  • Presented by Tim Alderton, Research Technician, JC Raulston Arboretum on August 6, 2024.
It's hot out, y'all! And as much fun as it would be to take you through the garden and show off all our spectacular sun-loving plants, something tells us it may be infinitely more pleasant to have a look at some of our wonderful plants growing in the shade. Just a thought. Beat the heat and join us for this Plant-lover's Tour where our Research Technician, Tim Alderton, will chauffeur you through the shady spots in our garden and spotlight some of our most striking shade-loving plants!
    Plant list:
    Sinningia eumorpha
    Cyclamen purpurascens
    Piper kadsura ‘Pied Piper’
    Arachnoides standishii
    Asarum maximum ‘Ling Ling’
    Aspidistra ebianensis ‘Flowing Fountains’
    Coniogramme intermedia ‘Yoroi Musha’
    Amorphophallus kiusianus
Trachycarpus princeps x T. fortunei ‘Wagnerianus’
    Trachycarpus fortunei ‘Wagnerianus’
    Mahonia gracilipes
    Amorphophallus konjac
    Chloranthus japonicus
    Begonia grandis ‘Pink Teardrops’
Tim sat on his microphone during his presentation and turned it off; this recording represents only about half of the plants covered during Tim’s Shade-lover’s Tour. We hold Plant-lover’s Tours on the first Tuesday of every month. Be sure to check our events calendar so you can join us live for the next one!

Despite protection, I lost my "Angels Earrings" Fushcia in north Georgia 2 winters ago. The ones I've found haven't been nearly as tough. I love my shade plants, especially my natives.

Just did a search on the sinningia eumorpha; more than one cultivar out there. Not much for sale. Do you know exactly which cultivar this is please?

We list the cultivar names in the plant list and in the inserts that pop up when the plant is shown. It's just straight species S. eumorpha.
