Maplestory was my jam growing up. God, I wish I didn't have to worry about adult things like bills, rent, groceries, and car payments. All I want to worry about is when my friend would come to spend the night so we could play Maplestory together.
I mean there is story, it get's goofy at times, but it is there, and really every MMO is built on "grind forever". Purely because they need to keep you playing once you reach the end game, otherwise the game dies quickly. It's also why new MMOs tend to have quests that purposefully slow you down like "kill 500 Orange Mushrooms"(a legit early life Quest in Maplestory that has now been moved to just a sub-side-quest) is because they know they don't have much end game content so they need to slow down the players who are trying to rush for it.
@@Stephen__White City of Heroes wasn't. Its endgame, for most of its run, was "make a new character in one of the other... 14 or so classes" (I think it started off with 6 hero classes, then they added another six villain classes, and three prestige classes). Each class had a variety of primary and secondary power sets to choose from, and they started off with something like 8 of each for each of the original classes (mind you, several different classes with a "fire" based power set, while the Sets were unique, would have some individual powers that overlapped), and I think they'd more than tripled that by the time it shut down... Actually, it was probably closer to 100 powersets all up... not counting the various smaller sets you collected by doing specific stuff in game or that were accessable to Every class (though, importantly, you only got so many Powers over the course of the game, so the Different sets were kind of competing with each other...). Oh, and your character had an Origin as well (for hero classes, things got changed around a bit sometimes), which dictated which of 5 story arcs you started on... Each of which then split in two for the next arc (though i believe that each branch merged sith a branch from a different origin so there were still only five), then they split again... Then they added more and more and more of these arcs to every stage of the fame. You outleveled them mechanically long before you could complete everything you had access to with a given character, and you never had access to everything.... So, yeah. Endgame was "start a new character with completely new abilities to do completely different story arcs. Its music was... Lacking though. Substantial chunk ofog the map didn't even have any, just to start with.
Maplestory is that game I play whenever I want to turn off my brain and just walk around with a quest telling me "go kill a million of these things" and then do so by pressing a few buttons seeing the whole screen flash with massive damage numbers as I summon black holes and dragons and whatever else to wipe a screen full of enemies. Its great fun when you just want to sit back and relax. It's kind of like a clicker game just with a bit more to it. Fun visuals, dumb fun story if you wanna read it, and obviously good music. Don't expect anything super In depth though, except for maybe the raids, never done one myself. The progression of the classes and variety makes it fun for me, just seeing you go from smacking snails to blowing up an entire screen and seeing your character become over powered is just satisfying, if you don't mind the brain-dead process it takes to get there.
I don't know if that's a good idea bro. I still play it to this day, and let's just say that the game is totally different from what it was, and it also has one of the worst pay to win systems (in order to become strong without grinding for at least 2 years, you have to pay for some items from the cash shop). If you don't really care about it, then go for it, you might even enjoy it like I do. On what world did you play?
if you play on a world outside of reboot then it'll be quite difficult to progress fairly well without money. on reboot it is pure grind with almost zero money required.
There are modded clients out there that actually that have the classic game content and servers hosted online, playable via a modded client or something, and it's interesting... but I'm not sure which one is the best and safest to choose to experience in 2021. You would naturally want to choose the one with the most amount of active players and all the content in there from just before the time when people said that it all started to go downhill (not sure about the details myself).
Maple Story music is amazing, other games and MMOs I've played recently like FFXIV, their music just doesn't hit or stick like Maple Story did. Wish I could of appreciated the music more when I was playing it as a kid.
There's a joke in Korea where MapleStory music is good only because their predatory monetization practices all go into their music team. As much as I absolutely despise the game and what it has become, the newer soundtracks all still hold up and I still stand by the notion that MapleStory's soundtracks are some of the best in the video game scene.

Ah maplestory, it was my childhood. So many great memories and good songs.
Whew, throwback hard af. Still listen to the ost to this day.
Yeaaaaaah, Maplestory music do be boppin'. Too bad the MMO itself is of the "Grind Forever" variety.

Still super fun though. God I have been away from it too long again. I come back to the game for like 3 weeks then leave for years XD Every time.
@@PsychoDiesel48 Same. Pretty sure that's the quintessential Maplestory experience.
