This is a very interesting topic which I have thought about myself for some time... we know about the evolution of organisms, thoughts and ideas, cultures, religion itself - and similarly god as a concept has gone through many transformations...
I find the way a sort of commerce seemed to have existed between cultures about their concept of god(s) very intriguing. God would get wholesale adopted, just fused, or only have their attributes borrowed...

Archaeological evidences indicate the divinity originated as human innocence and ignorence about natural calamities and phenomenon and then evolved through various civilizations to get the current landscape. Man is creater of gods and he empowered them. Human is god of all god's.
