I ended up making a very similar sewing frame myself. I ended up using just 1 inch metal threaded rod and bolts rather than wood screws (since I don't have a tap and die set). I also added the hanging eye bolts as well. It is a lot easier to get each cord the same that way. A sewing frame makes sewing up a book so much easier and I highly recommend it for someone getting into book binding.
This bookbinding series is very inspiring. I've wanted to make my own notebook for fun for a while, and now I wanna make these tools to make my notebooks.
i AM LOVING THIS SERIES
I am LOVING this bookbinding series!
Another awesome tool and really so simple. I am totally in love with the wooden screws you make, that is just such authentic woodwork to me. But love all the things you make
So beautiful- the tap and die lessons have been a real game changer thank you!
Thanks, I love this channel 😎
Thanks, nice to hear!
Way cool! Old style is always best!
Lynn, you do beautiful work, you make interesting things, and you always cheer me up. Thanks!
Everything i ever needed was in this video
Really beautiful work, Linn! Amazing how those things look! 😃
But if I may... Now you need to build a small box... To keep all the small brass pieces! 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Haha, agreed.... you need a box for everything!
Thanks so much for this video! I’ve been looking for a sewing frame tutorial for a while and this is extremely helpful! I’ve been really excited for this bookbinding series ever since you first mentioned it and have been loving the other videos in this series.
Thanks again for sharing!
Very informative video! Thanks a lot from Germany
Thanks Michael!
This has been just so interesting! I have just made two threaded bolts and two nuts to make my sewing frame. They are still very greasy, even after rubbing, wiping, and letting them sitting in the sun (not sure why I did that). What do you do to prevent the oil from getting on your fingers and transferring it to the pages you are trying to sew. Does that Beeswax polish you talk about seal the oil in to prevent seeping onto everything? And I want to thank you for all your wonderful videos! They are fascinating!
Interesting homemade tool. We shared this video in our homemade tools forum this week :)
So amazing. Well demonstrated.
Wow it looks pretty cool 😋👍
Another good looking project.
Fantastic!! Really enjoyed it..
Wow, nice job. The Tap and Die set is no longer available. What a bummer.
Sorry, I found one at Woodcraft. As a woodworker I'll build this. I'm a bookbinder as well. Thanks.
Amazingly done 😃
Those wooden screws would be nice for a classic cider press when apples are ripe this Fall.
For those of us without a functioning wood lathe, how would you recommend getting good quality oak dowels for a project like this? The brick-and-mortar shops around here don't carry oak dowels and the dimensions on what they do carry are rather inconsistent.
It is very interesting to me. I have a number of old texts that could use rebinding. But they do not appear to have signatures. Can you point me to information on how to proceed? Thanks.
Great!!!
The thread you are using, it looks like tufting twine that I use for buttons on upholstery. Is it the same thing?
Where to get those bolt with wing nuts
1000th like on the video :D
Could I order one of these from you?
If you use a single cord in a zigzag configuration, all of the strands will have equal tension.
The wood tap & dies must've become illegal in the US because either no one has them in stock or they are listed as discontinued...lol
Hi Lynne, I did not find this interesting; I found it fascinating, it is a dying art that has been taken over by cost cutting measures and technology.
Linn I am really enjoying this book binding series. I'm learning so much about old school binding. I've thought about trying my hand at binding for a note book or diary.
Keep the great videos coming
Thanks for sharing and God bless
Thanks Roy! You should give it a go, it's a lot of fun.
So your name is NOT Darbin Orvar?
There's an early video in which Linn explains that the channel is named after her dog Darwin. Though, I have noticed over the years that quite a few people think Linn's name is Darbin.
