    5 minutes after watching this video i fixed two heavy solid wood doors from swinging open! Now a tip from me, when pounding the pins back on put a piece of cardboard or junk mail between the pin and door to avoid scratching the door with the hammer! Ask me how i figured this out! Thanks man. Subbed

    Also worth mentioning is you can bend the top or bottom hing linkages the pin goes into a little bit. This way you have no bent pin. Just tap the linkage with a mallet to create a little tension on one point of the hinge which will cause the pin to push against the links.

    A small amout of lubricant will helpyou remove and insert those pins more easily (and to operate less noisily) - but now that I've watched the entire video, oiling tke pins may defeat your friction-based approach.
    FWIW, an alternative (especially when hinge replacement is required) is to purchase a special door-closing hinge with an internal tensioner mechanism. It looks just like a regular hinge except that its closing force can be precisely adjusted using an Allen wrench inserted into the top of the "pin" (but it's not a traditional pin).

    This worked great on one door. Still not enough on the second door. When you had to adjust two hinges for the door that kept swinging open, did you bend the middle hinge or the bottom hinge?

    • @TwoNerdEFamilies
      @TwoNerdEFamilies  8 дней назад

      Top and bottom, but any or all hinges can be done to increase the friction.

  • @Adam-gb3yj

    Worked like a charm, thank you! One more tip: before you do this put some oil on the hinges, then open and close the door a few times so it spreads evenly. Will make this much easier, I could just pull the hinge out by hand once I bumped it with a screwdriver from the bottom. And it is good practive to oil your hinges anyway, even if they are fine, they won't develop squeaking in the future.

    I’ve just used cardboard shims under the hinge after loosening up the screws, top or bottom hinge depending on the swing. If one doesn’t do it then double up. But never thought about stiffening the hinge up by bending the pin.

    Don't Use Your Screwdriver As A Pry Bar. When its bent up and rounded down it will slip and wear the screws and cause more lost time. Mark your old one as your new mini pry bar.
    Remove the bottom door hinge pin first, middle pin second.
    Replace them in opposite order.
    Use 2 wood blocks so don't chip your concrete.
    High chance the new lateral strain on the door hinge screws will cause them to push on the wood door jam and loosen it or the screws.
    Thanks for the wisdom of the temporary restrain tip.

    You can just take a 16d nail or a Phillips screwdriver and knock the pin up from the bottom...you risk the flat head screwdriver slipping and damaging the door
