Plot twist: after the fight papyrus killed the human and he did the thing to summon all of them to watch him fight the human just to impress them on how good he is at fighting
It's also the reason they aren't permanent because they used all the determination that pap gave if they didn't fight and pap killed the human (he would most likely) and takes the soul he can just basically reset or continue on

you do realize that sans never try to fight frisk because he knows that it impossible to beat her and papyrus on the other hand didn't not know that the human can come back to live so he just keep on trying and if sans can kill frisk he can just end the fight with his one move also know as "GET DANK ON DUNKED ON" the move is impossible to avoid
