You're not just knowledgeable and a terrific presenter, but you're sweet and conscientious, too! The typewriters that land in your collection, even just for a short time, are fortunate. Even more so are those who receive those typewriters from you.

Some lovely (and thoughtful) insights in this, Sarah. And your thinking has already rubbed off on me; I gave my buddy in Brooklyn a nice 1956 Smith-Corona Super (from Canada) last summer. He hasn’t had chance to use it much, but it seems his 5-year old daughter is enthralled.
    🙂

Wow! I'm jealous! I believe that is the twin of the Brother XL500 and with JP-1 workings... absolutely AMAZING typewriter and one that you can really go crazy on with no issues ❤ I hope your friend appreciates what a gem of a typewriter you sent him. It's truly one of the ones I immediately reference if someone asks me, "What's a great first typewriter to get started on, but also not a toy or a piece of junk" I always reference a typewriter with the JP1 guts.

Grommets for your ribboncovers. They have them at hardware stores for under a dollar.

I recall the stress of packaging up 2 Barbie typewriters and a cup and saucer from the UK to the US.
Thankfully it was less complicated than sending what you’d call a ‘normal’ typewriter.
I too have skimmed my collection and I am down to three.
    All Olympias.
    I do still a 2 unicorns items.
    🔲Vogue typeface Royal P
🔲 Olympia SM7 in Blue or white (no green keys).
If anyone would like to ship one to me using Sarah advice - I wouldn’t say no 😂

Hey, you should really check out Typewriter Justice on RUclips. He has several great typewriter shipping vids. The only thing you are getting wrong is locking the carriage when shipping. NEVER lock the carriage! Why? Because when the box is dropped, used as a rugby ball, or thrown across a warehouse, no amount of bubble wrap is going to prevent the millimeter's worth of jarring that it takes to break a tooth on the carriage. The important thing is to make sure the carriage is UNlocked, and then to wrap the hell out of the machine with bubble wrap (Justice uses Saran wrap first) to prevent the motion that might damage the platen knobs, etc. Just watch his shipping vids and you'll see, he explains it far better than I do.

What a lot of effort you put into this. Such detail and creating the instruction manual. A true friend. Your thoughts on antiques and older equipment I totally agree with. Sadly I don't have mechanical skills myself but I love to preserve things in whatever way I can. It's why even after the evolution of home computers I still have my original typewriter (that I got in the 80s) and always found a use for it. Having terrible handwriting it was great for writing letters and filling out forms. Although I used some electric typewriters in school I have never owned one and so am looking into it. I love your passion and it comes through in your content. Thanks for another great video.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again - love hearing you talk about typewriters on Saturday mornings! Thanks for the time and effort you put into this! I hope that things are going well at the College/University. First year teaching can be challenging!

Love this. I have slowed down my collecting and we are about to move into our brand new home so I will probably be downsizing my collection. I’m also a writer so I love you sent this to a writer. I’m currently writing a novel totally on a typewriter. I have my college typewriter and a few others I’m attached to 😊 Love your videos❤️

@@JustMyTypewriter Ok, here are some ideas. Typewriter history and evolution: Create an educational series covering the history of typewriters, their inventors, and the evolution of various typewriter models over time. Include interesting facts and anecdotes. Typing challenges: Invite other typewriter enthusiasts or even novices to participate in typing challenges on various typewriter models. Record their experiences and reactions as they attempt to type quickly and accurately. This one I love, typewriter art: Demonstrate how to create typewriter art using different typewriter models, fonts, and techniques. This can include creating pictures, designs, or even poetry. You have plenty of typewriters now to compare - Typewriter comparison: Compare various typewriter models, brands, or eras in a head-to-head format. Discuss the differences in design, functionality, and overall performance. This one you have to take apart some old typewriters - Typewriter-inspired crafts and DIY projects: Demonstrate how to repurpose typewriter parts or create typewriter-inspired crafts, such as jewelry, home decor, or furniture. Like the Disney trip - Traveling with typewriters: Visit historical sites, museums, or antique shops related to typewriters and document your adventures as you explore the world of typewriters outside your workshop. This one would be fun to do. Interviews with typewriter collectors and enthusiasts: Connect with other typewriter enthusiasts and collectors, and conduct interviews about their collections, experiences, and stories related to typewriters. This will help build a sense of community and provide valuable insights to your viewers. :)
