I love how he talked shit about the coke "conspiracy theorists", saying its weird to think they fabricated the switch to make more money. Then the next part of the video solidifies the theories that they bait & switched the sugar used in the formula to a cheaper one while still calling it coke classic. If the changed it to that before "new coke", they wouldve got so much shit for it, but since they convinced people they "went back" to the old formula, theyre fine with the change or theyre just not aware of it. That's definitely something a company like Coke would do
I thought that the coke "conspiracy theorists" were talking about a larger scheme to change coke based on government regulation. That the change was not related to sales or business practices made by coke itself, but rather a restriction on certain ingredients made by the government and kept secret, hence the "conspiracy". I believe that their argument wasn't about whether or not coke changed its flavor, but why it changed its flavor. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Why put "conspiracy theorist" in quotes? It is still technically conspiracy theory (theorizing that Coke conspired to do something) even if it is a believable/credible thing to criticize.

Pepsi tastes... sweeter and more artificial? Hard to describe it in words, but Coke has this like bold, balanced taste while Pepsi tastes overbearing and really sugary. Leaves your mouth and teeth dry.

As a Chocolate Milk Enjoyer I find this little squabble of which tooth-eroding, stomach-inflating acid of a drink is better quite amusing.
The Chocolate Milk here in Norway is the apotheosis of supreme taste. Its got all you need, raw fucking KiloJoules, a nice bit of sugar, a splendid pH, the protein required for muscle growth, bone-enhancing calcium, the essential Riboflavin in addition to a dab of tasty iodine.
It truly is the Divine Drink, the Heavenly Beverage, the ultimate drinking experience.

@@kasperfma ah, oboy is fine. The best chocolate milk is called "Q Fersk Sjokolademelk" or Q-milk for short.
Even the carton itself is higher quality than say Litago. Its insane, a few years ago they had some shitty, seethrough plastic on the side that made the milk quite susceptible to contamination snd lowered its shelflife. But when Q-milk changed it, i tried it and holy...the taste is insane.
Americans dont get this kinda high quality chocolate milk...poor americans with their shit regulations on food

Coca Cola later took the NEW Coke formula - replaced the High Fructose Corn-Syrup (HFCS) with Aspartame and called it Coke Light replacing the old Coke Light...
So Coke Classic and Coke Light are not the same formula - one is classic and one is NEW...
That is why we today also have Coke Zero - which is the Coke Classic formula just with the HFCS replaced with Aspartame...

Actually Pepsi puts more citric acid in their drink so most people experience the lemon taste with Pepsi. Coke has a more cinnamon vanilla flavor.

Its so fascinating seeing how smart and dumb felix can be simultaneously, he instantly figures out that introducing novelty will get a percentage of the consumers to enjoy the novelty and then be more willing to change brands for a new novelty. Thats not something that's immediately obvious but felix figures it out in a split second. And yet when they say the people of the time preferred the sweet taste of Pepsi his brain cant understand that the formula and tastes of both drinks was different 40 years ago. He cant imagine a world where coke doesn't taste exactly how it does today, but can grasp high concepts about consumers and brands. Its so strange ! Im constantly impressed by his intelligence and disappointed by his idiocy, its a very unique brain.
He also thinks people lived shorter lives only 50 years ago. This man is a fountain of idiocy with sprinkles of genius. People have lived the same length we do for as far back as you can realistically imagine, they only have shorter average lives due to lifestyle and disease. We are actually declining in average life now because of the cancerous world we live in, plastic in your drinking water and sugar in everything, a "healthy" human today will live considerably shorter lives than a healthy human 1000 years ago ! Minus disease and war. Its just beneficial to think that we are getting healthier so they can sell more health products, but its the complete opposite.

The new Coke formula was rolled out to try and fix declining Coka Cola sales. People thought they wanted Pepsi when it's sales almost surpassed Coke, and the only thing that made them change their minds was when the recipe was changed for a while. Now all of a sudden they all wanted the original back. Then when it came back, sales went way up for literally no reason. That was his point, and he's right in that respect. We're partially controlled by marketing because there's a subconscious in our brains we can't control. We don't know what we want.

I don't understand what that sentence is supposed to say 😅. Second of all I just don't agree with that the public doesn't know what they want. Of course advertisement is a big part in if a product will succeed because you want people to know your product is out there, but if the product sticks ultimately just comes down to if it tastes good in this case. If the public would just gobble up anything a company gave them, not a single product would fail. So I don't see where the narrative of the public doesn't know what they want comes from

If people loved Coke so much more then why did Pepsi and Coke almost have equal sales for a while? It's because Coke had grown complacent, and thought they would never have to innovate to get people to buy their product. But they were wrong. People don't just buy for "taste", they buy with their eyes and ears as well. And I'll fix my sentence.
@@mementomori2839 yes, there is more to a product than taste, i probably shouldnt have said it like that. even if you add more variables to it, say complacency, branding image, good marketing and visuals, I still don't see how the statement, "the public doesn't know what they want" makes sense. Even if a lot of choices are made unconsciously, that's all just a factor in what the public 'wants'. This point is probably gonna come down to what we define as 'want'. Is wanting something that has to be decided completely consciously? In that case I guess you could say that the public doesn't know what it wants, since it doesn't make that decision consciously. But wanting something is never something conscious, in any scenario. What I hear when someone says "the public doesn't know what they want" is that big companies decide for the public what they want by just bringing something new out, and the public gobbles it up without thinking twice about if it's actually something they like. The video perfectly illustrates that that's completely false. if my interpretation is the right one, it just doesn't make sense, and your interpretation is in my opinion kind of irrelevant.

It's common practice to reiterate that in marketing and advertisement departments. "People don't know what they want, and it's our goal to show them what they want". My mother was the top saleswoman in he real estate agency, selling the same vacation packages to the same clientele as her peers, and she sold more. How? She MADE people want the packages that they didn't need or want to begin with. So harp on all you like about it being my opinion or not, but I was literally lectured about the same exact subject, on how our brains absorb advertisements all day whether we WANT them or not. Our opinions, wants, dislikes etc are majorly affected by things that aren't even in our control. Bring some guy from the 1800s into the present time and ask him if he wants a Coke or Pepsi. He won't right away, but he will after he's absorbed enough advertisements.
I can definitly tell the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi, and the i can distinguish canned Coca Cola, bottle Coca Cola and tap Coca Cola (which is the best prove me wrong); cant telle difference between canned and bottled Pepsi tho cause i almost never drink it

They changed the recipe for Pepsi now when 2022 hit, no announcement or anything I just noticed after xmas that it tasted shit and I thought it was cause I had covid. Checked a old can and a new can and you can see they added fake sugar to regular Pepsi, now I only drink coke or cheaper brands. Its sad cause I enjoyed Pepsi more than Coke sometimes.
