Something I've always liked about this scene is the dramatic irony of Sans not knowing about Flowey talking to Papyrus. Having seen Flowey prior, the player assumes that what Sans is referring to when asking about a "talking flower". However, the misdirection from Sans talking about echo flowers, believing that Papyrus is getting pranked by someone with them, adds a lot of realism to his character. Him not knowing about that is much more interesting than if he just knew everything, it keeps Sans' character and intelligence grounded.
I think the context doesn't really call for it though. Like. He talks about echo flowers and someone trolling Paps. I don't think this is something that needs to be a secret
