It's not too bad, just a bit fiddly to get it all lined up correctly. I bought about 200 little alligator clips when I did the headliner; definitely made it easier.
You're right, it's amazing how simple it seems on the surface, but the whole system is complex and it takes a bit of effort to put everything in correctly. Going with Mustangs to Fear headliner?

Thanks! Luckily the car is straight so everything lined up pretty well. Would have been a nightmare otherwise.
I have most of the peices for my car. I think I'm going to install them this winter. Headliner is fun but best done with windows out.

It’s definitely finicky. I’m just going with the OEM style “moon surface” textured headliner.
