Classic Brush Drum Solo

- If you are a jazz drummer, you got to play brushes on the most famous brush song of all time call "Cute". This song was composed by Neal Nefti for Count Basie. In this jazz trio with Mark Multrup on piano, Hiram Hazley bass, and me Ken Loomer on my vintage Ludwig downbeat kit, I get to do a brush drum solo on this arrangement of Cute. So many of the great drummers of the past and present have played and recorded Cute like Sonny Payne, Buddy Rich, Jeff Hamilton, Steve Smith, Joe Morello and Gene Krupa. I love to play brushes in a jazz trio and use my technique to make it a swinging solo. I also have my own Ken Loomer Big Band and use brushes on many arrangements that I play like this • Trombone Feature "HOW ... Brushes is for sure a fun way to play these jazz songs.

So good to hear you as a drummer learned how to play the brushes. It is a lost artform. Doing this song Cute which is so much fun to play on brushes, I get to show my technique for how I play the brushes. My little 18 inch bass drum which I tune lower to get a powerful sound to accent those kicks in the song. Thanks Charlie for your comment.

Sounds great, Ed Thigpen is one my favorite brush players.
I saw Ed Thigpen with the great Oscar Peterson Trio. He for sure was one of the all time great brush players. Thanks for your comment.

Since I`m a unknown jazz drummer, very little interest in this type of playing. One of my Big Band video`s I posted this year did get over 100,000 views which is amazing for a drummer Big Band leader ruclips.net/video/12lKwlpq8Vg/видео.html When was the last time you ever saw a jazz musician on any of the Late Night Talk Shows? It`s Never!! Well at least I can post my live gigs on my channel for the people who enjoy the jazz music I play. Thanks David for your comment.
@@KenLoomer Since Buddy Rich is no longer on the Tonight Show, sadly, you are correct! If I may ask, what part of the country do you do your live gigs? I would absolutely do my best to see it live. We really need to get folks back into jazz of all types!
@@DavidKasan I live in Florida in the Tampa Bay area. I wish I could do a tour with my Big Band around the country. The days of the Big Bands on the road is long gone. So the best I can do is post my video`s on my channel for the few people who enjoy the work I do with my Big Band, Jazz Quartet and Trio. I don`t mind the work I do to get the jobs, hire the musicians, put all the music together, promote my bands since the people here have enjoyed my bands so much. Thanks David for your comment.

@@DavidKasan I have played concerts at The Starz Performing Arts Center in Tampa which of course I have posted many of those concerts and at the Ybor HCC campus. Just did a gig in St Petersburg last night. I never played Lutz.
