I think all the Dobro's are beautiful. But, being an all metal body resonator guitar guy, I really love the fiddle edge Dobro! Excellent demo, as always, Martyn! From a proud National owner in New Jersey! 😎✌️🎶☘️🍀

Hello from Luxemburg, Europe. Thank you for your review. I have a Rekording King from 2009,I love it but a bit heavy. Today I tested a Fender PR 180 e like a Dobro, and I enjoyed .The Fender is less heavy than the Rekording King.

Fantastic! They’re all so different which is why this channel helps people but trying in person is always better!!

Nearly bought a national steel in london in the sixties. Advertised in melody maker for £90-00 in a red velvet lined case in new condition. Yet another of lifes opertunities missed.

The fiddle edge was it for me. I always liked the National best, but the fiddle edge had a fuller, rounder tone. It’s also a beautiful piece. Thanks!

    High Martyn,
All 3 guitars sound very well to me.
The brass one would be my first choice.
Much love, luck and good gigs for you,
    T.

Very interesting not listened to a lot of music played on these so difficult to make a judgement. I can certainly hear their differences they all sound great with the slide but some seem to lose it on low end cords or notes so it will depend on what musical piece you are playing and what you expect the sound to be. The judgement for me would be to hear you play some pieces on them over a period of time as they all have their charm. Nice video thanks for sharing. I am listening on laptop with good earphones👍👍

Earphones help! It’s the beauty of these guitars. The different voices. What works for one doesn’t work for another!

Nice comparison... the first one sounded great on picking but dead on the strumming.... the D33 was better but the Fiddle Edge had more of everything so that would be my choice if buying to play.

Your Model 27 is actually a Regal made Model 25--the 27 had screen holes, not "F" holes. The photo is of Rudy, not John Dopyera.

    Hello Martyn,
Many thanks for this very informative video on resonator guitars.
I own an all-metal Gretsch resonator guitar.
What type of ropes and tension do you recommend?

The best are Newtone Michael Messer 13 Phosphor Bronze or closely followed by Daddario 13 Phosphor Bronze.
Try that first and adjust accordingly thereafter.

It would be helpful to me if you just held a note with the slide until the sustain ended . I play quite slow minimal blues style and sustain is of major interest to me.

What would be your recommendation be for a quality budget left handed resonator???

    • @TheWashboardResonators
      @TheWashboardResonators  7 месяцев назад +2

If in the UK, Canada or Europe the Michael Messer range. Otherwise, I like Republic. The nut and bridge can be cut for LH playing.
