  • I got my hands on a FREE one owner 1967 Eska outboard motor with a 5 hp Tecumseh 2 cycle engine. It has been sitting in a garage since 1980 and has not be started in 41 years... can we get it to run?

Definitely would like a video on the old paperwork! I have a 90 xj that had all of the papers with the work done to it with vintage dealer brochures

I find I have better luck with these old engines if I wear my Bears gear while working...

I think the main jet breaking is this motors way of saying it wants a little TLC. I think it's a beautiful little motor!

Haha... probably! I got lucky and found another carb super cheap to take a jet form. Part two should be up soon

Nice to see another old outboard! I just got a 1948 Sears outboard going, mine was an "elgin" brand, but a similar motor. I don't think your unit has a water pump, the fins on the power head look like those of an air cooled unit. A lot of outboards from the 50's-70's are basically the same units using the same parts sold under different brands, I'm sure you'll have no issues finding a carb for it.

Thanks for the info bus! I believe this one has water cooled exhaust only. I havent taken the lower unit apart yet, but I believe some water circulates around there and the block and head are just air cooled. Stay tuned for part two and we will figure it out. I would love to see that '48! Must be super cool styling

I have been wanting to do one of the point to electronic conversions on one of my father in laws old tractors but I don't have money to spend on someone else's stuff just for fun. But it looked super easy and would be nice.

I have never done it either, but would like to. I think it is easiest on Briggs & Stratton engines

24:1 fuel ratio and don’t use TCW3…use regular 2stroke oil for air cooled engines

I love outboard motors. Probably cause I love boats, that would make sense

Same! My first experiences with engines was on outboards. Before the jeeps and quads and go karts it was boats

When you set the points gap... did you turn the cam until the arrow aligns with the arm on the breaker points?

Keep using the drill to start it spray some starter fluid in it blow through the tank it will start to pop and if it starts bad duckbill pretty cheap carb rebuild on eBay I'm working on one right now just picked it up yesterday got her going but I have to get a rebuild then I noticed my water pickup wasn't working so I had to order a new impeller I wish I would have took it apart first because I think it tore it up from being so old I would have put brake fluid on it and let it sit for a while to let it soften then put it back together use a string on the tube to line up the pipe to go back into the pump I found a part list online for them so you can find parts easier that has part numbers fuel spark compression same old sit only thing I did different I directly put two-stroke oil in the cylinder spark plug hole Little rich on the mix I ran it for about 20 seconds and shuttered it down let it sit started out for another 20 seconds five or six times to let the oil code everything inside then I let her singKeep using the drill to start it spray some starter fluid in it blow through the tank it will start to pop and if it starts bad duckbill pretty cheap carb rebuild on eBay I'm working on one right now just picked it up yesterday got her going but I have to get a rebuild then I noticed my water pickup wasn't working so I had to order a new impeller I wish I would have took it apart first because I think it tore it up from being so old I would have put brake fluid on it and let it sit for a while to let it soften then put it back together use a string on the tube to line up the pipe to go back into the pump I found a part list online for them so you can find parts easier that has part numbers fuel spark compression same old sit only thing I did different I directly put two-stroke oil in the cylinder spark plug hole Little rich on the mix I ran it for about 20 seconds and shuttered it down let it sit started out for another 20 seconds five or six times to let the oil code everything inside then I let her sing searspartsdirect.com
