You gals are such a breath of sunshine. Ty for being you! My Gramma taught me to sew and cook. I have her Singer Red Eye. It used to be a treadle, and then Grampa converted it to electric. I have since converted it to host a high powered 1.0 amp motor, and replaced the Needle Bar to accept today’s modern feet. It’s an amazing machine. I also have my Mom’s 1970 Touch and Swear with the plastic gears. Lol. As a child, we never could get that darn machine to stitch right. And then, when I inherited it, I ruined it by getting oil on the plastic gears. So, I picked up a 1968 Singer Golden Touch and Sew, with Steel gears and a Chain Stitch option. It is gorgeous… like brand new. So now, I tell my Mom in Heaven, that this was her Mother’s day gift. Oh... and the Doilies... yes, but Gramma also had us crocheting those Beaded Jars. But they weren't beads. They were those shiny glass thingies that looked like imitation beads. haha. We thought they were beautiful back then. lol Those were the days of Gold Leafing all your furniture... Ahhh, me and my mom did that quite a bit. Happy Mother's Day to you gals, and all the other Mom's out there.
My Mom’s a quilter as was my grandma. Mom sewed all of my clothes until I was old enough to sew my own. I have slept under quilts my entire life am I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Hummingbirds are migratory birds. Contact your local County Extension Office and ask them when the hummingbirds are due to arrive in your area. Love the quilts!
I didn't sit underneath my Mom's feet when she sewed. She worked all day, so she sewed at night after I was in bed when I was very little. Then I started sitting right beside her when I got older because I wanted to watch. But all 3 of my daughters crawled under my machine when they were little, pushed on the pedal, and all three of them ran the needle through my finger many times. My Mom taught me to sew and at 68, I still think of her and hear her voice when I'm trying to figure out a pattern. She was a blessing.
Doilies, I was the only one who grabbed my mothers hand work. I will always cherish them. And they are being handed down to my daughter. I believe in using them instead of keeping fresh in a drawer… I love the quilts with the large showing of fabric. I have beautiful butterfly fabric that I want to leave big enough to enjoy it. Great ideas
Again, beautiful quilts! My mom had a large garden every year, canned what she grew, had tons of flowers, made all our clothes and quilted. And cooked all our meals from scratch with no recipes. She was much more talented than I.
Everyone in my family is more talented than I. But I don't let that stop me from making useful and beautiful items for my family. I hope you don't let it stop you, either. God bless .
Trouble getting in today, but I am here from Maine. i have my Grandmother's treadle machine. My father told me that when he remembers "riding" on the treading while his Mom was sewing. Dad would be 108 if he was still with us, so I know the machine is over 100 years old.
Thank you for the memory of the treadle sewing machine. That is what my Grandmother used up until the day she died in 1974. My brother and I would do the treadle for her. A great memory from our childhood. Love this pattern. It is so easy. I use it a lot for a really quick kids quilt when needed.
Thank you again for another wonderful video. I LOVE the pictures of quilts so we can see the fabrics in use. Awesome! I look forward to your videos each week. Happy Mother’s Day! Debby
I just love Tuesdays & Thursdays because I love your tutorials. Here in PA my sister swears by putting the hummingbird feeders on Mother's Day and they come down on Labor Day.
I love hummingbirds, too. In Virginia, we begin seeing hummingbirds at the beginning of April. Another great quilt kit from Fabric Cafe! Thanks so much!
My daughters played under the sewing table extensions wh hen they were very young while I sewed . They always begged for my “scrafs” to dress their Dollie’s in🤭. Sweet memories. Now, they both quilt and both have daughters of their own. Only one grand quilts, but the another is very artistic. We’re still waiting to see what the middle chooses to do!
Every new video, I am blown away by your comprehensive knowledge and skill! Matching fabrics and colours, gosh, you do it so well. Every time I watch I feel that I'm gaining more understanding. The absolute special thing is seeing the two of you interact. You clearly have so much love for each other and get on so well together. That really adds so much 🥰💞
We just put our hummingbird feeder out, one was flying around the chimes on the back porch the other day. We live outside Tyler, TX. I love these quilts you show. My mother passed 30 years ago but she sure would've loved a quilt, especially one made by her children. I love the porch rail pattern and colors used with purple and green. I also love the vintage sewing machine fabric!! I have a treadle machine from 1880s.
We put our hummingbird feeder out yesterday and had our first hummingbird today! I was surprised to see one so quickly. I loved your show today…as I always do! Such beautiful fabrics and patterns. I learned to sew on a treadle machine in 9th grade Home Ec.
I live in Northern Michigan and I try to have mine out by the last of April or first of May. We are having beautiful weather right now so will diffentley be putting it soon
Beautiful quilt fabrics. Fran I love all your modern quilts. My hummingbird feeder went out today. There is a hummingbird migration map you can Google to show if they have reached your area.
I came here to mention this My husband found that map. It says they are in Chicago already, so they will be here before too long. Not too soon, I hope, there will probably be more frosts. If you can't find info online, I bet the weather casters at your local TV stations would know.
My mom didn’t quilt, but she made many of our clothes when we were growing up. I had 5 sisters so that was quite an undertaking. After we grew up and left home, she went back to school and got a degree in fine arts and made pottery and painted with water colors.
Absolutely loved tranquility and wasn’t sure about the garden path choices but when I saw the rendering WOW! I already put in my Mother’s Day request for the new book! 😂
Mom bowled in two leagues until she had a stroke at 88 years of age. She still cooked and loved her flowers and small garden with tomato plants. She hand quilted with her church group until just months before she passed. You would have been good friends.
To add to my earlier comment, my mother sewed a little when I was young. She made me a few skirts and pants with elastic waist. She loved to cook and bake, and was the best cook. She was always helping others and was such a fun and loving person. I admire you both, you are blessed!
My mother didn’t quilt but she did sew the majority of all our clothes. Later in life she started crocheting. She did make a cathedral window quilt after my dad retired and they were camping. I love the hummingbird quilt.
In Shoreline Washington, we feed our hummingbirds year around during the winter when it gets frozen. we have to bring our feeders inside at night and outside early in the morning..
I have the old treadle machine my mom used. I remember sewing on it too but it was more fun to rock the pedal and play! My mom was an avid crocheter. Doilies were her specialty and were often given as gifts. She also crocheted Barbie dresses. Loved the images. Beautiful quilts!
Leave it out all year! Where it freezes a lot during the winter I believe they bring them in at night when it is more likely to freeze. In some areas the Hummingbirds may migrate but here in the Pacific Northwest they are here all year around!
My mum , who’s just turned 100, had a treadle machine which I learned to use. I was given an old hand turn sewing machine machine to play with. I made dolls clothes and rag dolls. It all paid off as I grew to love sewing and patch working.
We live in pa. And I hang my feeders out around my son's birthday which is 4/28 , they usually show up right around that date, this year they decided to come on 5/1
My mom did knit, embroidery, and macrame, and she loved to garden too. She was always super supportive of my craftiness. If she were still alive, I would love to make her a quilt. Donna, you are such a talented lady and Fran, you are so lucky to have your wonderful mom. Happy mothers day to you both!
Hummingbird feeders out all year. They require more filling in Summer. Only use sugar 1 cup and water 4 cups stir to dissolve sugar. Do not use the colored liquids nor any food coloring.
I love watching all your videos and all the fabric choices you make. The videos of late that have the images of your material choices or even better. It gives us a chance to see what the pattern might look like made up in the Fabric you’ve chosen. Keep up the good work girls. I have every one of your books.
Love this video! Y'all are so sweet. I too grew up watching my Mom sew. I was obsessed with the cardboard mat she would lay out her patterns on. Also loved her sewing table and I would set myself up on the end and color while she sewed away. I'm actually working on one of your patterns "Porch Rails" for my Mom's Mothers day quilt.
Wow! That Hummingbird fabric and the bright flower fabric with black & gold flecking simply gorgeous. One of the greatest features you do for your Sewist/Quilters is "Rendering". I wish I had this feature to me always but appreciate Fabric Cafe doing it for us. 🧵🪡

Beautiful as always. Here in Maine, my hummers are usually back by end of April first of March.
Absolutely loved tranquility and wasn’t sure about the garden path choices but when I saw the rendering WOW! I already put in my Mother’s Day request for the new book! 😂
Yay!
My Mom had the same three interests plus she loved to bowl. Love your Three Yard Quilts and videos.
I love to bowl too! I don't go as often now, but love it when I do!

Hi ladies, we have our Hummingbird Feeders out all year long in California (Monterey). :)
Beautiful quilts-as usual. 💕

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your kind words. I feel so blessed! Donna
The Boho quilt is going to be absolutely gorgeous when it ages! ❤
We leave our feeders out year round in case there are stragglers during migration. We usually see them from around March 15 to October 1st.
In Arizona we leave them out year round
Hello Donna and Fran,
Great show today. I like all the prints you showed today. Good quilt choices for Mother's Day. ❤
Hummingbird feeders out all year. They require more filling in Summer. Only use sugar 1 cup and water 4 cups stir to dissolve sugar. Do not use the colored liquids nor any food coloring.
Good tip! Thanks!
Put your feeders out now. They migrate earlier than you’d think. I’m in PA, and they’ll be arriving any time now.
