  • Although Lincoln Riley and the USC Football program had a tough loss against Michigan on Saturday, there have been plenty of bright spots that have emerged for this football team. Most notably the mergence of Eric Gentry at the LB spot.

Can’t spot the champs at home 14 points. Riley also gave the game away with the lead with those dumb shovel passes and wasting his time outs. Inexcusable

I'm kind of baffled by the outpouring of criticism of USC's performance in the loss to Michigan, but then, when I pan out to see the bigger picture, what stands out is that the bulk of it is coming from the resident BIG10 content creators, most of whom were applauding USC's move to the BIG10 on the surface, but as it turns out, were really just pandering to the audience & Trojan faithful to get clicks, follows & likes. Upon closer observation, these channels were just waiting to pounce on USC to exploit every flaw, every misstep, every microscopic nuance for the purpose of building a case for the argument that USC is somehow, gonna be exposed. That it's in way over its head. That the BIG10 was gonna be a nightmare for the soft west coast 7 on 7 mentality. Who tf do they think they are? Michigan wins a Natty in 2023 & now you can talk down to a program whose history is replete with success on the national stage throughout its rich & storied history. How does a soft program produce 530 NFL draft picks, 8 Heisman Trophy winners, 14 NFL HOF inductees, 5 #1 overall draft picks, 11 National Championships, 36 PAC12 Championships, 25 Rose Bowl victories, most of which came at the expense of BIG10 opponents, a winning record against every current BIG10 team that has ever played them. How in the actual f**k does the mediocrity of the previous 10 years (7 of which were due to the abject coaching futility of Clay Helton) obliterate 100 years of excellence? Anyway, to conflate the most recent failure with multiple layers of nuance to characterize the loss to the defending National Champs in THEIR fabled, sold out 'Big House' in front of 110,000 rabid, raucous fans, by 3 f***ing points In the last minute of the game, as a monumental failure of just about every phase of the game is pretentious to say the least. Laughable to be more astute. The Trojans lost because of ONE single play, that were it not to have happened, the Wolverines simply would not have won the game. Period. USC played an awful first quarter & first half in general that left them with an 11 point deficit
at halftime, but from the 10 minute mark of the 2nd quarter & all the way to the end of the game with the lone exception of Kalel Mullings' 63 yard run, the Trojans DOMINATED the Wolverines on both sides of the ball, holding them to 15 total yards from scrimmage, 0 first downs, 4 punts & 2 fumbles while scoring 3 TD's on offense. Never mind the blown calls & no calls that went in Michigan's favor. Taking everything into account, the hostile home crowd, the two touchdown advantage, the pick 6, the abysmal performance of the O-Line & specifically Elijah Page, the 4 sacks, 8 knockdowns & 26 pressures on Miller Moss, the Trojans controlled the clock & fought back against the National Champs in their house & had the lead until 37 seconds left in the game. I'm disappointed with the loss, but it's pure & arrogant folly to chop it up into a thousand different reasons why they lost. They lost because of ONE play. That's it. That's all it was. The Trojans deserved to lose the game because they had two clear angles of attack to stop that run inside of 10 yards & they didn't make the play. Take away the 3 big runs by Mullings & Griffith, and Michigan ran the ball 39 times for 146 yards, so at worst, you can say that the outcome of the game hinged on 3 plays, but the halftime adjustments made by Riley & Henson were spot on & effective enough to put the team in a position to win. They just failed to make one play in the 4th quarter. That hardly amounts to monumental collapse in team concept, game management & play calling that it's being portrayed by the BIG10 media & online contingency. Let's see how it all shakes out in November before we start dancing on USC's grave.

ROC Boys, don’t know if you all know the significance of No.55. It’s our premiere LB number. Greats like Junior Seau wore it. No one has worn the number in years. Gentry had earned it

If you see my post on USC J site pre-season, I predicted the Eric Gentry would be an All-American this season. He was a Freshman All-American at ASU, Grinch didn’t play him, then he got hurt, I knew that Lynn would put Gentry in situations to be a beast. If he continues to stay healthy, no doubt he’s going to have a huge year, and will definitely be 1st team All-American at the end of the season.
