Time to put this Spider-Man vs. Venom statue together! This is probably the most challenging statue assembly I've ever had to experience. Lots of small intricate pieces that require a specific order. Took a while to figure out where everything went. But despite the difficult assembly and a few broken pieces, this is an amazing statue.

Not bad on pressure parameters broken
As cool as some of these custom statues can be, one thing that holds me back from pulling the trigger on buying one is the lack of quality control when compared to a licensed statue. I mean if I’m spending at least a thousand dollars on a statue, I shouldn’t expect to have to use a blow dryer/heater to help a piece fit into a peg, or feel like I have to tiptoe around the statue in fear of a piece falling and breaking. With that being said, I love the concept and look of this statue. Great review DT!
I hear you! We can only wish for better quality control, both with custom and licensed pieces. I've run into similar problems regardless. It just depends on what factory was used and who was working on any particular day. The thing that keeps me coming back to customs is their uniqueness. This was a pretty ambitious piece. And with all the complexities, there were a lot of opportunities for things to go wrong. This was not a plug the foot in the base, stick on some arms and head and call it a day kind of statue. So I'm willing to take a little imperfection. For the most part, things fit together pretty well. But using a few tricks of the trade, can certainly make it a little more stable should you have kids, earthquakes or animals running around your house. 😁
this is my favorite statue, I bought this on the second hand market and the 2nd box came in mostly broken, it was a nightmare to glue everything together but fortunately easy to paint. but still I was not offered any replacement parts and the seller wasnt cooperative about any damage payment.
Ah man! Sorry to hear about the damage. It's always tricky in the 2nd hand market, even with licensed pieces. Your fate is pretty much in the hands of the reseller. It helps to know how to fix things yourself. I need to take some statue painting classes!
@@DTsGEEKSHOW Thanks for the response! yeah fortunately Venom is uses a black paint. which blends in very easily with the gloss. I cant see the damages from afar, but I had end up gluing a lot of pieces that the magnet didnt lock in. I really love this video! Thanks for making this!

I'm only a casual fan of Spider-Man but this one is impressive. The effects on how the symbiote is alive is uncanny
Definitely something new and different which is what drew me to this piece. Feels a lot like good comic art come to life.

The real hero of this project is the commissioner/art director,Caleb nefzen can make aweosome sculpts,but without a commisionor/art director it would not have made it into.real life
Agreed. This was a very ambitious project and I think the end product came out splendidly. The whole team should be commended. The only one I would leave out is the delivery company.

This one was from Todd at SpecFiction. I think he had a stock of a few extra when they came in and I snagged one. I saw some people selling theirs as well, not wanting to deal with assembling it.
That statue is my favorite of Spider-Man statues
Definitely a unique piece. I've got a monster of a Spidey statue on order that may take the cake. But we'll have to see how that one comes out.

IT LOOKS GREAT, BUT THE ENGINEERING NOT SO GREAT. THEY SHOULD MAKE A POLE ON HOW MANY PIECES ACTUALY MADE IT, AND WERE PUT TOGETHER. WITHOUT ANY BREAKAGES. SO FAR EVERY REVIEW I HAVE SEEN. NOT A ONE. 👊🏽🤔😮
The engineering isn't too bad. I was actually very impressed with all the points of contact on Spidey. There were some slight fitment issues as you saw and weak magnets in places. But overall pretty good. As for breakages, yes, a lot of pieces equals a lot of chances for things to get broken. Had my fingers crossed the entire time I was unpacking this thing. I saw some packages that were worse off. So I guess I shouldn't complain too much. I don't envy the folks that have to design packing for this kind of stuff. Thank goodness for Zap-A-Gap!

Nice statue, but if you barely bump a table its on, it looks like it'll fall apart like a Jenga puzzle.
There are only a couple parts that concern me for a small bump. Others I would definitely remove before moving the statue. I picked up some Blu-Tack to make things a little more secure. That's what they use to hold the protypes together before they have magnets. Works pretty well for situations like these.

This is the best spidey / venom statue ever. Sucks about the breakage. I’m not a fan of these foam containers. Wish they use styrofoam instead.
Yes, the white foam is much more protective. But I imagine it is much more costly and would have resulted in 3 big boxes.
How are these things legal when they're unlicensed? Wouldn't Disney have something to say? Not a statue collector so not sure how these things work.
Unlicensed statues are subject to copyright infringement claims like anything else. If a company wanted to sue, they could and would probably win. These statues are usually made with small edition sizes. A big lawsuit is probably more trouble than it’s worth. The ones that have the biggest issue with it are the companies with the license who mass produce statues and see it cutting into their profits. I think the actual IP holders don’t mind because it keeps the fans happy and they can easily distance themselves if there is any controversy with the piece. Nobody seems to have issues with 2D art commissions. Comic companies know it’s part of the game and good for the hobby. I think it’s all good for us collectors. The more options the better. I will always go the licensed route first. But if someone makes something like this, they have my attention.
