My sweet beautiful doby has a floppy ear and I don’t think he minds it… we all love him to bits
They don’t mind either way.
All our doberman in the UK have floppy ears, ear docking is illegal here, so it's quite normal here for floppy ears
@@aidenfielding9709yeah I mean I got him 8 months old he was already cropped and didn’t like having his ears posted, so one is up and the other is down now
Gonna go give him a hug, poor doggo
@@aidenfielding9709which is weird considering it's a less invasive procedure than spay/neuter
@@hello-ef4bn yeah I think it's because its entirely for aesthetics, and deemed an unnecessary mutilation of the dog, which alot of people took it upon themselves to do at home and often caused harm to the dog etc, spaying and neutering has a purpose whereas ear cropping doesn't real serve any purpose other than to look cool or scary, i believe working dogs and service dogs are allowed to, but by a vet under these special circumstances where it's deemed a necessity to prevent the dog from becoming injured etc
Ear cropping Is forbidden in Italy since 2010. Here all dobermann have long tails and floppy ears. They seem lesser scary bu they are not. The same for Cane Corso and any other dog.
Same in the UK. We don't mutilate our dogs for fashion.
I can read Milo's mood by watching his tail. He's a big European Line (104 pounds) Doberman. An intact 2.5 year old male. If his tail is erect, curving over his back like a question mark, he's focused and alert. Wagging is self explanatory, but he rotates it in a circular fashion, he's searching or hunting for something... usually his tennis ball . We call it his " helicopter" tail.
That’s what’s up
@@ericgrace9995but do you mutilate dogs for convenience?
if you neuter or spay, you do. the procedure is even more invasive and only serves for human convenience so we don't have to ensure our dogs don't escape.
@@hello-ef4bn Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't people fix their animals because it significantly decreases their risk of cancer and other disorders?
@@eponawarrior7492yes they do generally, plus it also means that they dont accidentally create offspring that can't be cared for or that won't be rehomed. There's already too many dogs, and dogs won't stop like humans can because they're instinct driven. Same goes for cats.
Wiw i wondered how the ears stood up, cropping ears and tail docking is banned in Australia as they deem it unnecessary
It originated with their role as guard dogs; if someone tried to attack them or the person they were protecting, docked tails and cropped ears gave their attacker less to grab on to and reduced the chance of the dog being hurt or killed. It was for their wellbeing back then; now, for 99% of such animals, it's like circumcision: a completely unnecessary, painful procedure for the sake of aesthetics and/or just because it's what's done.
They hold them up after they crop them
Why even cut the ears???
Why worry about things that have nothing to do with you ?
@@Keefer24 You don't have anything to do with me, yet I still know it's wrong for someone to cut half of your ears off.

They go lame as it cuts off the claw from the first knuckle.
Doccing horses tails is wrong.
They can no longer swat flies away causing skin infections.
Doccing a dogs ears can cause infection as they no longer have the protection of a full ear.
They also lose the ability to signal to other dogs with body language.
No tail to signal with and ears are to short to do much with.
He shouldn't of had his ears cropped at all, they are both supposed to be floppy. It's a criminal offense here thankfully as is tail docking and cat declawing.
That is the owners opinion not urs and they originally were bred by Louis Doberman in Germany (tax collector sorry if name is wrong) and their ears were cropped for their well being as long as there tails
Why are people trying to "fix" these things. Just let his ears be. Let dogs be what they were born to be.
They would be if not for breeding that caused them to have floppy ears
Yes let dogs be what they were born to be. Like English bulldogs that were bred to be unhealthy, flat faced with breathing problems and a short lifespan… but it’s okay because they were born that way…
I don’t think most people understand the history of dogs tbh to be making ignorant comments… everyone up in arms about things like cropping need to understand dogs were historically bred for human companionship and usage in certain capacity and now you have some deformed breeds that we all love but because they’re born that way it’s okay… why are we not fixing the genetics and health issues of other dogs? Why are you not up in arms about that… English bulldogs need a c section every time they give birth because they can’t do it naturally…
@@isaac3denI agree
I hate that people cut dogs ears just for looks. My Doberman had normal ears and looked great
It’s just a little snip to shape the ears. It’s not like it does any real damage to the dog. It looks super cool to me.

@kiya2586 do you have any idea how it is preformed? Just as any procedure it's done under anesthetic and they are medicated. Believe me if it hurt them you would know.
@kiya2586 it doesn't hurt the dog. In fact while normally I'd agree its pointless, the reason they do this with Dobermans is because they're protection dogs.
Their ears become a liability and could end up resulting it being used against them, that's why they cropped their ears.
It does no damage nor harm to the dog and is infact saving the dog's life in doing so
Leave it be brother.
It gives Bruno a whole lot of personality

Just to be clear, in every part of the civilised western world, with the exception of the USA, ear cropping is a criminal offence of unspeakable animal cruelty, punishable by up to 2 years in prison and an unlimited fine.
And in most places free speech doesn't exist or the right to bear arms that is because America is one of the best places on earth if not the best and because other places suck does not make America any worse 😊

Why crop his ears in the first place
Cropping dog ears for aesthetics is 💀 but I know they crop livestock guardians for a good reason since predators can bite their ears off
Croping a dog's ear is damaging to the dog it affects the dog's ear the ear is a sensitive part of his body don't mess with nature.
Could also be for infection prevention.

Bruno is adorable with a floppy ear.
Yup. No reason it needs "fixing"
I would never crop ears or tails on a dog. My next breed will probably be a beautiful Doberman and I own huskies at the moment. I just don’t see much benefit to it for the dog and it’s probably very painful.
It’s actually not painful because the nerve endings are t formed yet
Nothing wrong with floppy ears. If the dog isn't guarding/hunting/etc and us just a pet, it's absolutely unnecessary. They need to lax on the breed "standards" for their appearances because it makes average dog owners care about the wrong thing. The standards are for the look-at-me owners not the dog.
Ear cropping or tail docking. Yet another human interference to make dogs look (apparently) more 'aesthetically' pleasing. 😢
It’s not always for the ascetics it can be for working and the dogs wellbeing
Is there any reason to crop ears other than intimidation? I have a Doberman with normal ears
They're cropped to meet standard, or for working.
You should do research on your chosen breed to understand more about them.
Dobermans have a real problem with DCM, please learn everything you can in order to help your dog live as long as possible.
No, its only for looks. Dont get scared by
@RRW_HomeGrown.Keto.Cookin he is just trolling. Just ask your vet next time you visit he will tell you the same I said.
It used to be to prevent injury in working dogs, but in cases where the doberman is just a pet, it's just for intimidation. Or if they want to make money off em putting them in shows and then pimping em out to be bred
@@RRW_HomeGrown.Keto.Cookin Wow thts the most bull crapp i ever heard in my life.
The only functional reason to crop ears is if it’s a livestock guardian dog that will possibly be fending off coyotes or other predators. The reason being that the ears are easily gripped by predators and can be used to manipulate the dogs head in a fight. None of the dogs I’ve seen this guy work with were training to be livestock guardian dogs.
His ears are gorgeous and unique just the way they are❤
Why crop his ears?
No reason other than vanity. They'll come up with a billion excuses and lies to make themselves feel better about slicing their dogs up, but don't believe them
They look cute with a tail and natural ears.
If you want pointy ears just get a German Shepherd. Leave those Doberman's and Dane's ears alone.

Awesome finish! Cropping ears sucks in my opinion! It takes away so much of the dog’s expression and character…
Fun fact floppy ears are from domestication, that’s why floppy ear dogs get infections left and right.
@@Keefer24 The solution clean your dogs ears some times. And say goodbye to ear infections. If they even get it. Not all dog ears are that prone to infections.
You can’t drink alcohol until you are 21 in America but you can butcher an innocent animals ears 🤦🤦🤦
My first doberman had a very long show crop done, not what I wanted, and I posted them for months!!!! They never stood and she had goblin ears her whole life but now that's she's gone, I miss those floppy cropped ears and they were one of her many beautiful features ❤
My show dog had gotten an infection while the breeder still had her at 9 weeks. I had to stop taping to let it dry out and heal. The floppy ear was corrected with a small x shaped implant. Had my dog not been shown, I probably would have left it alone. Love the breed regardless of cropping and docking controversy. Extremely intelligent and a strong desire to please.
I have the same problem, can you show which implant that is or perhaps how you taped them
I had taken my dog to the UF small animal hospital in Gainesville where the surgery was performed. The vet selected the implant. I do not recall the maker. As odd as it may sound, I was instructed to use Tampax and tape both ears until the sutures were removed. I used a piece of tape to connect the two ears to keep the floppy ear upright until it healed. I did notice a small amount of scar tissue had formed around it but the dog never appeared to have any pain associated with it. I presume a vet who performs crop surgeries would be able to assist you further. Good luck with your pup.
We r looking for an ear implant for our girls floppy ear
I think cropped ears and tails look amazing. Especially the ears. Gorgeous pointy shape. Despite this, I think it's brutal to cut off animal body parts for a cool look. Wish it was illegal.
Beautiful dog
Our old boy Charlie had this exact look. One of his ears akways down haha. Makes them unique. Miss ya buddy. We will meet again one day
It is a pain to tape dog ears... too sad that american dobbies with natural ears just don't look "like a doberman" lol
Lol that's hilarious
I had a dobie in the 90's and his name was Bruno! :)
It’s considered animal cruelty to crop a dog’s ear or any type of unnecessary cosmetic surgery for that matter

Thanks for your videos. They are quite informative. Could you make some videos about Indian dog breeds?
My Doberman and Boxer bad the 2nd down from the show cut, I wouldn't have it any other way, I don't like the floppy ears 😊
Cropping a dogs ears for YOUR vanity isn’t someone who loves dogs FACTS
A lot of dogs were bred for vanity and caused them to now have irreparable genetics and people continue to own and breee them but because they technically weren’t an after birth procedure it’s okay to you I guess? Lot of hypocrisy here. People claim to love dogs and they don’t even understand why dogs are here in the first place or the history and make up and purpose of a lot of them.
The Doberman was purposely bred and Frankensteind to be a guard dog. That’s why it was made to look like it does. The people that are drawn to Dobermans have that appeal in mind when getting them. This look is based on the origin of the dog.
Damn dog and cat lovers, they are both abominable
Perfect example is this comment that I’m replying to
What watching dog videos for and scrolling through the comments 🤡
You bad boy😁😁😁😁
I don't like ears cutting, tail cutting
If he’s not a year old yet, there are chances to make the ear stand with the right method and absolutely no down time except for post changing duration.
My Dobie is the same way. Her one ear is floppy an the other stands perfect. At first I was upset but now I find it makes her more unique and like it lol
Looks like a good boy
The dog looks so much better with a tail an uncropped ears.
He's cute eitherways.
I have a question iv noticed that certain dog owners crop there ears and some dogs have there tails cut I wish to know the purpose of this just a question I mean no offence
Breed standard traditions or because people actually work their working dogs and it’s a job hazard for them to have floppy bits like long tails or ears
Most owners do it for aesthetics/appearance. Some say cropping ears prevents infection, and docking a tail prevents breakage. In dobermans it's the breed standard to dock and crop because they're meant to be personal protectors, so you want to get rid of floppy ears and long tails to prevent someone from grabbing them in a fight; plus, it makes them look less emotional and more intimidating.
Mainly aesthetic for many guard dog breeds to give them a more intimidating look. Some will say docking the tail reduces chances of tail injuries for working breeds and ear cropping reduces chances of ear infections. But overall its mainly just a practice maintained for certain breeds identity, much like how people will circumcise their new born baby boy. Little proven benefit in the practices but something people have been doing for long enough that its kind of a tradition now.
He's too cute though. 😂
My Cane Corso came with cropped ears. Easy to read her by watching her ears. Might not be as easy with full ears.
This happened to my doby, scar tissue....it happens sometimes, unfortunately!
Why would you crop the ears? It’s like cropping of the tail of an old English sheepdog before issues arrive. It’s useless and unnecessary, even cruel if you ask me. If you want a “big scary dog” take another breed that you don’t have to modify.
I was just beginning to like your channel but this made me lose all respect. Stop maiming dogs for their looks. A "professional" dog trainer that is fine with cropping has zero credibility in my eyes.
Buddy no one cares, the dog ain’t in pain so why do you care
I have Doberman puppies that I want to guard. What is the serious age to take them to the trainer? Everyone tells me between 6 and 8 months.
Unc got jokes
Keep it taped! It will fix it
I like the cute floppy ear
Why not just stop clipping ears? 🤔
Lol!
i choose a working crop not a show crop..
The only crop that makes sense.
Add calcium to his diet while postings
I took a piece of foam water pipe insulation and used it to stand up the ear on my shepherd it worked. The vet had told me to just get used to it because it was never going to stand up.
I heard if you add grass fed cottage cheese into their food that will help.
There is cartlidge hardener
Let's face it, cropped ears and dock tail look way cooler.
Tail gets docked or should be docked within the first 2-3 days of so after birth. They do not have feelings in the tail at that time. Ears also should be done at a very young age. Before they develop cartilage. That’s when you post them. That takes a few weeks and is time consuming. If the puppy has adult teeth, then the proper window of opportunity to have erect ears has passed .
They do have nerve feeling people say that to make it sound more humane. vets here say it's the equivalent of cutting off a newborn babies little finger without anesthesia. Im so glad it's been banned here it's barbaric. The only reason I can see for docking anything is if tail has become damaged through trama, which is rare.
@@sarahmoss4224 Blud, when the cropping surgery is performed (tail or ears), the dog is put under anesthesia so it falls asleep and that’s it.
You act like the dog screams in pain as the surgery is performed
In the UK, laws prevent this. The workaround is used cardboard rolls from toilet paper. I dont know if it works or not. It is what I read.
Fun fact. The cardboard rolls work as a speaker if you cut a phone sized hole in them.
Cropping is so weird. Sound like animal abuse to me.
I adopted a 3 yr old with curly tips. Should I repost? Or is it too late?
so idk what to do, there's this street dog around us, its 5 months old and it comes to my dog daily, my dog, 4 months old, gets scared immediately and has fallen so many times trying to run off.. what do i do? i feel so bad to make it go away since he has no other friends and barely gets to eat, he gets so excited everytime we're around too.. what do i do?
Adopt it and start training him too
Reassure your dog when it's around with lots of treats. Best if there's a chain link fence between them when you start this.
Give the other dog treats too. Let them share a positive experience together.
Whats the deal with floppy vs upright? Is there a purpose? Just wondering
No, there is no purpose other than for looks. And it doesn't even look good, they look blocky and dumb. And it causes trouble communicating with other dogs since they use their ears and tails all the time to talk
I thought taping is also a bad thing to do to your dog?
My pitt-mix ears were cut to maybe 1/2 an inch before I got him. Thankfully he has no issues from it, not physically or with people touching them
Do they normally crop that short? That's pretty short
@@KN-gp6ln Not supposed to, no... though I personally don't think they should be cropped at all
What to do if this happens??
It depends on the puppies age. If they still have puppy teeth. Then you still have time and keep posting. If they have adult teeth the. Most likely the ear is “as is”
Too late to fix it. Already formed after 4 months
Does he still have his puppy teeth ? If so then the ear has a chance. If he has his big boy teeth, then he is gonna have a floppy ear. So the next question is…is the dog for “work?”
