This does definitely look like a decent product. Those set up issues will put off the casual gamer that wants to play Time Crisis on their Playstation though. Good job there are plenty of us that like to sit and tweak options all day though. Great video Neil.
Great update, thanks Neil. Is there a plan to make a wireless version? The lithium battery could be mounted in the hand grip. Would also be nice to see the addition of a foot pedal to allow you to duck in games such as time crisis.
Andy says he wants to finish the current fulfillment and project before a wireless model. It would be fun to try out. Emulators can map anything to a button in most instances so you could use anything from a custom made pedal to a keyboard you're stepping on the space-bar with to be a pedal (not recommended) that doesn't have to be specific to the Sinden
Just bought on your recommendation. I hesitated due to it being a crowd funded thing and crowd-funded hardware is extremely difficult to deliver, but if you say its good it will 100% be worth it I am sure :) 👍👍
A nice review Neil, I personally don't use these things but for anyone else it looks pretty good. I noticed that you had an early start in the cave it must be quite cool to be in your new place and exciting times too. Thumbs up all round.
That looks really cool and will be a part of my setup once I get it completed. I have a challenge for you, though. There was an arcade game from 1986 called Night Stocker. It was a combination driving and light gun shooting game. It was an interesting challenge to control both the wheel and the gun at the same time and I'd like to see if you could get a decent combination working using that light gun and a wheel of your choice.
It would be amazing if the Sinden Light Gun could work with the MiSTer FPGA - Not sure if that's even possible. Perhaps use the arm side to process the visual data and pass it to the FPGA as a mouse input.
Hazarding a guess, it'll likely require a Pi4 to do the processing, and simulate a HID pointing device on it's GPIO pins. I would be very surprised if the ARM side of the Cyclone V could process even 320x240 camera data at anything more than single digit FPS. Would love to be proved wrong however!
Great gun and nice review. I agreed with Mark but taking a look at some old arcade machines they had the same design so better to play with a single hand, a skill to be developed in itself.
How intrusive is the border in practice? I didn't really hear any criticisms of it, but I can see it obscuring certain UI elements in the footage presented, such as the barrel and score in the Virtua Cop gameplay. I can see that causing some problems with games with enemies or things to shoot at the very edge of the screen, or maybe games with a more concise UI where it might prevent you from seeing your health entirely. Thats honestly my main concern about this thing. Is there a way to set it so it goes around the game rather than on top of it?
Light gun games was the main reason I game on a crt. I’ll continue to do so until my equipment fails but it’s great to finally have a viable option for light gun games in an lcd/oled. I know arcade 1up are going to be using sinden light guns so this’ll be great for the home arcade scene.
An ultra-short-throw projector would probably be your best bet for ease of mounting and space savings for the projection setup problem, plus minimal chance of people getting in front of the projection while playing!
Had a light gun on the PS one it was awesome! I could have the experience again, even with more games but you have to have a credit card to buy the gun :(. May 2021 comes the next batch :).
@RMCRetro I had a thought, you could adjust the bezel like that by thickening the borders. BUT what if you set the screen in 'no scale' mode (through the graphic's card's driver side) so that when you set up a persistant custom resolution for the monitor and computer to recognise it. It would then artifically 'increase' the TV/Monitor's bezel without needing to eat more into the game's frame with the overlay borders taking over the game's real estate to compensate for the lack of bezel? The Idea is that once the custom resolution is set, the PC can see it globally - then you can easily swap it back into its native resolution to play other non light games or such games easily.
Gonna have to get this to add my the M.A.M.E. arcade I built for my kids... Light gun games are some of our favorites... We still pop in Gunblade N.Y./ L.A. Machine-gun on Wii, and the House of the Dead games once in a while...
I don't know about the UK, but the orange tips are required by law in the US. To be honest, it's a lot more likely that someone, especially a minor, with a fake gun would "accidentally" get shot here. It's happened before. This may be the one area the US has more restrictive "gun laws" than other countries. lol Actually, I suppose anyone can do what they want after purchasing, but no sales are allowed without it.
It's definitely in the rules here too. Toy guns have been sold with orange tips as long as I can remember - in fact I think now they even have to be entirely coloured some psychadelic colour so there's no possibility of mistaking one.
I'll probably be purchasing one of these _(non-recoil)_ later this year and if I'm happy with its performance. I'll purchase a second recoil version. They will be a great addition towards my collection of local coop games. Since I'm not interested in online gaming as much any more. I prefer a nice selection of 2-4 local multiplayer games that can be played with friends while having a few beers. No long game setups and no long games. Can pause or quit at any moment.
i remember in 2001 i bought vampire night for PS2 w/Guncon. It played great on my huge Sony crt tv, but i was very disappointed later when it did not work with LCD type tvs. And i understand why it doesnt work. So maybe this will be a solution down the road. I miss playing until my trigger finger just doesnt work anymore. Lol
Thank you so much for the great videos!!! Point Blank is the main - if not the only - reason I want to buy this lightgun! At 150 euros (recoil version) is a bit expensive IMHO.
Niche products always carry a higher price than they should. I do have a recoil lightgun from the 90s and I don't recommend them. The recoil is so noisy unless your TV is on full blast it drowns out the game, plus over time the vibrations to your hands get real uncomfortable.
@@Roggor I agree, some rare devices like this, have their pwn price tag. About the recoil, I think it is a must have for me, because I used to play point blant, virtua cop etc (coin op) when I was young, and I loved it. I think it can be disabled in settings. I prefer to "bite the bullet" and buy the recoil version. The problem is that I would like to buy 2, but thats a big no no at that price...

I’m looking forward to receiving my units soon but something that jumps out at me that I am not a fan of is how the border eats into the playing area rather than placing the image inside the border.
@@glenndoiron9317 I appreciate that the border is required no problems with that at all it’s the fact the border is cutting off parts of the game by being placed over the game image. I was wondering why the game image couldn’t be placed inside the border rather than slapped on top therefore losing part of the game display.
@@insertmanycoins1752 That would require the game/emulator to be aware that the border of their display was being used by something else and reconfigure their output scale to the new, smaller part of the windowed area. On all operating systems, the assumption is if you ask for a 320x200 window or screen, and you get it, its all yours (unless the OS reserves part of it for UI elements, but you would know that when programming).

This does definitely look like a decent product. Those set up issues will put off the casual gamer that wants to play Time Crisis on their Playstation though. Good job there are plenty of us that like to sit and tweak options all day though. Great video Neil.
Looks great on the projector.
Wish I still had mine.
If you have a PC DDR pad, that would make a great pedal
I got the non-recoil Kickstarter backer one back in October (September???), but haven't gotten around to actually trying it out.
How does it feel? Does it feel weighty enough for you or does it need that recoil weight in it do you think?
@@RMCRetro I didn't play around with it much (yet), but it felt fine to me as-is. I can understand some wanting a more weighty feel, though.
Looks great. My only gripe is the white border, especially in a cab setup.
Just bought on your recommendation. I hesitated due to it being a crowd funded thing and crowd-funded hardware is extremely difficult to deliver, but if you say its good it will 100% be worth it I am sure :) 👍👍
Mad Dog McCree, the nostalgia. 😊
Mine haven't been delivered yet :(
You need more subscribers for the perks Larry 😁
A nice review Neil, I personally don't use these things but for anyone else it looks pretty good. I noticed that you had an early start in the cave it must be quite cool to be in your new place and exciting times too. Thumbs up all round.
That looks really cool and will be a part of my setup once I get it completed. I have a challenge for you, though. There was an arcade game from 1986 called Night Stocker. It was a combination driving and light gun shooting game. It was an interesting challenge to control both the wheel and the gun at the same time and I'd like to see if you could get a decent combination working using that light gun and a wheel of your choice.
It would be easy enough. Figuring out what buttons were needed for the driving portion and setting up a wheel and pedals with it
Liked and subscribed this is the first video i saw on the channel but is exactly what i wanted cheers.
Welcome to The Cave!
Lovely video, and lovely looking bit of kit!
Hopefully this means mine will be arriving very soon as I have two on order with the recoil. Thanks for the setup tips and looking forward to playing
It would be amazing if the Sinden Light Gun could work with the MiSTer FPGA - Not sure if that's even possible. Perhaps use the arm side to process the visual data and pass it to the FPGA as a mouse input.
I asked Andy about this and a driver is in development. Andy is working with one of the mister devs
Hazarding a guess, it'll likely require a Pi4 to do the processing, and simulate a HID pointing device on it's GPIO pins. I would be very surprised if the ARM side of the Cyclone V could process even 320x240 camera data at anything more than single digit FPS.
Would love to be proved wrong however!
great video. I've seen a couple videos about this gun but this one answers a lot of questions.
Thanks for watching it
I'm waiting on mine. Hopefully any day now. The first game I'll be playing is Time Crisis and then House of the Dead 2.
Big buck hunter uses his Sinden technology, that so cool to think about that! He is making a big impact on the scene.
Massive light gun game fan so this is very interesting 👍
An ultra-short-throw projector would probably be your best bet for ease of mounting and space savings for the projection setup problem, plus minimal chance of people getting in front of the projection while playing!
Had a light gun on the PS one it was awesome! I could have the experience again, even with more
games but you have to have a credit card to buy the gun :(. May 2021 comes the next batch :).
What we see here is Operation Wolf heaven. Fantastic!
Just how gaming should be!
Looks fantastic, very impressed with it. I do own the G-Con45 and the G-Gon 2. The PS3 one, i cannot remember its name, but i own that too.
i remember in 2001 i bought vampire night for PS2 w/Guncon. It played great on my huge Sony crt tv, but i was very disappointed later when it did not work with LCD type tvs. And i understand why it doesnt work. So maybe this will be a solution down the road. I miss playing until my trigger finger just doesnt work anymore. Lol
I remember my finger would cramp up and my arm was sore at the arcade when I was playing a long time, good times.
I used to play the crap out of the Virtua Cop 2 demo back in the day.
Very much liking the sound of the recoil
Would love to have this at home.. Looks great.. Thanks for showing this Neil.
I loved it Neil! I just wanted to see more haha ❤️
Damn! I gotta get one of these! Enjoyed the video, thanks!
Hi Great video - Please confirm what Projector unit you were using? Can you use a laptop to emulate the games and output to Projector then use lightguns? Will the lightguns work on PS5 when official shooting games are released? Have queried with Andy but I know He is V Busy..
Very good video, well explained and good quality. You earned yourself a like and a new subscriber, keep it up
best way i’ve found to ad weight to things is with alloy wheel balancing weights, the sticky ones :)
Loved the video thank you, I ordered my 2 guns with recoil 2nd October last year, Andys updates have been very good but I im starting to get worried that these won't turn up:(
I’m looking forward to receiving my units soon but something that jumps out at me that I am not a fan of is how the border eats into the playing area rather than placing the image inside the border.
The border is how it calculates its position. This is why it works on any TV set, CRT, LCD, projection, or even projector.
I received my Sinden Lightgun today!!
Hurrah!
