PULSAR NS 200 SPROCKET IN MY TVS APACHE RTR 200 MORE TOP SPEED CHAIN SPROCKET CALCULATION

  • Can we install 14T sprocket from Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 in TVS Apache RTR 200 for more top speed? How to install chain sprocket for better top speed? Modification to improve performance with altering sprocket teeth? Chain sprocket calculation for final drive ratio.
TVS Apache RTR 200 gets 13T sprocket front sprocket and 45T rear sprocket with chain drive. A small change in number of sprocket teeth can be made to improve the acceleration or to reduce the cruising RPM. Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 uses a 14T front sprocket which should result in better cruising speed in the Apache RTR 200. Both the chain sprocket in Pulsar NS 200 and Apache RTR 200 uses same pitch so they can be interchanged but when I tried to replace the front 13T sprocket on the Apache RTR 200 with 14T sprocket of Pulsar NS 200 and I faced some serious issues which is shown in this video. This video also explains the calculation with sprockets and how changing the number of sprocket teeths effect the top speed and acceleration.

Hi, i changed my RTR160 4v front sprocket from 13 teeth to 14 teeth. The 14 teeth sprocket was a spare part of RTR180. In my case i had lot of gap and clearance to fit that, because RTR160 4v don't have that metal curvy plate and have smaller 13 teeth sprocket. I compared RPM and Speed of stock and 14teeth sprocket. As you said, 13teeth sprocket gave a punchier pull and more acceleration. But In 14teeth the rider become linear a bit and acceleration reduced and speed increased a bit.
At 5th gear, 65 kmph speed will be reached with 5000RPM in 14 teeth sprocket.
For the 13 teeth 65 KMPH at 5200 RPM.
But time taken to reach speed of 60 is reduced. As TVS said, RTR160 4v reaches 60 in 4.7 Secs. I did 4.1 secs with stock 13 teeth.
But in 14teeth it is 4.8 secs.

You should either reduce a tooth in the front sprocket or increase by 3 teeth in the rear sprocket. Don't change both the sprockets at once because the change will be drastic. Keep in mind that you will lose some top speed though.

Why not change the rear one? To a smaller sprocket from the RTR 180?

In terms of front sprocket, I don't understand why tvs gives 13T.
For my Victor glx 125, i took out the 13T sprocket and replaced it with 14T sprocket of Hero Passion XPro without any problem.
I tried with 15T front sprocket of pulsar 150 but it's pitch was bigger hence I decided to go for 14T sprocket of xpro.
Earlier with 13T sprocket, my glx was vibrating around speed above 50 kmph but now after changing the sprocket to 14T, I feel vibrations above speed of 70 hence comfortable ride on highways.
Earlier I had ratio of 13/43T and now I have 14/43 T sprocket ratio which is good(later I will try with Hero Achiever 15T front sprocket).

I to am struggling a little on highways while touring.
A query- I hear of your changing sprocket they say you'll have to change the whole setup, is it so?

I was almost planning to do so with my rtr 160 but with the rear sprocket as because the clearance at the back is more in comparison to front one.. well it would be fun to see the outcome results.. btw thanks for the information..
Secondly everyone talks about the engine rpm, carb setting etc etc which doesn't help much.. stunting guys remove headlamps and reduce weight from the front end to make the stunting job easier but non of them have ever talked about gear ration and nor thought of doing so..
I think with some minor changes and modifications we can successfully set the 14T sprocket in the rtr's.. because many times while crusing at highways i feelt a need of sixth gear in my both apache 200 and rtr 160.. btw nice video...

Thats a smaller pitch .428 sprocket but this is .520 pitch but as for rtr180's front sprocket i m preety sure it does fit in here but then you also need to change rear sprocket to smaller pitch of .428.

You can grind the gear rod a couple of mm more with a grinding power tool so that it fit perfectly without any issue 👍🏻
