  • How to custom program Electrochromic Displays with the Arduino UNO
In the previous video we looked at ynvisibles electrochromic display panels and tried out their demo interfaces and code, in this video I want to show you how easy it is to directly program them yourself with simple code.
I have taken the LED code from my earlier video and modified it for these displays, I also show how to optimize it by leveraging direct port manipulation (This does however make it ATMEGA 328 specific but with little effort can be used with other microcontrollers.)
My code can be found here with the earlier LED code for a comparison

    history:-
I wanted to save power over LED displays and came across ynvisible' s line of electrochromic displays, these are not your off the shelf displays as there currently made to order but I have suggested to them that maybe they should create some standard displays and sell them as a line, this way people can get to use them without needing thousands to get a good price.
They use perhaps 1 microwatt per cm2 compared to 400mW for LED,
They kindly sent me a kit to play with so here is the initial look, testing with their provided modules, driver boards and code, in the next video I will demonstrate how easy they are to interface using a standard Arduino Uno.

Code and libraries i used are here:- www.ynvisible.com/getting-sta...

Thank you for your interesting video! Actually, I didn't understand how Arduino makes minus voltage in your new circuit. Could you explain how it is possible?

Well, they look interesting though it looks like they're into the custom large-scale market rather than the low-volume prototype area by the look of their ad and cost of evaluation kit??

i mentioned that to them, and suggested making some sheets that can be bought on their own for perhaps a thermostat or other non frequent update application, if they did a run of them they could make them very cheaply and get the word out even more

Hi Peter. Yes, you're right. We're considering making a more "maker friendly" offering soon. What would be a reasonable price point and offering?

@@ynvisible Can't put a figure on it at this instant but when you do - it would make sense to update Peter (the Breadboard - here) and myself (via my blog at tech.scargill.net - I'm always interested in evaluating new products) - I'm based in Spain and as you know, theBreadboard is based in Canada.

@@ynvisible What do the displays cost without accessories? How about an interface for a PI? I am also amazed at the high price. 3 months later and nothing has changed.
