Trust man, a desk mat will help preserve that desk. Not 100% because the edges and corners are always exposed but it will help.

Was wondering about your bed platform. I have a 12-13" mattress. Would it stick up considerably with this low profile? Also would it be possible to just set a taller mattress on the ground, leaving the slats out, for a lower profile if height is a problem? Thanks, sweet set-up! As a DIY'er I wonder about using a router and digging out some wireless charging pads in the wood nightstands to hide cables, or just drilling holes thru them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nope, I have a 12” mattress as well and it’s perfect. In fact, I wouldn’t have minded a 14” mattress LOL. Not sure about leaving the slats out though?

How did you mount the sony a6000 on top of the monitor?? Looking for a permanent sturdy solution...
I have an extra Gorillapod and used that to wrap around the monitor mount arm. It’s sturdy when it’s stationary but if I adjust the monitor at all the gorillapod tilts with it a bit and I have to adjust accordingly

Doesnt a matress needs air to breath ?
When you first get it yes. You need to roll it out and let it breathe for 48 hours. At least for the one I got. Once that’s done, you’re good to go
