I was locked inside my room like this when the bolt jammed. I tried with these, but they broke off. I fortunately had a roll of flat plastic telephone cable with me in my room. I used it the same way you did, but pulled really hard. Vow. Im out now. Thanks for the info. You saved my day!

Well, no, it wasn’t. I’ve spent like 2 1/2 hours trying to get back into my bathroom, about ready to destroy something to get in, but you have saved my bacon and then some. I could of course only find one paper clip in my house, so that didn’t quite work. But then I thought to try a wire hanger, thinking it still wouldn’t catch. The wire trick from this video helped me on 19th July 2022.❤️ I was stuck inside my room without a toilet for nearly 7 hours. People outside couldn't help me as there was no spare key to get in. The only option was breaking open the door from the outside as the only door handle got broken in the struggle I did. I took rest for sometime and browsed RUclips to find this video. I used an old dress hanger and bent in a U shape to open the door lock through the small gap by the side. Thank you so much! Loads of love from India! ❤️ (My fingers are still paining due to the struggle I did to try and open the door by force 🙂)

A BIG THANK YOU. I was trapped in the TV room , due to lock failure! Fortunately my wife was in the kitchen and heard my call. Now who on earth uses paper clips anymore, but I remembered that I had a large one in the office desk, which was passed under the door and bingo! The clip is now in my toolbox! What a lifesaver!

Hurray for this video! Handle to the utility got caught on the drying rack on the other side and we were at the point of brute force and damage. Used the paperclip and used a screwdriver as handle. It worked. Thank you! Ingenious 🎉😊

I’ll just call you MacGyver, the paper clip method worked perfectly! Thank you! I ended up using 3 paper clips, one to bend around the latch and then I curved both ends. Hooked two paper clips to each curve and pulled on both, seemed to provide the best leverage. Thanks again and take care.

I used this JUST now!! was stuck in a room whilst painting a door I didn't have paperclips but I had a piece of wire from a little candle holder The door opened and blew shut as the window was open LOL but it worked the second time around!!! My husband had no keys to come into the house and I did not want to pay a locksmith. THANK YOU!!!!
Yep , just got a door open using this. I got the wire in, it wouldn't fully rotate the lock, but it did move it enough so I could get a thin flexible paring knife in to assist. Then I went out the back door, in through the front door and gave it a good shove from the other side. Ping! Sorted. Many thanks for this great video!

This video totally saved me. I was locked inside of my bedroom without a phone, and therefor no paperclips or tools. Before looking online for help I tried a credit card (was not the right kind of bolt) and to take the hardware out of the hinges to get the door off the other way but the hinges had been painted over and were essentially stuck without some proper tools. I had to use what was lying around, and ended up using the arms of two wire-rimmed sunglasses. Totally useful info. Thank you!!

Yes of course this morning my door ratchet slipped and i could not get out of my bedrrom literally opened it 5 mins ago after using your first method I didnt have any of that paperclip or tool gubbins but I did realise i had wire coat hangers I used one of those and open it popped. Omg this vid was great 👍🏾 I got stuck in my living room today for like 1 hour. All I had was a flexible wooden string and I gathered them up and bender them and I was able to unlock the door 🚪 This shows that you don’t have to use paper clips if u haven’t got them u can use anything that’s flexible and strong 💪 thank u soooooo muuuuccchhhhhh. This is youtube gold thank you so much! Had to climb through the window to be on the inside again but it worked. Used strong jewellery wire with a towel wrapped so could pull hard. Still need to replace the handle but at least don’t need to wait for a man to rescue me 💁♀️

Thanks for this - I had neither a sparrows hall pass nor paper clips to hand, so cut an old nectar card into the correct shape. The method worked perfectly for the door jam we had.

You are very welcome. Glad it worked. I bought a bunch of PVC thin cards off ebay and made a bunch of them using my hall pass as a template. Always handy to have in an emergency to help exit a room when your handle breaks. There's no guarantees it will work because it depends on what side of the door you are on, how tightly the door fits, whether the bolt has a nice curve or is a bit too straight or has a dead locking capability. BUT it is very useful to have something like that with you because your chances are higher if you have such a tool compared to not having anything on you.
Thank you so much brother. I found a steel wire inside a comb, sticked it in the gap and pried as hard as i can. Thought it wouldn't work at first because my door is rather heavy but after pivoting the steel wire using my fingers i managed to open it!

Amazing! I had managed to get my cupboard door jammed by something falling and sticking the handle. After watching this I tried using a flat spanner tool that came with a furniture pack, similar shaped to the tool you used and it popped the door open. Thank you!!! 👍🏻

This was very helpful. I was able to use a thick guitar string, and a little pressure on the door by another person on the other side, and all was good! (The door handle assembly was totally screwed from either side!)

A BIG THANK YOU. I was trapped in the TV room , due to lock failure! Fortunately my wife was in the kitchen and heard my call. Now who on earth uses paper clips anymore, but I remembered that I had a large one in the office desk, which was passed under the door and bingo!

I’ll just call you MacGyver, the paper clip method worked perfectly! Thank you! I ended up using 3 paper clips, one to bend around the latch and then I curved both ends. Hooked two paper clips to each curve and pulled on both, seemed to provide the best leverage. Thanks again and take care.

I used this JUST now!! was stuck in a room whilst painting a door I didn't have paperclips but I had a piece of wire from a little candle holder The door opened and blew shut as the window was open LOL but it worked the second time around!!! Yep , just got a door open using this. I got the wire in, it wouldn't fully rotate the lock, but it did move it enough so I could get a thin flexible paring knife in to assist. Then I went out the back door, in through the front door and gave it a good shove from the other side. Ping! Sorted. Many thanks for this great video!

This video totally saved me. I was locked inside of my bedroom without a phone, and therefor no paperclips or tools. Before looking online for help I tried a credit card (was not the right kind of bolt) and to take the hardware out of the hinges to get the door off the other way but the hinges had been painted over and were essentially stuck without some proper tools. I had to use what was lying around, and ended up using the arms of two wire-rimmed sunglasses. Totally useful info. Thank you!!

Yes of course this morning my door ratchet slipped and i could not get out of my bedrrom literally opened it 5 mins ago after using your first method I didnt have any of that paperclip or tool gubbins but I did realise i had wire coat hangers I used one of those and open it popped. I got stuck in my living room today for like 1 hour.
All I had was a flexible wooden string and I gathered them up and bender them and I was able to unlock the door 🚪 This shows that you don’t have to use paper clips if u haven’t got them u can use anything that’s flexible and strong 💪 thank u soooooo muuuuccchhhhhh. Vid defo recommended

Thanks for this - I had neither a sparrows hall pass nor paper clips to hand, so cut an old nectar card into the correct shape. The method worked perfectly for the door jam we had.

You are very welcome. Glad it worked. I bought a bunch of PVC thin cards off ebay and made a bunch of them using my hall pass as a template. Always handy to have in an emergency to help exit a room when your handle breaks. There's no guarantees it will work because it depends on what side of the door you are on, how tightly the door fits, whether the bolt has a nice curve or is a bit too straight or has a dead locking capability. BUT it is very useful to have something like that with you because your chances are higher if you have such a tool compared to not having anything on you.
Thank you so much brother. I found a steel wire inside a comb, sticked it in the gap and pried as hard as i can. Thought it wouldn't work at first because my door is rather heavy but after pivoting the steel wire using my fingers i managed to open it!

My grandson made me a ‘rose’ from a white metal hanger & two small players! The pretend stem and leaf, at the bottom of it…was Thin enough2 slip through and strong enough2 spring the latch back! My wonderful grandson!(And U2..Great Advice!) x
Lol jesus, thanks man. I used thick braided fishing line, and it also worked. I was locked into a room after my doorhandle malfunctioned for nearly an hour, nearly had a panick attack that i might be stuck for an entire day until someone could help me get out from the outside.

Amazing! I had managed to get my cupboard door jammed by something falling and sticking the handle. After watching this I tried using a flat spanner tool that came with a furniture pack, similar shaped to the tool you used and it popped the door open. Thank you!!! 👍🏻

The latch was stiff so I used an Allen key. It was quite a thick one with enough purchase and was perfect for the job 👍

This was very helpful. I was able to use a thick guitar string, and a little pressure on the door by another person on the other side, and all was good! (The door handle assembly was totally screwed from either side!)
