped in, stuffs always getting thrown in Kitchen, Dining and Foyer but then when I helped my friends, it's not 😂 so I guess I was pretty lucky with ghost rooms lol
While I agree with your take on Twnteraction/EMF 5 off the board you are wrong on the Yurei special door ability. I've yet to see a ghost fully shut the door in the same way that the Yurei does it when it is doing it's special ability. My first success was much like your Hantu one. Although I got two of the evidence prior to going into the truck to look for EMF 5. Didn't get EMF 5 but did get Twinteraction. Since I had already nixed that as a possible ghost from the evidence collected that left the Mimic playing The Twins. Which it was.
It was to dark to feel comfortable, so I put a lot candles for prepare for Hunt, but ghost keep blow them out so we keep them light up, figure out its Onryo, but at the time he hunt I run out of matches and die once with smudge stick that I cant use ;D 1 Wraith(thx for salt) 2xOnryo ;D
One of the most frustrating combinations I had on this challenge was a ghost that gave no uv, no ghost writing, and no freezing temperatures. We could rule out wraith because it stepped in salt, and were comfortable ruling out uv and freezing, but with the ghost writing there's always that question of "is the evidence for-sure not ghost writing, or is the ghost just not writing in the book"? I died fairly early in the match so I was mostly tasked with repeatedly checking to see if the ghost wrote in the book. We eventually were confident that it was either a yokai or a raiju, but without any electronics it was difficult for my remaining teammate to properly gauge distance to do an accurate yokai test. This challenge was overall very challenging and fun, but some rounds were super time consuming and difficult. (Edited because I accidentally typed never stepped in salt at first lol)
It's the tier 3 writing books so they're extremely effective at getting the writing. When you place them down you can see the range for each book, so you space them apart to maximize the area that they cover rather than putting them close together. I had writing before any other evidence every single time as soon as I found the ghost room, usually within seconds of placing the book. A good spot to yokai test is the hiding spot in the living room behind the rubber containers, since the ghost rarely hunts that far into the sofa area but often walks past it.
Like Keith said if you had those books in what you know for a fact is the ghost room and it isn't writing in them and they have been in the room a long time that is a fairly safe bet at tier 3 ghost writing book. Tier 1 would be a different story.
I find that the hiding spot in the living room is bugged, the ghost room is in dining room, but the ghost decided to hunt in the hiding I was in. This happened twice, once as a Moroi, and a second time as a Raith, and it was only like the second hunt after doing ghost events. It never changed ghost rooms.
What Poglin said for the Wraith ability but also the ghost isn't limited to starting hunts in it's room. You just got super unlucky on the Moroi. If you want to verify your hiding spot outside of the ghost room is safe to chill in for a hunt you'd best crucifix it. So no that spot isn't bugged.
Insym, for the photo cam not being provided as you said in the beginning of the video, photo cam are actually electronics because when I held them in hand, ghosts knew my location. Just want to get that clear.
You hold “F” like your going you’re going to place something. And if you’re close to the ground or a table it’ll show a ‘ghost’ if the crucifix and it’s range!
Strength of light is fine. The spread of light is ass. Like Tanglewood, you could have the light on in living room, and go into dark dining room and not see the light from living room at all. Which would not happen at all. Especially in almost complete darkness. That light would spread like crazy
I did this challenge yesterday one time and we were so unlucky because we got a Raiju and we couldn't get any evidence or test if it was a Raiju because no electrical equipment was available ._.
Wait how was that a Hantu since the thermo was in the garage for a long time and it wasn't dropping lower that 0 Degrees ? Is the tier 1 thermo not 100% accurate ?
The EMF chart could get a whole video. It shows the accumulation of all EMF readings in the house, but some activities will randomly lose one or two from their EMF value. But if two things happen at the same time, they get added together (I.e. a 2 and 3 could add up to five), unless it’s a twin where they show both lines separately. So if you sit in the van and see a 4 or 5, it is either two things happening at once, or a 2-3 showing a 5, since a legit 4 shouldn’t be possible with no people in the house. Honestly if you have a van tech teammate, the board is pretty nutty and can show more than just whether it’s EMF 5.
@@Stubbies2003 I know about this so that's why I was thinking maybe it stacked due to a bug or something. Over a 15 minute game I lost about 5 sanity with only two glowsticks, and three or so candles.
I had an issue with this challenge. I CANT seee ANYTHING during this challenge. Like, the glowsticks are the only source of light and everything else is just pure darkness.

They added the interaction photo ability to all of the fire lights too when the ghost blows them out.

Realism aside, staring at a completely black screen for ten minutes is not the pinnacle of gameplay, for me at least. It should be dark, yes, but not pitch black like you are doing a no monitor challenge or something.

it wouldve been nice to have the tier 3 lantern at least. you can see pretty well with that.
Friends and I did this challenge. Literally got yokai (dots, spirit box, ghost orbs), yokai, and raiju as our ghosts. Game was just mocking us.

an idea I have for what they could do is to add some "minimal" amount of light to fully dark areas that isn't affected by the brightness setting.
Luckily my monitor has a shadow control option, I can eliminate the darkness.

You should give VR at least one go in the new update I literally just played a game in VR and it was scared the absolute shit out of me
T1 photocam isn't electronic until you press the button, before then it's just a useless box. T2 and T3 have an active display so they are always electronic.
Why was the Hantu so slow if the breaker was off and no warmth (candles) was around?
Sunrise weather type has an ambient temperature from 10-18 degrees. So all the rooms will be warm unless the ghost spends a lot of time in that room.
although the best light source would definitely be Glowstick, place all 4 candles on dining table, very very helpful.
The best lightsource for me is the night vision goggles
I've been having lots of mic issues since the update. Last night my nephew and I played a few rounds and my in game proximity chat works but the radio, Ouija board, and spirt box can't hear me. It is really frustrating and breaks the immersion.
The new lighting really fucked over vr, whitened surfaces are drastically bright, and the darkness is so pure that the tier 2 flashlight barely lights up the floor
I failed so many times on this that I managed to see a patter, but I didn't exclusively test it so I might be wrong. Anyway, all the ghosts I encountered had at least 1 of the evidence you could find (Thermo, UV, or Writing) and most of them had 2 of them. This means that I never found any ghost that didn't have at least ONE of those evidences.
Again, I havn't gone deep testing this, but over the course of like 10-15 games (cause I'm bad, mkay? :D) I noticed the pattern when I got a lot of Demon, Myling, Wraith and Hantu.
I had two yokai ;(

@@Beviedev In your defense, ruling out all 3 evidence gives you wraith yokai and raiju, which is actually really easy to determine between.
I had gotten all 3 ghosts that get 0 evidence. raiju, yokai, and wraith. 3 of my 5 that i ran.

I thought you can only trigger curse hunts when using the ouija board and saying hide and seek but why did Insym triggered a cursed hunt using an ouija board just by saying "Where are you" in 17:25 ? can any body explain please. Thanks.
Different questions drain different amounts of sanity. If you try to use the board and ask a question that would reduce your sanity below 0, the board breaks and starts a cursed hunt. "Where are you" drains 50 sanity each time you ask.
What Keith said but this isn't limited to the ouija board. If you try the mirror or the music box or the voodoo doll without the proper level of sanity to do it you will break the item and start a cursed hunt as well just like Insym did here with the ouija board.
I don't think the game is having trouble recognizing the microphone, but I think it's a bug that I noticed where all of the voice-activated items are INSANELY delayed on reading your voice. A workaround I noticed for this problem is if you are using push to talk you need to speak: release your PTT button, and then press your PTT button again. Even without saying anything it will instantly read your last voice input. I have to do this for the spirit box, monkey paw, and oujia board right now.
For some reason (for me at least) Windows voice recognition works better than Vosk for single player, but Vosk works better than Windows for multiplayer. I really don't get why that would be the case but it is. I can sit on the spirit box all day long on single player (Vosk) and not get the "ghost heard the question" lights turn on at all, but the moment I switch to Windows I immediately get feedback that the ghost heard the question. And when I go into lobbies with Vosk, I have no problem getting spirit box feedback.
@@-Keith- I've noticed this as well. It used to all work fine before the progression update so hopefully they can fix it eventually. For now I'm stuck sounding weird with the spirit box.
yeah it immediately dropped my sanity to 45% after using the board, and all the hunts are super short. Hate it. I got Wraith, Mimic, and Banshee
Back in the day if you found a Ouija Board and you didnt get a Response it would remove the Setup Timer
Did this weekly and I got Thaye, Deo (super lucky with these 2) and a Mare! At first I'm not sure it was intended for the ghost room to be always at the entrance cus every time i stepped in, stuffs always getting thrown in Kitchen, Dining and Foyer but then when I helped my friends, it's not 😂 so I guess I was pretty lucky with ghost rooms lol
While I agree with your take on Twnteraction/EMF 5 off the board you are wrong on the Yurei special door ability. I've yet to see a ghost fully shut the door in the same way that the Yurei does it when it is doing it's special ability.
My first success was much like your Hantu one. Although I got two of the evidence prior to going into the truck to look for EMF 5. Didn't get EMF 5 but did get Twinteraction. Since I had already nixed that as a possible ghost from the evidence collected that left the Mimic playing The Twins. Which it was.
It was to dark to feel comfortable, so I put a lot candles for prepare for Hunt, but ghost keep blow them out so we keep them light up, figure out its Onryo, but at the time he hunt I run out of matches and die once with smudge stick that I cant use ;D

One of the most frustrating combinations I had on this challenge was a ghost that gave no uv, no ghost writing, and no freezing temperatures. We could rule out wraith because it stepped in salt, and were comfortable ruling out uv and freezing, but with the ghost writing there's always that question of "is the evidence for-sure not ghost writing, or is the ghost just not writing in the book"?
I died fairly early in the match so I was mostly tasked with repeatedly checking to see if the ghost wrote in the book. We eventually were confident that it was either a yokai or a raiju, but without any electronics it was difficult for my remaining teammate to properly gauge distance to do an accurate yokai test.
This challenge was overall very challenging and fun, but some rounds were super time consuming and difficult.

It's the tier 3 writing books so they're extremely effective at getting the writing. When you place them down you can see the range for each book, so you space them apart to maximize the area that they cover rather than putting them close together. I had writing before any other evidence every single time as soon as I found the ghost room, usually within seconds of placing the book.
A good spot to yokai test is the hiding spot in the living room behind the rubber containers, since the ghost rarely hunts that far into the sofa area but often walks past it.
Like Keith said if you had those books in what you know for a fact is the ghost room and it isn't writing in them and they have been in the room a long time that is a fairly safe bet at tier 3 ghost writing book. Tier 1 would be a different story.
I find that the hiding spot in the living room is bugged, the ghost room is in dining room, but the ghost decided to hunt in the hiding I was in. This happened twice, once as a Moroi, and a second time as a Raith, and it was only like the second hunt after doing ghost events. It never changed ghost rooms.
Wraiths have an ability to teleport to the player so that’s probably what happened
What Poglin said for the Wraith ability but also the ghost isn't limited to starting hunts in it's room. You just got super unlucky on the Moroi. If you want to verify your hiding spot outside of the ghost room is safe to chill in for a hunt you'd best crucifix it. So no that spot isn't bugged.
It ended up being a lot easier than I first expected.

Insym, for the photo cam not being provided as you said in the beginning of the video, photo cam are actually electronics because when I held them in hand, ghosts knew my location. Just want to get that clear.
That is not true for the tier 1 photo cam which is what Insym was talking about here.

You hold “F” like your going you’re going to place something. And if you’re close to the ground or a table it’ll show a ‘ghost’ if the crucifix and it’s range!

Strength of light is fine. The spread of light is ass. Like Tanglewood, you could have the light on in living room, and go into dark dining room and not see the light from living room at all. Which would not happen at all. Especially in almost complete darkness. That light would spread like crazy
Photocams are all electronic. Tier 1 has Automatic dispensor. Flash.

I did this challenge yesterday one time and we were so unlucky because we got a Raiju and we couldn't get any evidence or test if it was a Raiju because no electrical equipment was available ._.

Good God man. By that "logic" they shouldn't have added the tier 2 candles as that candelabra is almost certainly made of metal.

The EMF chart could get a whole video. It shows the accumulation of all EMF readings in the house, but some activities will randomly lose one or two from their EMF value. But if two things happen at the same time, they get added together (I.e. a 2 and 3 could add up to five), unless it’s a twin where they show both lines separately. So if you sit in the van and see a 4 or 5, it is either two things happening at once, or a 2-3 showing a 5, since a legit 4 shouldn’t be possible with no people in the house.
Honestly if you have a van tech teammate, the board is pretty nutty and can show more than just whether it’s EMF 5.
When I did this challenge I had candles and the glow sticks and I lost no sanity as if the lights were on, that seems to op; is this a bug or no?
The tier 2 candle does slow down the sanity drain but it does not stop it. If you got no sanity drain at all that was a bug.
@@Stubbies2003 I know about this so that's why I was thinking maybe it stacked due to a bug or something. Over a 15 minute game I lost about 5 sanity with only two glowsticks, and three or so candles.
I had an issue with this challenge. I CANT seee ANYTHING during this challenge. Like, the glowsticks are the only source of light and everything else is just pure darkness.
I hate when they fk up the breaker like what am i suppose to do when i can't see shit. It's like forcing me to 'Guess n Go'. What's the point of those challenges when you don't learn much cause you just see nothing. AND IT HURT MY EYES!
