Gloves allow people in the ring to throw punches way harder than usual because it protects their hands from breaking. In a real life situation these guys couldn't throw their hardest punches. If these guys used BJJ they would have probably died because they can't protect themselves from other attackers. Watch 5 vs 5 MMA on youtube to see what happens when you use BJJ or wrestling in a group fight, you get your head smashed from behind because all four limbs are used to lock onto one person, they can't defend themselves anymore. There's a reason a lot of these traditional martial arts avoided ground game, because it's death in real life situation, also why a lot of them teaches palming the face, because the fist is ineffective on a hard skull.
