What’s so shady is that literally the day before they did this they sent out an email about 10% off plugins and select bundles. And then next day is like “can’t buy them individually anymore”
I remember when Waves plugins were unbelievably out of my price range. So yeah, I admittedly pirated them back in the days because I couldn't afford it. Ironically, when their prices became more reasonable, I felt obligated to purchase the plugins that I liked and used which I did and since then I've been purchasing the plugins. I am a hobbyist so there's no need for me to be purchasing a subscription, which will mean I will no longer be using Waves as long as they decide to go down this route.
I absolutely agree. Even with the DAW companies. I don't understand the concept of paying more than $399 for an update, if u already have a professional from previous version. Im an Ableton user but FL Studio is the best DAW ever all things considered .
you know, back in 2002 there were a bunch of us indy vst devs who spent years fighting and getting our butts kicked by actual masons so you woud be able to express yourself for free. but you all believed their "quality" b.s. so you go on and pay freaking $399 for .....uuh... i can type a lowpass filter in one line holmes...
For sure. I can see people moving to plugin-alliance. I’ve been thinking about it for while. This might be the trigger. At least plugin-alliance gives something back

I have Hella ideas that are way better than then these
It would make sense to be a marketing ploy. I used to play MCOC and they did this often. Upset all of the community. Then they rolled back the changes and it made it seem like they listened. The community would feel relief and continue to give the company money. Now if Waves changes where you can buy the plugins I still won't go back.
if you ever talk to anyone in music who defends this kind of thing, they're a mason, and you can do more than fing speak on their A that's who your fing music community fam is. if you can see em you oughta fing f em
i have a few waves plugins that i didnt get the latest version of..it says that theyre activated in my account but i can use then because i didnt update since i switched computers...am i not able to keep them now?do i lose them fully? because im not subscribing.....
Warning: In the T&Cs it says "All updates are provided to you on a license exchange basis such that you agree, as a precondition for recieving an update, that you will terminate all your rights to use any previous version of the software." Thus if you sign up for the subscription, in turn you update your plugins and no longer have license to older versions (that your perpetual license sit under!) Dont support this company anymore and send a message to the rest of the industry! beside who want to put their projects behind a paywall that a company like waves can at any point crank up the pricing? don't do it, own your tools.
I believe that if you join the subscription, it terminates all your old perpetual licenses - a lot of people will get caught out by that - trying the sub for a month then being left with nothing. Really shameful behaviour.
Important Update: Perpetual Licenses and Updates Will Be Back Alongside Subscriptions Mar 29, 2023 Following your feedback, we are bringing back the option to purchase and update perpetual Waves plugin and bundle licenses, side-by-side with the new Waves Creative Access subscriptions. We are working to make perpetual licenses available to you again as quickly as possible. We will post real-time updates here as soon as they are available.
I have the ZIP package for waves. But I also know that some people can afford the month by month. Financial situations matter bruv. Sometimes you have to cancel to afford the phone bill ya dig
I hate subscription models for stuff like this. You pay many hundreds of dollars over the course of years and then you drop the subscription and can't use the software anymore... With live service update software like Adobe stuff I kinda understand that they have ongoing costs to cover as they continue to develop the software and update it to newest codecs, formats, hardware, etc. (even though I disagree with it and don't support it. I edit all my videos at my friend's place ;) ) With audio processing plugins that I expect to be finished by the time I acquire them, I don't see the same effort going into maintenance...
The problem is that it isn't value for money long-term. Maybe if they did the full package for 9.99 i may have stayed with them but wont be purchasing any more plugins with them. They should have kept 2 business models, buy to keep a subscription based.
waves will never get another cent from me. I’m not even going to use their products anymore. UA is basically the nice version of waves and they are having a massive sale right now, I’m pretty sure they saw what waves did and were like “bet” 😂
Like... I'm not nessicarily opposed to subscriptions, I have Izotope and Slate subscriptions. And I use them heavily. I only started diving into mixing a couple of years ago, and only mix my own metal project, so I'm definitely a hobbyist. The problem I have with this Waves thing is that they do not seem to give a single f' about their loyal customers. And that is something I can never support personally in a company.
Waves is a joke. To pay to update your plugins you already bought is so crazy to me. I’d rather just spend the extra money and buy the UAD versions. They sound so much better and you don’t have to pay to keep using stuff you already paid for…
Booom! And here is the apology of WAVES: Dear Waves community, My name is Meir Shashoua, and I’m the CTO and Co-Founder of Waves Audio. Over the past few days, many of you have expressed concerns about our decision to discontinue perpetual plugin licenses and our move to an exclusive plugin subscription model. I would like to start by apologizing for the frustration we have caused many of you, our loyal customers. We understand that our move was sudden and disruptive, and did not sufficiently take into consideration your needs, wishes, and preferences. We are genuinely sorry for the distress it has caused. After respectfully listening to your concerns, I want to share with you that we are bringing back the perpetual plugin license model, side-by-side with the new subscriptions. You will again be able to get plugins as perpetual licenses, just as before. In addition, those of you who already own perpetual licenses will once again be able to update your plugins and receive a second license via the Waves Update Plan-again, just as before. This option, too, will be available alongside and independently of the subscription program. We are currently putting all our efforts into making perpetual licenses available to you again, as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you can keep up-to-date on this news page, where we will post the latest updates on perpetual license availability. I would like you to know that we are committed to you, our users. We listened to your feedback, and we will continue to listen to you. Waves is a company filled with users and creators, just like you, and we are all as passionate about the products as you are. With this in mind, we will strive to find the way to make things right by you, and hopefully regain your trust. Thank you for your feedback and continued support-I wish you all the best, Meir Shashoua CTO and Co-Founder, Waves Audio
bad move by waves... they bit their longtime stam clientele.. I bought dozens of waves plugins where I have them because I bought them!! If I want to update them now, I have to take out an essential or ultimate subscription, which costs me 14.90 or 24.90.- per month.. and I convert my purchased plugins back into a rental relationship. that's the worst train! 👎🤮😱 .

This is the issue I have with just about alot of companies even Antares autotune. Everyone wants to run a subscription based model and it ruins your customer relationship altogether. I don't want to subscribe. Give me a one time fee.
Pro tools is now monthly, idk how to even buy perpetual license lol I think the main difference is most people using pro tools use it for commercial use
Thats why you just download the pirate copy of all them mafukkas :) hahahahaha I got all waves bundles 100% working. Started producing 2008. Never bought a single plugin.
Time to Pirate
Literally. Why be honest to these money grabbers👹

Nah just stick with your old plugins. You dont see DJ Premier updating his MPC.
