- Texas Motor Speedway November 2009 delivery by a US Army Chinook Helicopter!
When I shot the video, I was unaware of what was about to happen before us all. Several months after shooting this video and posting, I was contacted by one of the pilots friends. The Pilot was shot down and died in Afghanistan. The pilots father had never seen him fly; my understanding is they showed this video, at his funeral.
Many folks have said in the comments that this was done via Computer Graphics. It wasn't . I was sitting near Turn 1, with a Panasonic handheld HD video camera. Except for the first few frames and last frames , i have not altered this video.
For those naysayers that continually say this is fake .. CGI.. just move on

I had to rewind this video when I heard the announcer say (the copilot) Bryan Nichols' name. His son and I knew each other many years ago, and my uncle was one of Bryan's best friends in the service. For those who don't know, Bryan was killed in action on August 6, 2011 after his chinook was shot down by Taliban fighters with rocket propelled grenades. The crash left 30 Americans and 8 Afghanis dead, marking the single costliest day for the United States in Afghanistan. I did not expect to find myself reflecting on these things when I tuned into this video.
Still, I am delighted that this fantastic clip has preserved a bit of what Bryan did, and I am extremely grateful to have stumbled upon it.
WOW... thank you for putting your words here! God Bless our military and Patriots like Bryan that have put their lives on the line for the rest of us... God Bless
Man, so sorry man. I hold anyone who served in the U.S. military on a very high pedestal, especially if you sacrifice your life in the process.
I cant believe these guys are the ones who were killed in extortion 17, the greatest single lost of life for Naval Special Warfare Command as well as the greatest single lost of life incident in the US military in the war. I literally just re-read about extortion 17 like a few days ago, and now I coincidentally watch a video of the pilots and crew of that Chinook.
Rip Bryan you will never be forgotten because of people like this sharing your heroism and story

@@squidusn71 I can see your point of view but in measured amounts for suitably large occasions I suggest such a spectacle is good for promoting national pride and as a recruiting tool for the American military services.
Listening to the commentary their air base is fairly local so it wouldn't have been in the air for too long.
@@alangood8190 I can understand the publicity which I'm not against by any means. The Poster of this video believes that this type of spectacle is for training purposes which I find it ignorant on his/her part.
The air time maybe short but what the public don't see are the amount of time to prep/preflight/manhours, logistic, idle time before take off, and post operations. It is ridiculously not cost efficient.
The money would have been better spent on your health service which, from a British point of view, is a national disgrace. Why do the American people put up with it?

They're speaking of Col. Hurley on the intercom, this was when he was JUST selected for NASA. He flew on the Commerical Crew mission with spacex
NO this is NOT a waste of taxpayer money. This crew would have already been scheduled for training, and the military loves doing unusual stunts like this just because the unusual stuff is always the best training. Not often that reserve air crews get to land in a heavily populated area with 2,000 pounds of cargo and hazards all around such as the high fence. Besides, even if they did not deliver the car the crew would still have been flying a mission that day so you would have been paying for it anyway. Plus its excellent advertising for the army reserve, guarantee a bunch of kids and teenagers are gonna see that and say "That would be the coolest job ever". Who knows maybe some guy saw this and joined the army reserve and actually helped with the hurricane relief in Texas.
It's a good way to cast new kids for the army... sick country

The military probably wrote it off as a cargo drop-off practice training session. The "training session" excuse is how we got to see the SR-71 pay visits to various air shows, despite the immense cost of flying it. They'd fly a training mission and make the fly-by(s) a part of it, usually on the way back to home base. I saw it at the Reno Air Races that way.
