WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

I was just 7 years old when my parents took me back to the evangelical church that I was forced to attend every Sunday. As usual, all the people would start to "speak in tongues". I couldn't do it or understand it. Everyone one including my parents would start to jump up and down, flailing all over the floors knocking me out of chairs while I was getting slapped by the other members, rolling all over the floors knocking everyone else out of their chairs, screaming "blah blah blah" flailing around, flip flopping 3 rows up and down. I started to cry because it was so scary. It was that weekend that my parents spoke with the preacher saying if I could get 'the holy spirit" and do the exact same things as the others. The Pastor said to my parents to send me to him in order to "speak in tongues".
The pastor's wife was gone one night and he called me parents to bring me to his house. The pastor asked me to go into a small room with a doctors table with holes in it. The pastor told me right away that "Jesus" told him to tell me to get nude and on the table. I was scared of him and followed. He then said that before we begin, that Jesus said that he has to put oil all over my body.....literally EVERYWHERE. I had my eyes closed because I was so unconfortable, but when I opened them up for a second, I saw that the pastor's pants were down.
To this day, I am an Atheist. I haven't spoken to my parents in decades and am still in therapy. It wasn't bizarre to hear that us children put him into prison where he is still there today. I'm doing a lot better but still cry a little bit once in a while when i hear Christians ask me if I am a believer. I WAS JUST 7 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!! And I know this still goes on today by this cult!!!
bloody hell, sorry that happened to you.
@@platinumnitrocharge4218 It's okay my friend. I'm happy now away from the churches and my parents after decades
Dropping your parents was a good decision, what happened to you is abuse!
Pure and simple.
And imagine if it wasn’t a religion doing this to a kid? EVERYONE would see how wrong it is.
But if it’s the baby jesus, it’s a-okay. Or at least, the abusers are given the benefit of the doubt.
I am sorry ❤
Lee Strobel was such a skeptic and so firmly entrenched in his atheism that in his book “a case for Christ” he only interviewed evangelical apologists and not a single scientist or skeptic. Truly the embodiment of making a great case.
This conversation was amazing. Top notch.
"i dont know but i believe" is a great position. Honest, natural, simple, humble, open-minded and individualistic. Mere "i dont know" is also fine, probably even more open-minded and humble, but that is debatable.
As an atheist i loved the case for christ. If you ever wanted to show someone about fallacious arguments Lee pretty much makes them all.
"Lee Strobel Made Me A Christian!" Then you weren't really a true atheist ;o)
Paraphrasing Matt D., they might have been an atheist but they weren’t a skeptic.
@@Byorinthey at best were believers who just hadnt been exposed to the nonsense in the right way. Atheists know why they don't believe the nonsense and understand TRUTH of REALITY.
Thank you for the video :3
Another ex atheist who became a Christian because of strobel. Yeah I believe that
Thanks to the internet, I have become a better atheist. I have even less respect for theists, having learned how astonishingly gullible they are. Even contradictory resurrection accounts fail to make them question the authenticity of the claim. In itself, the resurrection is an extraordinary claim, without the support of extraordinary evidence. Further to that, there has been no extraordinary 'second coming'.
Well I made myself an atheist independent thinker.
Jonathan claims he wants 'to know as many true things and as few false things as possible' but that's just a wish unless he can show he's using better reasoning than shown here.
I'm about 2/3 the way through this video, and so far, all I hear is that Jonathon has immense and extreme reverence for the stories presented in his one book. This reverence has caused such bias in his mind, that everything else he sees causes him to believe the claims of that one book and doubt and discount all evidence to the contrary, whether of other religions or for evidence contrary to his own. He simply can't see past the bible. I suspect this immense reverence for the book was drilled into him from childhood, whether he can recognize that or not. He's not thinking critically about his book's claims in the same way he thinks about the holy claims of other religions, or really anything else. I mean, isn't this pretty much how it goes for most callers?
People are always at their best when coming back from vacation.... well except for the rent joke.
Lee Strobel is one of the most overrated "apologists".
He's do bad he needs his own apologist
Strobel is a con artist getting rich off the gullible
If I provide the wood, do you think Lee Strobel would make one for me ?
Actually, your response to accepting a belief is backwards. You say that you have reasons not to believe in any particular belief, such as any value of Mormonism.
What you should be doing is put a pin in that concept and not "believe" until you have sufficient evidence that would warrant belief.
If you believe until you have evidence not to believe in a concept, you are saying you are willing to accept EVERY concept unless evidence is provided to disregard that concept.
Just give that a thought.
Watching this channel bring on trans people and expect to be taken the least bit seriously made me Christian bring back the old matt
What does your sexuality have to do with your philosophical stance on the question of the existence of a god?
@@diogeneslamp8004 because i want to have a conversation with a sane rational person first and if you cant even be honest about the fact you cant actually change genders, then why could i or would i respect anything else you have to say? Your already trying to be deceptive and then if i dont play along im actively lying to and my word means nothing.
@@diogeneslamp8004nothing obviously. Non sequitur fallacy. Disingenuous as always...
@@michaelrobinson300
Do you think gender and sex are the same thing?
@@danielkeizer4174
I’m looking forward to him pretending-against all the evidence-that gender and sex are the same thing, putting paid to the idea that his position is evidence-based.
Repent. Believe in Jesus Christ for salvation and become a new person in this life. Luke 13:3 KJV I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Romans 10:9 KJV That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Could you stop spamming this nonsense....
Have you ever gotten one person to follow your failed apocalyptic preacher from posting this?
@@concretesandals4501 Bots don't care, and stubborn people care even less.
"Bleep blop bloop blop" to you too, you fool who's so stubborn that a bot is your ideal; your idol; your god. How do I know? Because you say you're preaching, but apparently you couldn't preach heroin to a junkie. So if you're not trying emulate a zombie Jesus bot, what is the point of this?
Blah blah blah. Book says a thing.
