On Trident, I'd say it's a deterrant, it's not about what you do when nukes are fired at us, it's about making them think "if we nuke them, they'll nuke us back", so if you have it and you can convince the potential aggressor that you would use it in such a situation, that's how it works. It doesn't really matter if you press the button or not, so long as you can convince them you would press the button. If nuclear war breaks out, it's not gonna matter, we're gonna be dead anyway, but you want to give as much reason as possible to deter other countries from starting one. Seems like a lot of money to spend yes, but it's effective, the cold war could easily have been a "hot" war without the threat of mutually assured destruction. If WW3 did break out, that's the end of human civilization pretty much, so we should try to deter any potential aggressors until everyone takes their nukes off the table. On nuclear power, why not? I come from an area that's economy is reliant on nuclear reprocessing and as a way of producing energy, it's something that is good at producing reliable power, is carbon neutral once set up, and is very fuel efficient. Yes it requires consideration for the future to store waste products safely, but if it is managed correctly, it's very safe. In terms of economics, many reactors of the same type should be built at once to save money rather than lots of different ones. And then the next generation of reactors should improve on that and be all the same type whilst the old ones decommission and repeat on a cycle, it requires long term planning, but is ultimately good if you can stick to it. Unfortunately, there's no parties truly pursuing a worthwhile nuclear policy, but there's definitely a pro-nuclear case to be made if we want to cut our carbon emissions drastically.
I voted for a local independent candidate. I was going to spoil my ballot as the party I support do not run in my area. The reason I voted for an independent is thier aims were for the local community.
As I don’t live in a current colony of the English, I wasn’t involved in this voting. As someone from a country who was subjected to 800 years of English rule, I still cannot get my head around why anybody would vote against independence from them. Your point about the special deal is a bit moot since you voted against independence. The north get a special deal because it’s not even English land. It’s occupied Irish land and it doesn’t even share a land border with its occupier. A hard border caused by Brexit would go against the Good Friday Agreement. Only the DUP are stupid enough to risk that for their own (im)moral victory. Happy you voted for the SNP this time around. By far the best choice. Hopefully they’ll up the ante for the next Indy-ref. The sooner the union is broken up, the better. Scotland and its people deserve better and to have freedom. The vote in the north of Ireland was absolutely incredible. The first time there’s been a majority of nationalist MPs. John Finucane played an absolute blinder to secure North Belfast. All the hard work that went in to it really shone through. The people are starting to see through the DUP. Although nobody in the north will end up with a meaningful say on Brexit itself, they’ll have a meaningful say on life in the north. The majority of nationalists should go a long way in improving the quality of life and will hopefully lead to a border poll in the near future.
i know its very stupid! here in Scotland you can register to vote at 14 and vote in the Scottish Elections from age 16! if you can fight and die for the country you should be able to pick the government who puts you there!
@@ThePrenti I'm Scottish too. I've been registered since I was 15 but I haven't had the chance to vote yet. Currently studying politics using the SAAS that SNP are giving.
@@zacksaccount2937 my bad dude! yeah its so dumb that you are not allowed to vote! all 16+ should be able to vote in any election! SAAS is a life saver for when i was studying
