Where I am from, there is a saying for the look of fear, despair and worry pictured in this scene 2:53, when such fear grabs you, we say "Presjeklo te", meaning "It cut straight through you". The reason this scene is one of my favorites is that Ragnar doesn't care if his son fails to prove himself, he doesn't care if he comes back defeated or if he doesn't leave in the first place. He loves his son, and like any other parent, he wants him to live. He is his son, and as a father, he would run with such an injury to bring Bjorn back if it meant saving his life. All of that can be clearly seen when he immediately looks back as Auslaug tells him he may never see Bjorn again. Love this scene. It really signifies his love for his sons.
@popo1310023 maybe physically stronger but he wasn’t a better fighter and he wasn’t half as wise. Ragnar was the best fighter till he got injured he even beat Rollo‘s ass for lagertha’s hand in marriage. That’s why Rollo couldn’t beat Ragnar even when he was drugged out and injured.

19:20 Bjorn can take on and kill this super dangerous hunter and a grizzly bear, but is easily taken by a cripple (Ivar) in battle? I find this hard to believe.
@@Bobunkin Unless Ivar is throwing a knife or axe at someone, sorry he's in no position to take anyone by surprise. He is a cripple and you can see him crawling from miles away very slowly. So you gotta ask yourself a question, could Ivar kill the Beserker or the grizzly bear.. no way in hell.
Ragnar is no dummy when it comes to his sons. "I think youre making another foolish decision" and"prove me wrong" both visibly pissed off bjorn, he hates that his father doesnt believe he can survive, mainly because bjorn himself doesnt fully believe he can, hes having doubt, and his father not believing in him either stings. But ragnar does believe in him, he knows bjorn is capable of it, but its all up to bjorn. He knew bjorn was gonna deal with the toughest fights of his life, wether its wild animals, other people, starvation, freezing to death. Ragnar said these things on purpose to fuel bjorn, so that when he was at his breaking point in one of these fights, hell remember what his father said, and wanna prove him wrong. Ragnar wanted to givebjorn every possible chance to survive, but ragnar was scared and knew his son might die
I think between 1:18-1:40 Ragnar felt proud of Bjorn. Because he believes Bjorn finally found himself and doesn’t need his father’s help or name to find out who he is or make a name for himself. Because as some of us history nerds know, Bjorn became more famous than Ragnar.
As a north dweller myself, I love these scenes. The only part that slightly irks me (and I know its for TV) is the lack of face coverings in that cold and blowing snow. If you don't want to lose your extremities or have them all frostbitten and fucked up, you will cover yourself up.

15:39 the moment Bjorn became stronger than his own father.
And Ragnar knows.

Ragnar looks like Odin and Bjorn like Thor
Facts and Ivar would be like Loki
Lol I love how the berserker grunts dismissively
At 15:40, Bjorn literally becomes the man Ragnar has always dreamed he'd be: Stronger and more powerful than even Ragnar was ever.
Bjorn Ironside was my favorite character. He became stronger than Ragnar.
yeah, all muscle, no brains, a kind heart tho you could give him that
I love how he fish hooks the berserker
Bjon > bear
The bear fight was dumb as hell...
Just cos you couldn’t beat one

Bear of steel in my opinion
bad song with that Bear..
😂
Kinda over the top the dude he killed was mute
The bear fight was so silly. He had a small axe and he wins? That thing in reality would have eaten him no problemo!
It's a Nordic brown bear. They hibernate during winter.
Don't forget about the little knife. It played a big part in the bears downfall
Actually. No
why is Ragnar blaming Aslaug?
