It’s hard and a lot of people will try and sell expensive courses for basic information and take advance of people wanting to start in this industry. Unfortunately just having recently getting started myself I’ve seen the direction it’s heading in. With hundreds of crew desperate for work, even offering to work for free. It’s hard work and stressful getting a start in this industry and you’re one of the few people who genuinely wanted to help without seeking compensation from young aspiring and desperate greenies. Your videos where shown in many of my yacht courses and the knowledge you shared over the last few years is beyond valuable. You will always be a major factor in why I got started in this industry and I know I couldn’t thank you enough. Good luck with your future journeys and I hope to see more videos!

You've been one of my inspirations in pursuing my yachting career. I left my high-paying and stable position in commercial shipping and should have been promoted to the highest engineering rank last year but I chose to let it go because I no longer feel excited working on commercial ships. Now, it will be my second season onboard my first private yacht and I feel good about it and more excited everyday. I really feel your point Man and I salute you for following your intuition. You're doing a great decision and we will be more excited to your upcoming endeavors. More power to you Mate and enjoy the process!

Matthew, you are one incredibly smart man, because most people haven’t thought about their future as carefully as you have. I think that many people just live one day at a time and they can’t imagine growing old and even watching their own vibrant parents die from old age or any of our terrible diseases. I know that’s a bit heavy, but I’m 64 now and I don’t have an unlimited number of Christmas’s left. Congratulations on finding your wonderful girlfriend Adriana! I started yachting 3 years ago, felt sick of this lifestyle this year, managed to create a source of income from amazon and i will try to expand further in the online business world, thank you for all your videos, I learned a lot from you and it is nice to know in the back of my mind that I can always come back on a superyacht and earn good money even if that means sacrificing my life for months and months ... After all, the most difficult point for any business is to get started and have money to invest...thankfully yachting can be a great great help for people who wants to try until they make it! I wanted to take my yacht master but for now I will just wait and see how the things will go for myself...another thing that yachties complains about is that the wages are the same since 20 years despite the cost of living is 2-3x what it was... It is still nice to know that the industry is at an all time high and the demand will be very high for the next year's

That’s when I knew the sparkle had gone and I needed to make roots on land. HI have the best photo album and set of memories I could ever dream of, but TOTALLY understand how you feel. That was 28 years ago & for me and those sea years gave me so many incredible skills to take e through life. We all move on and now is your time. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 (My daughter joined her first yacht in October and son doing his training in Antibes this summer 😂) It’s the way the cycle works. 🎉

Hey Matthew! First of all, congratulations on the new direction and making the step to change, it can be a scary and unsettling thing to go through, but once you have made that step, it can feel amazing. Secondly, it is as if you have just reached into my mind and verbalised exactly where I am at. I am not in yachting, but private aviation as chief steward and I have been flying as crew (commercial then private) for almost 17 years. I feel exactly as you have described, and for the same reasons. I am 43 this week and after losing my father to leukaemia in 2020, my outlook on work and life in general started to change. Now my mum is almost 70 and I value my time with my family much more than I appreciated, I feel like the month on month off rotation with uncertainty of roster, and being so far away from home, just isn't worth the mental anguish any more. I will be following closely what you are up to, and if you do set up the new channel, you can count me in. I know I have many many skills, but I have no idea what to do with them next. Matthew - you are an extremely well-spoken and articulate person. Spokesperson for a large company, corporation, government (federal, state/province, municipal level), etc. are possibilities. Instructor at a yacht/nautical training school? You are also obviously an intelligent and caring person. All of the aforementioned are excellent skills that, sadly, seem to be a rarity these days. I just started my first season as a deckhand onboard a super yacht. You were a huge inspiration for me and really gave me the confidence to take a leap of faith and try my luck at finding a job onboard a super yacht in the Mediterranean. I arrived in Antibes on the 8th of March and was lucky enough to find some daywork shortly after my arrival. I remember referring back to your videos when I did my first wash down. After several weeks of searching I finally got the call to join a yacht in La Spezia. I start on Monday! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you have put into your videos, they have helped me in a massive way. Wishing you all the best for the start of your new journey.
Great video Matt, I understand how you feel and I can relate to all you said. Yachting is a huge sacrifice and it is beyond me how it is possible that after all this years industry is still so hectic in many regards, with huge migrations and extremely poor retention of the crew. One would expect that by now everybody realized that time for time rotation is the only way to work without burning people ... Good luck buddy and keep recording videos because you are great.

Such a legend. Your videos I always wish would have come out back when I was in yachting. Could have helped me out so much in the start. I suffered with 'nothing works' in yachting point when I was in my mid-20's with a kid on the way and deciding how much time and firsts I wanted to miss. That's when I realized it was none. So those two factors combined to the point that I was finished. I later regretted it, but only slightly and thats mainly because money was tight. I wish I would have stayed within the industry somehow. Now all I want to do is try and get back in, but my life has too many restrictions so even that is hard. If you have any passion left for the industry, that is the one thing I suggest you do. Stay connected in some way. Lot's of charter outfits, people looking to get itineraries together, having agents in place for all sorts of things, project manager, yard maintenance manager. Poland obviously has Sunreef and Columbus yachts. They could pay for the knowledge you have in building a yacht on spec. Those are all good things to offer up as skills. Whatever happens, I'll watch. You are highly entertaining, funny, knowledgeable and have a gift with storytelling. Even telling stories about previous trips where you play all the characters along the way would be a huge hit. Even if you do nothing in yachting it's worth it. I had friends that were going to France and Italy and I sent them your video about dock walking and navigating the trains there, to watch. Your gift is your ability to tell the story in the most entertaining way.

Glad to have an update and just as glad you're doing well. 6:06 ... about 24 years ago now, I was a fully fledge adult who was not quite having a mid-life crisis but not at all happy. A boss who was also my very trusted mentor - handed me a little paperback book. I went into my office with that book (and I think with my lunch as well), put me feet up and didn't come out until I had read it. Not long after (I don't recall the exact time frame) - I was GONE. Lock, Stok & Barrel - not only that job, but that industry and moved half way across the country. That book was called "Who Moved My Cheese". #ChangedMyLife. Whether I continue to follow you or not, I wish you the very best with your future. And congratulate you on having the foresight (and CURAGE) to get out before it ruined you. 👍👍
@@WorkonaSuperyacht ~ you’ve pretty much done what I needed that book for. I do think you’ll get something from it though, even if just more confirmation you’re doing the right thing for you at this time. (You still have all the training and experience and nothing would prevent you from going back to yachting if you wanted to.) And it’s not a very long book so it won’t take you much to get through it. I think I read it more than once after that first read - just because I was so convinced it was right in what it was saying and I wanted to be sure I was getting the whole message, haha. I do think I owe quite a bit to the mentor who handed it to me and recommend it to anyone who is questioning where they are. Again, I wish you the best - still enjoy watching your old vids when I have time to go back and view them. And I’m sure there are people out there wanting to get into yachting who get a ton out of them. 👍

Thank you for your service. 😉 Ten years is a good stint in a career. It is also quite normal to change careers at some point in your life. Some people will change careers a few times. Spending your early adult years working in yachting can be a huge opportunity for getting yourself in a great financial position for your future life. Start with a good financial plan though and take it seriously. Shoot, if you do it well, you could conceivably retire after ten years! If you want to retire in style, work 15 years in yachting with a proper financial plan.

Thanks Matthew for your channel! I’m 39 this year and spent most of my life in supply chain/ warehousing. With me you fulfilled your goal of making sure new entrants don’t neglect their certs and get stuck in a position. I’m now well on my way in deck and engineering, on a yacht that gets plenty of sea time so in a year or two I can start getting my OOW courses completed and sit for my OOW 3000. Thank you so much for all you have brought to us all over the years, whether we were interested in a career in yachts or just plain curious. It is so true about different between continuing in something because you want to or because you feel trapped in it. Transitioning out of things can be hard as many ex military personnel can attest. An exit strategy is probably not the best mind set starting off in any career, but as you make your way in a given career having an eye for a suitable exit strategy is a wise path, unless you are happy to stay somewhere to retirement but even that needs planning. Wishing you very success in whatever you do with your career going forward, and the very best in your personal life. May the future bring everything you wish, because I am sure you will work hard to bring these things to you.

This is quite refreshing to hear. I joined my first yacht in October 2022 at the age of 28. It's private/charter and the season will start in June and end in October. I'm currently a deckhand and my contract is 11 months on, 1 month off. The only crew members with any kind of real rotation are the Cpt and C/E with 2 on and 2 off. I'm enjoying my job so far, I'm learning so much about the deck, and I'm definitely far more financially stable since having this job. With that being said, I already feel like yachting is not for me. Spending almost all of your time away from home, family and friends isn't sustainable for me. Not only that but almost everyone else on this yacht is saying that they see an end to their yachting careers as well (not because of this particular yacht, btw) because of contract times and the difficulties the industry comes with. I can see myself in this career for 2 or 3, possibly 4 years to gain more money and have a good financial foundation but my passion lies elsewhere. It's a shame because I spent 3 years of my life getting my OOW Unlimited Certificate but it's not worth me being miserable just for the sake of money. Yachting can be great for your finances, you will have some truly unique experiences that can't be found elsewhere and you will make friends for life. But for me, thus far, the cons outweigh the pros. Then again, in 2 or 3 years' time, I may grow to love this industry! Who knows? Anyway, thank you so much for your videos and I wish you all the best for the future!

Hello again my friend! You were one of the first to know that in the 2023 season I got the position of Chief officer on 40m+ yacht and I want to say that this season will be a test season for me. I have to decide if I should continue or if it's better to return to the construction industry on the coast. I feel that I am not satisfied with the work on yachts. I have come a long and very successful way in this direction, but it is not quite what I expected. Just like you, I feel that I need to exhale and relax. I just want to leave this comment here for those who aspire to the yachting industry. I started as a sailor 2 years ago when I was 34 years old. Now I'm almost 37 and this is my third season and first time as Chief Officer, but I don't feel happy. Initial motivation evaporated and interest disappeared. This job may not be right for you. Get ready for hard work. Remember that you are trading your life time for money here.

This video has opened a can of worms for me. I’m 30 been a chief officer on numerous 45-55m vessels for the past 2-3 years now and took a long break in winter. About to start the season now on a new gig which I thought I wanted but really I’m not happy, deep down I don’t think I ever have truly been happy in this industry and only the money is what’s kept me going . Trying to find this pay elsewhere isn’t an easy task especially when you’ve been used tax free income for so long.

Hello Glenn. I've watched very little of Below Deck, but I do know that the production team set up scenarios to catch the crew off guard. If there was that much going wrong ordinarily then you'd have to question the competence of the crew. And no, most captains aren't chilling in the bridge all day 😅. Furthermore, there are "real" crew on board that you don't see who keep the yacht running safely behind the scenes.
Dear Matthew, You are lucky to have been able to start in the yachting industry. It is a fact and correct me if I'm wrong, but not all nationalities can join the industry. I hold my unlimited qualifications and have tried to join but rarely was I given a chance (only in the last year and they have been asking for covid vaccine which I haven't got). In any case, being in the merchant navy, lots of us dream about working on yachts but I can understand how serving customers can be as exhausting as transferring cargo (though we rarely get any complaints!). You work long hours, sometimes not meeting the requirements, it is expected that you are in a good mood even when you're not, plus most of you work on permanent contracts and therefore only go home for about a month per year. Did you ask yourself if by finding a rotational position you would feel better? My suggestion is that since you now have management experience (chief mate's sea-time in your seaman's book) you should look into working ashore. Try any ISM compliance roles, crew management (since you've been giving advise over here) or class related roles.

What other issues do they need the MN Masters to attend to and what qualifications could the latter acquire so as to perform this kind of freelance work?
I don't think there was anything that particularly annoyed me. It was great when I was younger, but the lifestyle just doesn't work for me anymore. Living at work became more tiresome as a grew older, and I wanted to pursue other things.

Why is it oh no? You've got 3 years until you're 35, and there are plenty of yacht crew here in the comments who started much later than that. If a career in yachting is what you really want, you should go for it!
@@WorkonaSuperyacht I reached the same point in my life when I'm wondering what am I doing with my time really in the office. In short, thanks to this job now, I had the chance to start sailing as a hobby, and in the past 2-3 years that put me in the mindset that I don't belong in the office. I take more pride in a well-polished stainless steel handrail or a well-planned passage that my crew enjoys, than I do in a new product or feature launch working in tech. However, if I want to be completely honest with myself, I would like to start a family in the next few years, and I'm pretty sure that a career in Yachting is not compatible in any way with that "project", and this is exactly that you mention as well in the video as kind of a breaking point. So I feel have to get the priorities straight if I want to take pride and joy in my work or be "stable".

Always do whatever you love, the money is pointless when you don't have the friends, family, freedom of choice and time to enjoy it and many people get stuck in a career they hate fearing to make the change themselves. Again well done for taking that leap of faith in yourself. It's hard to leave an industry that is looked upon as the pinnacle of success having been there myself as you know. Unfortunately just having recently getting started myself I’ve seen the direction it’s heading in. With hundreds of crew desperate for work, even offering to work for free. It’s hard work and stressful getting a start in this industry and you’re one of the few people who genuinely wanted to help without seeking compensation from young aspiring and desperate greenies. Your videos where shown in many of my yacht courses and the knowledge you shared over the last few years is beyond valuable. You will always be a major factor in why I got started in this industry and I know I couldn’t thank you enough. Good luck with your future journeys and I hope to see more videos!

You've been one of my inspirations in pursuing my yachting career. I left my high-paying and stable position in commercial shipping and should have been promoted to the highest engineering rank last year but I chose to let it go because I no longer feel excited working on commercial ships.
Now, it will be my second season onboard my first private yacht and I feel good about it and more excited everyday.

Matthew, you are one incredibly smart man, because most people haven’t thought about their future as carefully as you have. I think that many people just live one day at a time and they can’t imagine growing old and even watching their own vibrant parents die from old age or any of our terrible diseases. I know that’s a bit heavy, but I’m 64 now and I don’t have an unlimited number of Christmas’s left.

I started yachting 3 years ago, felt sick of this lifestyle this year, managed to create a source of income from amazon and i will try to expand further in the online business world, thank you for all your videos, I learned a lot from you and it is nice to know in the back of my mind that I can always come back on a superyacht and earn good money even if that means sacrificing my life for months and months ... After all, the most difficult point for any business is to get started and have money to invest...thankfully yachting can be a great great help for people who wants to try until they make it! I wanted to take my yacht master but for now I will just wait and see how the things will go for myself...another thing that yachties complains about is that the wages are the same since 20 years despite the cost of living is 2-3x what it was... It is still nice to know that the industry is at an all time high and the demand will be very high for the next year's

That’s when I knew the sparkle had gone and I needed to make roots on land. HI have the best photo album and set of memories I could ever dream of, but TOTALLY understand how you feel. That was 28 years ago & for me and those sea years gave me so many incredible skills to take e through life. We all move on and now is your time. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 (My daughter joined her first yacht in October and son doing his training in Antibes this summer 😂) It’s the way the cycle works. 🎉

Hey Matthew! First of all, congratulations on the new direction and making the step to change, it can be a scary and unsettling thing to go through, but once you have made that step, it can feel amazing. Secondly, it is as if you have just reached into my mind and verbalised exactly where I am at. I am not in yachting, but private aviation as chief steward and I have been flying as crew (commercial then private) for almost 17 years. I feel exactly as you have described, and for the same reasons. I am 43 this week and after losing my father to leukaemia in 2020, my outlook on work and life in general started to change. Now my mum is almost 70 and I value my time with my family much more than I appreciated, I feel like the month on month off rotation with uncertainty of roster, and being so far away from home, just isn't worth the mental anguish any more. I will be following closely what you are up to, and if you do set up the new channel, you can count me in. I know I have many many skills, but I have no idea what to do with them next. Matthew - you are an extremely well-spoken and articulate person. Spokesperson for a large company, corporation, government (federal, state/province, municipal level), etc. are possibilities. Instructor at a yacht/nautical training school? You are also obviously an intelligent and caring person. All of the aforementioned are excellent skills that, sadly, seem to be a rarity these days.
I believe 'the world is your oyster', and you will excel at whatever you choose.

I just started my first season as a deckhand onboard a super yacht. You were a huge inspiration for me and really gave me the confidence to take a leap of faith and try my luck at finding a job onboard a super yacht in the Mediterranean. I arrived in Antibes on the 8th of March and was lucky enough to find some daywork shortly after my arrival. I remember referring back to your videos when I did my first wash down. After several weeks of searching I finally got the call to join a yacht in La Spezia. I start on Monday! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you have put into your videos, they have helped me in a massive way. Wishing you all the best for the start of your new journey.
Great video Matt, I understand how you feel and I can relate to all you said. Yachting is a huge sacrifice and it is beyond me how it is possible that after all this years industry is still so hectic in many regards, with huge migrations and extremely poor retention of the crew. One would expect that by now everybody realized that time for time rotation is the only way to work without burning people ... Good luck buddy and keep recording videos because you are great.

Such a legend. Your videos I always wish would have come out back when I was in yachting. Could have helped me out so much in the start. I suffered with 'nothing works' in yachting point when I was in my mid-20's with a kid on the way and deciding how much time and firsts I wanted to miss. That's when I realized it was none. So those two factors combined to the point that I was finished. I later regretted it, but only slightly and thats mainly because money was tight. I wish I would have stayed within the industry somehow. Now all I want to do is try and get back in, but my life has too many restrictions so even that is hard. If you have any passion left for the industry, that is the one thing I suggest you do. Stay connected in some way. Lot's of charter outfits, people looking to get itineraries together, having agents in place for all sorts of things, project manager, yard maintenance manager. Poland obviously has Sunreef and Columbus yachts. They could pay for the knowledge you have in building a yacht on spec. Those are all good things to offer up as skills. Whatever happens, I'll watch. You are highly entertaining, funny, knowledgeable and have a gift with storytelling. Even telling stories about previous trips where you play all the characters along the way would be a huge hit. Even if you do nothing in yachting it's worth it. I had friends that were going to France and Italy and I sent them your video about dock walking and navigating the trains there, to watch. Your gift is your ability to tell the story in the most entertaining way.
I got a job in the boating industry not long after finding your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and being such a pillar of the community!

6:06 ... about 24 years ago now, I was a fully fledge adult who was not quite having a mid-life crisis but not at all happy. A boss who was also my very trusted mentor - handed me a little paperback book. I went into my office with that book (and I think with my lunch as well), put me feet up and didn't come out until I had read it. Not long after (I don't recall the exact time frame) - I was GONE. Lock, Stok & Barrel - not only that job, but that industry and moved half way across the country. That book was called "Who Moved My Cheese". #ChangedMyLife.

I do think you’ll get something from it though, even if just more confirmation you’re doing the right thing for you at this time. (You still have all the training and experience and nothing would prevent you from going back to yachting if you wanted to.)
And it’s not a very long book so it won’t take you much to get through it. I think I read it more than once after that first read - just because I was so convinced it was right in what it was saying and I wanted to be sure I was getting the whole message, haha.
I do think I owe quite a bit to the mentor who handed it to me and recommend it to anyone who is questioning where they are.
Again, I wish you the best - still enjoy watching your old vids when I have time to go back and view them. And I’m sure there are people out there wanting to get into yachting who get a ton out of them. 👍

Ten years is a good stint in a career. It is also quite normal to change careers at some point in your life. Some people will change careers a few times. Spending your early adult years working in yachting can be a huge opportunity for getting yourself in a great financial position for your future life. Start with a good financial plan though and take it seriously. Shoot, if you do it well, you could conceivably retire after ten years! If you want to retire in style, work 15 years in yachting with a proper financial plan.

I’m now well on my way in deck and engineering, on a yacht that gets plenty of sea time so in a year or two I can start getting my OOW courses completed and sit for my OOW 3000.

It is so true about different between continuing in something because you want to or because you feel trapped in it. Transitioning out of things can be hard as many ex military personnel can attest. An exit strategy is probably not the best mind set starting off in any career, but as you make your way in a given career having an eye for a suitable exit strategy is a wise path, unless you are happy to stay somewhere to retirement but even that needs planning. Wishing you very success in whatever you do with your career going forward, and the very best in your personal life. May the future bring everything you wish, because I am sure you will work hard to bring these things to you.

This is quite refreshing to hear. I joined my first yacht in October 2022 at the age of 28. It's private/charter and the season will start in June and end in October.
I'm currently a deckhand and my contract is 11 months on, 1 month off. The only crew members with any kind of real rotation are the Cpt and C/E with 2 on and 2 off.
I'm enjoying my job so far, I'm learning so much about the deck, and I'm definitely far more financially stable since having this job. With that being said, I already feel like yachting is not for me. Spending almost all of your time away from home, family and friends isn't sustainable for me.
Not only that but almost everyone else on this yacht is saying that they see an end to their yachting careers as well (not because of this particular yacht, btw) because of contract times and the difficulties the industry comes with.
I can see myself in this career for 2 or 3, possibly 4 years to gain more money and have a good financial foundation but my passion lies elsewhere. It's a shame because I spent 3 years of my life getting my OOW Unlimited Certificate but it's not worth me being miserable just for the sake of money.
Yachting can be great for your finances, you will have some truly unique experiences that can't be found elsewhere and you will make friends for life. But for me, thus far, the cons outweigh the pros. Then again, in 2 or 3 years' time, I may grow to love this industry! Who knows?

Hello again my friend! You were one of the first to know that in the 2023 season I got the position of Chief officer on 40m+ yacht and I want to say that this season will be a test season for me. I have to decide if I should continue or if it's better to return to the construction industry on the coast. I feel that I am not satisfied with the work on yachts. I have come a long and very successful way in this direction, but it is not quite what I expected. Just like you, I feel that I need to exhale and relax. I just want to leave this comment here for those who aspire to the yachting industry. I started as a sailor 2 years ago when I was 34 years old. Now I'm almost 37 and this is my third season and first time as Chief Officer, but I don't feel happy. Initial motivation evaporated and interest disappeared. This job may not be right for you. Get ready for hard work. Remember that you are trading your life time for money here.

This video has opened a can of worms for me. I’m 30 been a chief officer on numerous 45-55m vessels for the past 2-3 years now and took a long break in winter. About to start the season now on a new gig which I thought I wanted but really I’m not happy, deep down I don’t think I ever have truly been happy in this industry and only the money is what’s kept me going . Trying to find this pay elsewhere isn’t an easy task especially when you’ve been used tax free income for so long.

Hello Glenn. I've watched very little of Below Deck, but I do know that the production team set up scenarios to catch the crew off guard. If there was that much going wrong ordinarily then you'd have to question the competence of the crew. And no, most captains aren't chilling in the bridge all day 😅. Furthermore, there are "real" crew on board that you don't see who keep the yacht running safely behind the scenes.

You are lucky to have been able to start in the yachting industry. It is a fact and correct me if I'm wrong, but not all nationalities can join the industry. I hold my unlimited qualifications and have tried to join but rarely was I given a chance (only in the last year and they have been asking for covid vaccine which I haven't got). In any case, being in the merchant navy, lots of us dream about working on yachts but I can understand how serving customers can be as exhausting as transferring cargo (though we rarely get any complaints!). You work long hours, sometimes not meeting the requirements, it is expected that you are in a good mood even when you're not, plus most of you work on permanent contracts and therefore only go home for about a month per year.
Did you ask yourself if by finding a rotational position you would feel better?
My suggestion is that since you now have management experience (chief mate's sea-time in your seaman's book) you should look into working ashore. Try any ISM compliance roles, crew management (since you've been giving advise over here) or class related roles.

I don't think there was anything that particularly annoyed me. It was great when I was younger, but the lifestyle just doesn't work for me anymore. Living at work became more tiresome as a grew older, and I wanted to pursue other things.

Me considering getting into the industry around 32 after 10 years in a "normal" career and watching this video:....oh no.
Why is it oh no? You've got 3 years until you're 35, and there are plenty of yacht crew here in the comments who started much later than that. If a career in yachting is what you really want, you should go for it!
@@WorkonaSuperyacht I reached the same point in my life when I'm wondering what am I doing with my time really in the office. In short, thanks to this job now, I had the chance to start sailing as a hobby, and in the past 2-3 years that put me in the mindset that I don't belong in the office. I take more pride in a well-polished stainless steel handrail or a well-planned passage that my crew enjoys, than I do in a new product or feature launch working in tech.
However, if I want to be completely honest with myself, I would like to start a family in the next few years, and I'm pretty sure that a career in Yachting is not compatible in any way with that "project", and this is exactly that you mention as well in the video as kind of a breaking point. So I feel have to get the priorities straight if I want to take pride and joy in my work or be "stable".
Can you join a deck Dept on a cruise ship?
Yes, I believe you can; however, I don't have any knowledge of getting started on cruise ships.
There is only so much time on the clock no sense in spending it doing something you dont like doing.

Always do whatever you love, the money is pointless when you don't have the friends, family, freedom of choice and time to enjoy it and many people get stuck in a career they hate fearing to make the change themselves. Again well done for taking that leap of faith in yourself.
It's hard to leave an industry that is looked upon as the pinnacle of success having been there myself as you know.
As your priorities change and you develop, change is inevitable.

Question: you should tell us stuff that you may not have wanted to say before when you were still in the industry. And also how much tips did you make on average for a charter? And how long was the charter? And how many charters did you get on average during a three month season, or whatever? Stuff like that would also be cool.
