    Such a tough matchup for Daniil. Crowd was as loud as ever in that fourth set, supporting Nick 🇦🇺

    Thank you for saving this. It's wonderful! ❤I've finally seen Daniil serious and concentrated during all the match, and not arguing with someone (Kyrgios took care of this part 😆)

    I remember watching this and thinking this could be a different season for Nick. Was high level and had chances throughout but also I could just tell something slightly different about his mentality. Then right away he won the doubles at AO, which unbelievably helped his confidence and singles season no doubt, but I wasn't surprised as much after seeing this performance. Great fight by Nick to make it four sets, and if he bring this energy and gets a decent draw next year unlike here, with the crowd behind him, could make for an interesting watch and a threat. That said he'll have to go in confident and able to handle the pressure, his lack of leadups worries me. Still could be an interesting name to watch. For tennis' sake hope he is.
    And medvedev plays amazing in Australia, obviously one of the biggest threats for the title and my pick to take it actually. Hopefully he can avenge his loss last year but ofc Novak is gonna be the big name that has all to lose, in a way it's field versus him at the AO. And I'm sure if Novak is threatened and doesn't go all the way, Meddy will want to not have to be the one who has to try to beat him and take him out. Not to say he's incapable. Anyways this was a great match and both are gonna be VERY interesting to watch at this year's event.

      I didn’t have the highest hopes for Nick even after this match, but was happy to be wrong. It’s just that he’s always given contenders trouble. He pushed Thiem to 5 sets, made Nadal struggle a couple times as well in recent years. He was just getting unlucky draws in general. I’m glad to see him improve his seeding and get better results.
      Medvedev was amazing in AO2022. I hope we get to see him at that level again soon. I think it’s fair to say the loss to Nadal shook his confidence. I think right now if this rematch happened between Medvedev and Kyrgios, I’d favor Kyrgios.
      Djokovic is the heavy favorite right now. The only reason to believe otherwise is if you’re not convinced about his health or his performance against Korda although I think Korda played really well besides some clutch points.

    • @AnthonyHirsch
      @AnthonyHirsch Год назад

      @@SJ-di5zu to me something about this performance just struck me differently. I felt a genuine belief and care from him and his level was high. But Medvedev was just too much anyways. Didn't matter. Medvedev is simply insane in Australia. I would favor Meddy even in '23 I think even tho Nick has upped his game, has the home crowd, and has the edge now in their H2H and knows how to play him. I just think Medvedev at the Australian Open is really too good. Maybe most underrated level for a specific player at a specific slam rn. I think of him remarkably high in AO, very hard to put away, even when FAA played out of his MIND last year at the AO easily one of the performances of the year and went up two sets he couldn't be put away. Dare I say I think of medvedev even higher here in AUS than I think of him in America at the USO. His game is just so well suited to the courts- just hope the crowd doesn't bother him too much, or at least it can motivate him if they are an issue, as we've seen before. But all that is part of why I have him winning the AO (I've had that as my prediction since pre Wimby last year when I said Novak for Wimbledon, Alcaraz for US Open, Medvedev for AO '23, Alcaraz for FO '23. Somehow so far I am half right even tho Novak for Wimby was pretty much a shoe in if we're honest.) But I think Medvedev really will be EXTREMELY motivated in Australia and like I said I rate him and his level there very highly.
      Don't get me wrong I agree Novak is overwhelming favorite just by odds, I mean it's hard to imagine the guy not reaching the semis at least actually virtually impossible to picture even tho it is possible, guys like Felix Sinner Kyrgios Kecmanovic Berrettini Fritz among others could test him before then, but he should make semis. And then you take the stat that Novak is 9-0 not just in semifinals but winning the AO after reaching the semis. Novak is MASSIVE favorite and incredibly strong rn mentally and very confident and probably even more motivated than Medvedev, also on a basis largely of vengeance lol I guess u can say in a way.
      But I'm taking Medvedev cause tbh yes I am a little hesitant on Djokovic's physical position rn though I think he's in great shape just don't think he is really what he was going in 2021, 2020, 2019 for example (and in the last two editions he played he was very much tested- not in the final of '21 but Zverev and Fritz gave him tests and then '20 Thiem I think many have forgotten VERY nearly took him out.) So I really don't think he's unbeatable. It's well in my imagination for a guy like FAA or Medvedev to take him out there especially if physically he isn't 100% or even like he was when he was 30, 31 for example.
