  • These BIC bookshelf speakers were a bargain used at $40. I thought they sounded good for what they are and the price I got them.
After doing some research, I discovered these are critiqued by many audio enthusiasts (audiophiles) for having very "bright" highs. That being said, mids are decent as well as lows from the 6.5" woofer drivers.
These modifications include removing the stock lousy small piece of loose poly-fill and treating the interior with Ownens Corning Pink "Small Projects" insulation and a rebuild of the cross-overs. I elected to have the cross-overs rebuilt by Dave Lowery. Ed Frias started modifying these cross-overs and Dave came into the scene with a slightly different build. If you are at all interested and I can point you to a discussion forum thread where you can reach out to Dave.
End results are simply a more refined leveled pair of speakers. I could easily spend $1000 on a new pair of bookshelf speakers and probably not hear much of a difference.

Hey Sailor --- good video, IMO. One other mod you may be able to do is to brace the inside cabinet walls using 1/2" wood dowels (ie: side to side). A couple should do wonders to stiffen the cabinet. You could also apply butyl sound damping sheets and route out the tweeter to flush-mount it on the baffle. The butyl sheets will reduce cabinet vibrations even further --- and flush mounting the tweeter should smooth out it's response (ie: no more double humps). I'm in the process of modding my PSB Imagine XBs and my Energy RC-10s in the same manner --- that is, before I send them to Danny at GR Research to get the crossovers modded. BTW, Semper Fi -- from your Jarhead neighbor, LOL.....

Hi there, great video. I have the same pair of BIC’s. May you point me to where you got the crossovers modded. Thank you!

Fiberglass in a ported box...? Bad idea.
Wearing gloves to protect your hands... imagine what the micro glass fibers going to do to your lungs once they vent out the port? Only use fiberglass in sealed enclosures.
