He's not shading Nicole Kidman he's shading the people who cut him off. Nicole Kidman is just his example. He's probably shading the fact that he's a black man who got a minute cut off from his speech when a white lady got 45 seconds more. He even says "it's not her fault" so stop pitting the two of them against each other
tripple_be. I saw that. That was a really powerful scene at the end. Makes me want to watch it. I teared up after watching him tear up. I cant wait to see what else he brings to the table.
This guy is on as hot of a hot streak as anyone can be on. Won his first Emmy last year on an unbelievably successful show, The People VS OJ Simpson. Now winning his second Emmy in a much bigger category for his leading role in another unbelievably successful show This Is Us. Now he’s in Marshall. Next year he’ll be in Black Panther. This guy is riding high and I hope he keeps going. In the words of Sterling K Brown at the Emmys, “I’m a fan.”
Justin Awill He beat the likes of Hopkins and Spacey, who are legendary actors, for his first leading role Emmy too. There's no way that doesn't feel amazing!
I thought this interview was great! It wasn't fair that Sterling got played off, props to Stephen for trying to stop it. Love you Stephen and Sterling!
I counted that he was starting to be cut off by music after exactly 2 minutes from the start of his speech. That's a generous enough amount of time. Surely winners have to realize that they have a limited amount of time to complete their speech, especially later in the awards show as they run over time. The winner after him was allowed even less time. By the way, you will notice that Nicole Kidman's music began about 2min20, but she was in the middle of a speech about domestic violence, and the music was quickly cut off to let her finish talking about it. What does Sterling think if the Emmys cut off her off after 2 minutes, as he was, when she was talking about a neglected social issue that is completely relevant to her role? Sterling may have been facetious in his approach to this mention, but he does seem to hold a gripe. Why did Sterling describe Kidman as "white"? Does he really contend this was anything to do with race?
Mr. Brown was amazing up there, he was clearly prepared and was composed and had great things to say. They should not have played him off...you just don't see presence like that on an award stage. And now I have to watch This Is Us. Oh, and he's made charming offspring for future generations. Thank you, Sterling. Oh, hey, movie looks awesome!
lol, i could go on forever. keep in mind these guys are above 40, some WAY above Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale, Keanu Reeves, Michael Fassbender, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Jackman, Joaquin Phoenix, etc. I'm sure your boy Sterling is a good actor, but he looks like Denzel on meth.
blood honey Agreed! I’m a white male and married, but my first impression when he walked out on stage and sat down was “wow, he’s a great looking guy!” I love his suit too...beautiful cut!
He's 100% right, they let Nicole ramble on and on and on right in the very beginning and from that point on, they kept making comments about how tight they were on time. They wouldn't have run quite that tight if someone had made her wrap it up 2 minutes or so earlier.
People who criticize him for his remark on Kidman need to hush. He made a point that was his to make. From the moment Sterling stood in front of the mic untill the music was played it was exactly 2 minutes. Kidman from mic till her self chosen walk off, was exactly 2.45 and they didnt cut the mic and turn off the light- THAT was super rude to him. These dumb guys from the emmys and alike forget that sometimes there are actually people who are having the night of their life and share their joy. And what do they do, go to commercial. And newsflash: We dont need Tom Cruise's ex-wife to educate us about domestic violence. Which in fact she wasnt doing anyway, she thanked everyone and added a single sentence to the effect of, sometimes actors can shed a light on an important issue. Wow, impressive. So really, in every aspect Sterling made a true statement.
i actually think they time it from the moment their name is called i havent timed nics because i cant find it anymore, but from the moment sterlings name is announced to when they cut him off is exactly 2.40 so maybe that is why because nic took literally 15 seconds to get up on that stage.
It's Emmy producers fault and of the director. You want respect for this big disrespect for this great actor, emmy award winner but you say Tom cruise's ex wife minimizing her career. I see the objectivity and the respect.. Fine!
She wasn't educating no one, she was saying that domestic violence IS still a thing, she started talking about it after the 2m mark, the same time that Sterling gets cut off, now he was just thanking people, she starter talking about real issues, if they would have cut her speech, everyone would be saying that the emmys don't care about domestic violence
Sterling Brown took issue as soon as the music started playing, despite the fact his speech was running over 2 minutes. No other actor's speech was longer than 100 seconds, except Sterling Brown and Nicole Kidman. Kidman had just started to speak about domestic violence around the 2min15 from the announcement she won. For a comparison, Sterling's music began over 2min30 from his announcement. Can you imagine the furor if the Emmys cut off Kidman during that section of the speech? I don't know why Sterling referred to Kidman as white in this segment. Is her race relevant in this? Did he need to say "white" as a descriptor to disambiguate from some Australian black (or other race) actress? Or was it a tacit way of claiming race was a factor in his treatment?
Max Meier . So you trying to be being fair And you just called her someone's ex. Why you degrading her? Tom was 16 years ago get over it. She doesn't need Tom or and other man to define herself. Cutting people in award show is not something new. That happens all the time.
I was happy for Nicole when she won, and I was upset that Sterling was played off. This is Us is a great show but every time I think of scenes that really hit it hard for me, are all Sterling's scenes. I'm so happy he is winning and getting noticed for good roles. Just wish he had a bit more time to thank people.
And Colbert, love your heart. We can always see what's really moved you when you interview -- you're a great performer, well over, but your heart still settles on your sleeve.
As a white person in a family of many colors and with many friends of color over the past 45 years, it was apparent to me that we as a nation were NOT post-racial when Barak Obama announced his candidacy for the presidency. I was !!appalled!! at the number of people I knew who "came out" as full-fledged racists. I was disgusted, but mostly disappointed to learn that we were not post-racial at all. What I perceived as a not-perfect-but-much-better-and-improving attitude was merely a fragile veneer masking a much deeper, very ugly problem. Trump's own promotion of violence and support of white supremacy has ripped the lid off of this country. Maybe, in a sad way, he has done us a favor by showing us how much work is still to be done. Sad.
I agree that we must always recognize the differences between the various races, but why must we continue to be so hateful and primitive about it? One race does not really need to conquer or subjugate another. It seems to me that much more is to be gained by embracing and appreciating the differences. Is the species homo sapiens sapiens not yet intelligent enough to do this?
what a lovely dude! my favorite first name in the world, charming, talented... i don't think i've ever been struck with a man-crush any quicker than that...
Gf and I see him all the time in person and he's crazy when it comes to his workout lol. Great personality and his kid Andrew is just as energetic as he is. I was honestly envious of him cause he kind of came out of nowhere but he's a great guy. Oh, to those who want to know where he lives. Out of respect to his family, don't bother asking me lol.
I wish I could have got to hear more of his Emmy speech in 2017. To be like him and Andre Braugher is a awful lot. And I hope that he gets more throughout his career.
If only he knew how prophetic his words would be in regards to race in this country. I am watching this 5 years after and it is really shocking just how far we have stepped back in time.
Let's see him play Christopher Dorner!!!! Wake up amurica, wake up. We keep getting lied to and we turn away in disbelief. When will the truth be revealed - and heard?
this country is freaking sad. from the cut off at the emmys to the amazement that a white guy can a shake a guys hand in such a way, as per the comments below. I just feel for this nation and it's pathetic lack of culture...how it strives to have a soul. I thought it might have found that soul once with the music, innovation and bravely of the 60s but something happened; someone pressed pause. Hopefully Sterling will get a chance to finish his words, and this country will get a chance to actually have a noble and evolved history. He makes a beautiful call for a wake up here. Let's not go back....we indeed should be better. Damn. Elegant man.
Idk where he was in Obama’s presidency, but just cause he was president didn’t mean we had a handle on racism...this whole recent mess started back then and has just gotten worse.
So I take it that the audience agrees that this man should have been played off, talking about such important matters at an important time? He threw no shade; he spoke truth! Y'all are focusing on the wrong thing. Wake the fuck up!
He's not shading Nicole Kidman he's shading the people who cut him off. Nicole Kidman is just his example. He's probably shading the fact that he's a black man who got a minute cut off from his speech when a white lady got 45 seconds more. He even says "it's not her fault" so stop pitting the two of them against each other
He teared up at the end... that shit got me. That´s a man truely greatfull for everything he has earned. Lot´s of love and respect!!!
tripple_be. I saw that. That was a really powerful scene at the end. Makes me want to watch it. I teared up after watching him tear up. I cant wait to see what else he brings to the table.

Hes such a great actor- especially loved him in the People vs OJ.
Wow he's gorgeous. What a jawline!
wow, the bar is set pretty low for black guys if HE'S gorgeous
lol, i could go on forever. keep in mind these guys are above 40, some WAY above
Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale, Keanu Reeves, Michael Fassbender, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Jackman, Joaquin Phoenix, etc.
I'm sure your boy Sterling is a good actor, but he looks like Denzel on meth.
all of those guys you listed, other than Nas lol, are actual handsome men, way more than Sterling
hes got a kevin hart jawline tf you mean
blood honey Agreed! I’m a white male and married, but my first impression when he walked out on stage and sat down was “wow, he’s a great looking guy!” I love his suit too...beautiful cut!
Damn respect to Stephen for not messing up that handshake
Lmaoooo Steven I saw that handshake. I think your invited to Thanksgiving this year 😂😂😂
Anyone gonna appreciate how smooth Colbert was with that handshake???
The tear at the end on Sterling's face right after the handshake with Colbert is simply amazing.
That handshake though , good one Stephen
I love that this channel puts the whole interview in one video instead of splitting it up like other late night talk show youtubes do
Shouts out to Stephen for gettin the handshake right
Malek I 🤣🤣🙌🏽 Facts

Facts
He’s a Carolina boy...he kind of has to.
DID HE JUST SHADE NICOLE IM DEAD
Just got up to that part, oh muh damn.
subterranean homesick alien but why to nicole? Was it her fault?
TCt83067695 no but she had a long speech & was never cut off
He's 100% right, they let Nicole ramble on and on and on right in the very beginning and from that point on, they kept making comments about how tight they were on time. They wouldn't have run quite that tight if someone had made her wrap it up 2 minutes or so earlier.
The bromance is real, folks. Embrace it and love it
Notice when Sterling came out, the handshaje between him and Colbert is very telling.. Colbert is invited to the cookout. Lol
People who criticize him for his remark on Kidman need to hush. He made a point that was his to make. The handshake was so smooth
He's in his 40's? Man.. I feel so hideous. Don't look at me!
You're the prettiest notification bell I've ever seen, stop it
* batts his lashes *
gosh, I know how you feel lol
You are. You should go away forever
Black don't crack and all that.
I was happy for Nicole when she won, and I was upset that Sterling was played off. 3:05. That nicole kidman shade tho...
Nathaniel Lashley TEA WAS SERVED
Can someone explain the reference
Kidman's speech took up half the emmys
It is the emmys producers fault and they owe him an apology
Nathaniel Lashley it wasn't shade! It was a comment on how she can finish a speech about her legacy and he wasn't allowed to do the same.
Glad Colbert mentioned the OJ Series, he was great in that.
Ok, Stephen! I see that handshake! Where'd you pick that up from? Lol. Love it.
He's sooo charming, loved him on This is us! ❤️ from Kazakhstan 😄
I see him and still remember him as Gordon from Supernatural. Congrats to him for all the well deserved success he has had.
My god this guy is good looking
I really do think he got cut off too early than some of the other winners...
Loved how he called out white actors/actresses who've already given a billion acceptance speeches - haven't ya'll hogged the mic for way to long now?
In Gods timing look at him at at 40 making big moves! God Bless! Him he’s a wonderful actor
He's just brilliant. Big congrats on your wonderful success and win!
And Colbert, love your heart. We can always see what's really moved you when you interview -- you're a great performer, well over, but your heart still settles on your sleeve.
So talented. So humble. I wish him nothing but continued success
loved him on Army Wives, too!
MissasDuke yes!! No one every mentions Army Wives he was amazing on Army Wives
Such a humble, righteous dude!

Woman of Substance You do realize racism will always racist right? From all sides
He speaks so eloquently
A lot of black people do. Newsflash. Wake up!
Is he not suppose to?
This is not news. It is, however, quite racist.
I see Chris Darden. I click.
Nikita Deshpande the dude is insanely ripped too #bodgoals
what a lovely dude! my favorite first name in the world, charming, talented...
i don't think i've ever been struck with a man-crush any quicker than that...

You handled the being played out with dignity and strength. Great job Sterling
I wish I could have got to hear more of his Emmy speech in 2017. To be like him and Andre Braugher is a awful lot. And I hope that he gets more throughout his career.
Those are genuine tears, people.
This guy owes me a box of tissues (just binged watched the last 8 episodes of This is Us). Goddamn that finale was powerful.
That definitely wasn't fair that Nicole can go on and on but he wins and gets cut off.
Stephen biting his finger at 3:15 hahaha
That voice.. 😍😍😍
Omg, I really want to see that now. He's a great actor!
Woah, that clip was really good and interesting.
Omg... hes the next Morgan Freeman. A fine one, in fact

He's gorgeous!
Loved his performance in American Crime Story.
Where is my super suit!
I still love him from Supernatural.
Loved him in Army Wives too!
If only he knew how prophetic his words would be in regards to race in this country. I am watching this 5 years after and it is really shocking just how far we have stepped back in time.
I LOVED him in Army Wives!!
Great Actor. This Is Us brought me here
This guy has crazy talent. New star is born late. Damn.
Does he realize he beat two knights, since Kevin Spacey has an honorary knighthood?
HorrocksSam yeah...he acknowledged that.
justmejr315 He mentioned Sir Anthony Hopkin's knighthood.
Kate McKinnon was going "on a very personal note thank you Hillary Clinton-" "PLAY THE MUSIC! PLAY THE MUSIC!!!"
He will always be Gordon from SPN to me... and I hate him for that LMAO
Marshall was such a great movie!
Good interview.
Go down to the comments to get a laugh but turns out half of them are about his good looks.. Don't blame them lol
what a fucking burn. Respect.
I thought that was him in the OJ show! But with the different hair, I thought I was confusing him with someone else 😳
His wife is beautiful! I love him
gordon walker
They bleeped out "piss?"
I'm a proud fan of Sterling K Brown I wanna be movies and t.v. shows
Love him!
I remember when he was on Supernatural !

I will die on this hill.
Let's see him play Christopher Dorner!!!! Wake up amurica, wake up. We keep getting lied to and we turn away in disbelief. When will the truth be revealed - and heard?
I favorited this for the intro by the band. Goddamn!
Oh hello Gordon
this country is freaking sad. from the cut off at the emmys to the amazement that a white guy can a shake a guys hand in such a way, as per the comments below. recognize him from army wives
I like him a lot and he's really talented but I won't ever be able to separate him from Gordon Walker on SPN... and GOD was that man awful.
u rock
He is spectacular ... sigh
1:56 Who is Keyser Söze?
Nicole Kidman got 2 minutes and 45 seconds....
3:40 He could have been married to Carter instead if not for Finch. Just sayin'...
Mr. Moseby is that you????
Idk where he was in Obama’s presidency, but just cause he was president didn’t mean we had a handle on racism...this whole recent mess started back then and has just gotten worse.
Lol he was cut off after 3 minutes of speech not after 3 seconds.. how much time did he want?
So I take it that the audience agrees that this man should have been played off, talking about such important matters at an important time?
He threw no shade; he spoke truth! Y'all are focusing on the wrong thing. Wake the fuck up!
Didn't he play the african warlord in lord of war? (Baptiste I think)
