I'm a Combat Veteran (8 years) and a former Peace Officer (8 years) looking to move to Texas. I am considering Lubbock. I live near the Bay Area in California, trying to escape the too-progressive environment. I have three kids and a wife, and I want them to be safe. I love California. We got mountains, snow, deserts, forests, etc. The politics, however, is what sucks about here, and they seem pro-crime. I'm 37. Loved the podcast, by the way! Pretty insightful.
My daughter and I lived in Lubbockn for almost 3yrs...I love this City because it's so safe and less crime in this City..hopefully.we will stay here more years..its accessible to everywhere..it's near to AMARILLO and 5hrs drive to Dallas and Austin..
Lived in Lubbock 6 years and I always think it’s funny how it’s a “dangerous” city. Had to move due to work but would move back in a heart beat if I had the Chance
I live in lubbock. I'm leaving next week, moving to tarrant county (Arlington,tx). Lubbock is a great county to raise a family. But I'm leaving lubbock because there's not alot of opportunities here and i feel stuck here. But on another note, if you're thinking about moving here: the best areas will be the milwaukee area(nice homes and shopping centers), lake ridge, and anything above 82nd street. Lubbock is building more homes out towards the resse center area. 98th street and up have some awesome homes. Stay away from east lubbock and avenue Q a bunch of sketchness go on in those areas. East 19th street horrible area to drive, city of lubbock need to fix that street Asap they been having construction there for a year now. I have to drive there because theres two SPC campuses right there on Q. HEB is on 114th and quaker some visitors come here and cant find the HEB. Alot of people are polite here and always willing to help or answer questions.
43:20 although a lot of it wasn't filmed in west texas, i highly recommend the movie hell or high water. it's based in west texas and it's one of my favorite movies in recent memory.

Yes! Love long form podcasts, this was too funny. I’m curious about that cassette tape collection. I’ll be bringing some Beatles paraphernalia, a decent sized record collection, and a couple of 8-tracks myself!

It’s crazy cause you could be on one side of Q and the other side would be a bad area. Lubbock is a mixing pot. There’s all kinds of good and bad areas. Stay away from Lowry Field. I’ve heard when they made Overton area. All those people went over to the Lowery Field.
