I had a chance to watch Gundecha Brothers perform live while I was doing my UG studies at BHU, Varanasi. They performed this. I was both blown and bewildered by the performance. There is a procession every March or so - called Drupad Mela at the Ghats of Banaras. The entry is free and you get to see the raw talent of these Hindustani Maestros. :) :)
This is the highest form of Indian Classical music...the music from heaven itself...absolute bliss for ears and soul..that too from the voices of Pt. Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha..But really, the cameraman is a crazy fellow!! God knows what he was having in his mind !
I am regular Uttar Hindustani classical listener. But since I tried to listen Honorable Gundecha Bhandhu's Drupad & Dhamar gayaki, I got mad. This is our real music which was played since thousands of years. So it pure and virgin. We must have to learn and listen it. New generation must learn and participate. This music gives us calm and joy at the same time.
+Bhavika Shrivastava Sometimes I think that Ustad Niyamat Khan Sadarang and Adarang have done more harm than good by inventing Bada Khayal! I love Dhrupad more than anything! theopalmoon.wordpress.com/2016/01/12/revenge/
born and raised in South India and father had averse taste for North Indian musicians due to which we were banned listening to anything hindusthani classical but only carnatic...i don't blame my parents but now all notions of mind have disappeared in no time.. ...dhrupadh is so sweet ..thank you
I agree with your father about 100 years ago Carnatic musicians were singing all night on one or two raga. Hindustani music is not as evolved as the other ststem which had a mix of persian Music.Even Dhrupad which north Indians claim antquity is only revived music. What is more Lacks variety raags and relies a extreeme slow tempo in the mistaken belief that there is perfect sur, Sur in Indian Music is taken from nature such as notes are named after animals and birds of nature. Saranga deva states that 22 shrutis sound good when sung in combination and this is retained by carnatic music only. North Indian music has only retained 12 shruthis. and Has let go of Vivadhi notes and Raags. Gamaks have also been abridged There were 18 different gamaks ony carnatic retains it, Though they have stopped some including in the basic. Hindusthani is very much restricted to glides and brigha format. If you want to see the ocean of Indian music you still have to carnatic. Many a Hindustani Musicians stray from Classcism form as there are no rigid coding nor sampradaya hence you have thinds like miyan ki thodi. I am not decring the beauty of Hindusthani music only the tall claims made by them which is mixed with persian and Turkish music. You would see South Indian Pandit effort less take to Hindusthaani but you never find nothern musicians are unable to cross. It is obvious that your father was more knowlegeable on music. Carnatic Music has evolved and Chennai has be tagged as the Indian city for Music from Unesco.
S.K. Mani I agree with you but one thing, nada comprise "good sound". 22 shrutis are chosen from Nada and 12 swaras from shrutis. The Indian classical music indirectly has them
What an AMAZING rendition .. !! On a related note - lets please be polite in our conversation. The pursuit of art and esthetics should enable us to become more graceful and refined. I would request the owner of the post to remove some of the highly unpleasant comments that have been made by some viewers.
Too many videos on RUclips are wrongly labeling Dhrupad as "bhajan". The former is one of the purest forms of Indian classical music while the latter is almost the pop-music equivalent of religious/devotional music. Please, please ... stop confusing one with the other. You may not realize it, but this is a VERY serious blunder.
So this is Dhrupad? I ask as somebody who knows nothing about Indian music. I heard these chaps on a radio programme in England and have come looking for more. Could you point me to some sort of primer on Indian music, not much, just a page long say, to give me some sort of framework for exploring further, this is beautiful.
@@steviebudden3397 Yes, this is Dhrupad. I am not qualified to write a primer, or even recognize the best primer out there. But ... I think the Wikipedia page for Dhrupad is actually surprisingly good. The section "Family and Style" also lists some of the best known names. Many of those names have some stuff uploaded by users on RUclips. Hope you enjoy the exploration :)
Heheh the cameraman was in love I guess... And I wouldn't disagree, she is lovely. But our main interest here is in the music of the maestros! Such splendid composition! 🕉️
The rendering of the Pandits are always in jugalbandi. Why can't you show both of them & focus major on them. The remarks of observers should be treated as a guideline by cameramen & editors.
This is not a "bhajan" (not beyond the devotional aspect of the lyrics). This is a fast dhrupad in raga Adana, in sultaal. The junior dagar brothers have greatly popularized this composition and have rendered it best.
I am amazed that senior students of Bade Ustad and Chhote Ustad pay so little attention to the tanpura and use these silly boxes on stage. That is not the only reason why they fail to impress or move me.
If truly name of Mahadev is recited by Dhrupad Gayan, no evil forces could ever dare to enter. Why make it just a pseudo show by bringing ill fame to the pure tradition of India in being caught in sexual abuse case abroad? Shame to your Omkar Gayan! Have some dignity at least as a true Dhrupad Singet, you have enormous talent, dont misuse n misutilise it. The whole world observes.

Dhrupad doesn't really have a region. It was popular througout India. It is older than carnatic and hindustani.

Bhajan is not a form of music, Yes it is a Dhrupad but as per the lyrics, it is devotional thus called as Bhajan
