I'm so happy that I recently search up the fate sound track.. I honestly didn't expect someone to review of my favorite childhood games in this day and age. I might pick this game up sometime again. Just to wind down and play a chill game. Nostalgia really hits hard 13 years later lol
I plan to go through all of them, and then finally the sort of compilation that released at the end - just haven't had time :) - they're fun games, even if the stories lack depth, the gameplay is solid.
I remember playing this game on my dad's pc me and my little brother were so scared of going into the dungeon especially level 4 and up mainly because of the monsters and the ones that traumatized me the most was the yeti and the mimics, the story is kinda forgettable but the amount of weapons, spells, monsters and features is honestly amazing its almost as if the developers were mythical creature fanatics
It is fun to go back to old games - ones that require planning always seem to get easier to me, while ones that require reflexes (glaring at you battletoads) get harder lol
If you're going to buy it today (which is worth playing if you care about the history of ARPG's), buy the Traitor Soul. Steam has fixed it so it runs on modern PC's, and includes the first three games in the series (different towns through different portals).
I played Fate for the first time in 2005 because my mother had the demo preinstalled on her new Laptop that she got. I was starting to get into medieval fantasy at that time and having a Dungeon fantasy game was really cool, sadly the PC broke and I couldn't remember the name of the game and buy it later, so I had to wait a long time until it was on sale on steam, to get it.
Oddly enough have heard that story for Fate a few times :) - the amount of places it spread with that Windows WildTangent integration still amazes me (I played it around that time, but my upgrade schedule for systems literally flanked that time period, so I never had it as a default install)
when I was in the army in 07 I graduated boot camp and bought the best laptop I could at the PX ( it had windows vista ) anyways it came with this game installed on some free trial or something and I tried beating it in the 2 hours I could play it.
It really is a fun game to blow some steam in - and weirdly one I would absolutely recommend any Torchlight fan play - it's amazing how many things it influenced in that franchise (not surprising though, since the Fate creator was one of the co-designers of Torchlight)
I just bought 1 to 4 of Fate yesterday. I was also going to buy grim dawn, but changed my mind. there is path exile and torch light and which one is the best for you? what are your rankings for this type of game?
hmmm... Grim Dawn is actually a really solid aRPG (lengthwise it is one of the longer ones if you have the DLC - which are proper expansions with the exception of crucible) - though since I find post-game boring as heck, I personally prefer torchlight over Path of Exile - PoE has just become annoying to "jump into" (it is free to play though, so you can't beat the price, and the story is "fine") As far as rankings, still working on that for aRPGs overall, been trying to dive into some more esoteric stuff lately over on the Game Sampler Channel (spreading it out a bit though since it's a b-reel channel, not an arpg channel lol)

Fate was the game that introduced me to de genre. Thanks for the memories!
They're making a remaster of all four games for Steam!
Why shouldn’t you buy Fate in 2023 it’s still the best game despite being old

same feelings till i grow up and decided to play the game more
back then i was scared from monsters and the ost was creepy (making me scare more)
I came back just to utterly destroy my beloved childhood game, just like I do to all games now. I must become the most powerful being.

I loved this game growing up. This and RuneScape. What modern games would most closely compare to Fate and RuneScape?
Your pet has departed

One should always buy and play Fate religiously
Fate is a really awesome game and I like torchlight too
I played this yesterday. I played for 8 hours straight and thought I only played 2. This game is addicting
I love fate. this was my first pc game that my older brother let me play. I was the one to introduce him into this game lol

I’m not sure if I’ll get it in 2023 but I remember playing this on an old pc looks really fun though!
You must choose your fate
How do you unretire?
