That has to be one of the best quotes I've ever heard! "Scratch an actor and you'll find an actress." Its hysterical and yet so on point. Edward Norton is clearly an intelligent man but also incredibly humble, which when you consider the accolades he's received is so refreshing and very likeable.
Ed pointing out that actors believing that they’re the characters they play instead of the stage nerds(not an insult)they are is refreshingly self honest from his peer group. It’s a disconnect that is ruining Hollywood. Putting their politics into other better creators stories and characters by stealing their work and distorting it to fit a new narrative of today’s social justice hot topic of choice.
I think most of the really good actors like him, or Penn, or Jude Law etc...they all know it's dress up and doesn't really mean that much in terms of "real world". But at the same time that doesn't mean you can't respect the vast tradition of the art form and realize that within that world it's quite fine to "take it seriously", and there is nothing wrong with that. It's a craft and when it's done well it's amazing, and not something anyone can just do.
Maybe but then again he doesn't actually play "The Hulk" he plays the nerd who becomes the hulk so a better representation would be American History X where he does actually play the big built badass
I don’t care what anybody says, including Norton, Norton is a bad ass. If for no other reason then like Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix, he is willing to go to crazy lengths to become the character he is going to play.
Grounding and humbling reminder. Everyone plays dress up to some degree, actors get paid to. Heard a DP refer to actors as Meat Puppets. The good ones you don't see strings attached. Heard another actor refer to himself as lense meat.
Ive always thought this about movies in general. Its just adults playing pretend with really cool props. We did that shit as kids and people just ignored us.And people who pretend to be someone else in public are looked on as crazy.
I know I'm in a small camp, But I really wish all the Drama with him and the Hulk movie didn't happen. I like him better as Bruce Banner. Just my opinion.
Same here. I like Ruffalo as an actor but for Bruce Banner, Norton was more interesting. He brought certain darkness to the character. Having said that, considering where they went with the character in Thor: Ragnarock and Endgame, Ruffalo fits that tone better.
Vin Dieseal is a classic example of this. They are playing dress up. Fans often get caught thinking the characters they play are anything like them in real person. They are drama professionals. If you asked Vin Diesel or Christian Bale to play a ballerina they would do it, do it well, and probably enjoy it. Its an act...
@@Whatsgoingoninmycrib They are on opposite ends of the scale...but they are on the exact same scale. They both play dress up. One plays it better than the other. But neither are real representations of the characters they play.
If you like Edward Norton’s acting, check out all the other stuff he has been and is involved in. It’s absolutely remarkable. A lot of people don’t know that he is that knowledgeable in a vast area of topics, none related to acting. His whole family is super impressive. I even heard him say, he is a bit of the ‘black sheep’ in the family, since bc of acting he has been less environmentally and philanthropically active than his dad and siblings. He also went to Yale and for a while he struggled to admit to himself that he wanted to pursue acting full time because it the back of his head he felt that it’s not a ‘serious’ job, just something he would do on the side bc he enjoyed it so much. I watched this a while ago and have listened to his other podcasts and talks. In case he has talked about all this in this interview anyways , I apologize.
I can't wait to get high and listen to this whole podcast on Saturday while doing fuck all. Edward Norton has been my favourite actor since American History X. I remember watching that movie as a teen and being mind blown.
Dude, I couldn’t relate to this comment more. Literally every part of it. 😂 I’m gonna smoke up, listen to the podcast on Sat... Ed Norton is ALSO my fav... AND I remember watching American History X in hs and it blowing me away. 🤣
I worked at a pretty nice restaurant across the street from one of Jeff Daniel's theaters. One evening Edward Norton came in with a guest and was a complete asshole to the server and complained the entire time. He then left her $200 tip on about a $300 tab. Not bad. Still not sure what kind of power move that was (or wasn't), but he's a dope actor.
Robert De Niro is a great example of someone pretending to be a tough guy in real life, but he is really just a drama class dork who plays make believe for a living.
Tom hardy has played a lot of tough guy roles, the krays, bronson, mad max,the mma film.. Tom is from an upper class background and was originally a model,I think hes talking about him..
He's right. The average 6 month learned boxer would tear up 95% of tough guy actors. You can fool a lot of moviegoers with your acting chops, but end of the day performance is for show.
The realm of acting as entertainment is a totally dispensable t big be guess what, when you don’t have snooty jerks pretending situations on tv you have more time to experience REAL THINGS IN YOUR OWN LIFE. Actors need to step off their imaginary thrones
You've heard of the ID correct?...like your shadow almost so all the I want to be...that's my shadow...my original self is loving caring would put anyone before himself....my shadow is opposite...it manifested through years of abuse...sometimes I'm myself sometimes I'm the shadow...
Heard Norton on Maron. He is an insufferable bore. He thinks he is the smartest guy in the room, and pontificates about every subject, yet is a hypocrite.
Uncle Joe He does because it was his project. He just had creative differences with Kevin Feige who wanted to work the Hulk character into a franchise (Avengers) but Ed Norton wanted to make movies similar to the Bill Bixby tv show.
Norton has so much going through his mind, but he has a hard time expressing it in words
NØFΛCE☿ i can relate
He needs a podcast!!!
He needs his own podcast!!
you always read about norton being difficult to work with, but he seems like a genuinely nice, intelligent and interesting man.

He insisted the shower scene in American History X to be real.
This man is dedicated.
hahaha STFU 😆
He put his foot down.. or up
Lmao

"Scratch an actor, you'll find an actress." Yet another killer Dorothy Parker quote that I've never heard before. She was the greatest.
Dorothy Parker on drinking Martinis at parties: After one I’m under the weather, after two I’m under the table, after three I’m under the host. 🍸

poleag must be the hair transplant
The Dude It's a lot more than that lmao fuck out of here
Am I overly sensitive or was there like 5 seconds of awkwardness when Joe mentioned the Hulk
I think that's why he brought up American History X so quickly lol.
Noticed that too
Maybe but then again he doesn't actually play "The Hulk" he plays the nerd who becomes the hulk so a better representation would be American History X where he does actually play the big built badass
You're not overly sensitive. He really hates talking about that movie. lol
The Hulk wasn't actually a correct example of the point he was making. Joe realized it and corrected it by saying American History X.
Edward's intelligence sometimes gets in the way of how he expresses himself. The due is wicked smart.
Hell of an actor. Great martial artist. Awesome thinker. An example of a human being making he's time count.
I don’t care what anybody says, including Norton, Norton is a bad ass. If for no other reason then like Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix, he is willing to go to crazy lengths to become the character he is going to play.
First rule of the Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club.
Norton is intelligent and focused, this probably scares Hollywood
Grounding and humbling reminder. Everyone plays dress up to some degree, actors get paid to. Heard a DP refer to actors as Meat Puppets. The good ones you don't see strings attached. Heard another actor refer to himself as lense meat.
John Wayne and Ronald Reagan basically became their cinematic personas and the 'real' person behind the act disappeared (In public anyway)
Ive always thought this about movies in general. Its just adults playing pretend with really cool props. We did that shit as kids and people just ignored us.And people who pretend to be someone else in public are looked on as crazy.
For sure. I think that with all of the super hero movies.

Norton's great all his movies are good
Its just for the money and women, Norton. Is that simple
