Awesome video and great explanation, thank you.
I just added a 4TB Crucial P3 Plus SSD to mine and so far so good. Thanks for the visual guide!
I'm doing the same. Do you think 4TB would work in both slots?
@@edwardatkinson113 I honestly don't know enough to say as this was the first time I have installed an additional NVME SSD. I bought the same type of copper heat sink used for the original SSD and bought a thermal pad from Amazon appropriately sized. I have had no issues so far the past 4 months. Both slots should physically be able to handle the 4TB drives but I couldn't get anything official from ALIENWARE regarding the computer's ability to handle processing this amount of storage. It shouldn't theoretically be a problem since I regularly use 4-5TB external storage HDs in addition to these internal SSDs but I would rather someone more expert than myself weigh in.
Hello i don't have a heatsink and pretend to get one can i install the ssd and later install the heatsink?
Any idea where the ram slot is for this unit? As I am having trouble looking for it. Thanks!
it doesn't have a ram slot because the ram is soldered to the motherboard
I got the 1TB option of the laptop and apparently they have 2x 512GB in each slot, so how do i replace 1 of them to have a 1 or2 TB, since in disk manager its consolidated into one?
Remove the raid bios but if you do this you going to have to reimage the system and make sure to do the bios update first this normally repair a lot of issues.
I gave up before I even started. The very first screw got stripped. 😅
Hi! I have a M17 R4 which I think is basically the same computer, just bigger.
I was able to initialize/format my new SSD (Kingston NV2 1TB M.2 NVME) in slot 2 and it worked fine initially, but after turning off the laptop and cold booting it a few hours later, the SSD no longer appeared in my Disk Management/Device Manager/BIOS (Device manager says it is not connected; Code 45). It now only shows up when I reboot my computer through the BIOS AFTER a cold boot (and even then, it doesn't show up in the BIOS). Any advice would be much appreciated!
If the laptop has a 512 nvme on one slot, can I install a 1 tb nvme of other brand on the second slot?
Yes you can install any brand
Hi I'm quite noob to this, but would I need to match the type of NVME in any way for the 2nd slot to what's already in the first? (Brand / Size etc?) (Or does that only apply to ram?) :) I have a 2TB NVME default, but need 2TB more thanks
This is the one I have in Slot 1 >> 2TB PCIe NVMe M.2 2280
You can use a 30mm Nvme or 80mm. Make sure you get the mounting bracket from dell tho
@@Harkie760 I sent Alienware laptop back lol absolute crap! It got so hot you could feel burning on the back metal even if your finger was close but not touching... WAAAAAAAY overheating for what's safe for sure. Didn't waste any time returning. Sadly there's not a laptop out there powerful enough for me yet :( (That doesn't catch fire or explode)
@@24yrukdesigner no way! Not what I wanted to hear LOL. I just ordered mine. Have you seen the videos where people adjust max temp in bios. Apparently that solves the heat issue. Was there anything else you didn’t like about it?
@@Harkie760 It also came with a white circle in the middle of the screen (Purchased new from Dell) Looked like damage and could only be seen from higher than laptop height angles on darker backgrounds, but proper annoying. It was supposed to be an upgrade from my 5 years old Cleveo but it felt a lot less quality all over. Alienware looks sweet, full of problems.
That frikkin screw is impossible to unscrew, ended up loosing the thread on the screw and now the driver is slipping inside the screw:/ gonna have to return the new ssd fml
You should be able to run Windows on one and Linux on the other, correct?
Yes you can have duel boots but this system suck and over heats
@@Upgradetech I really don't plan on gaming on it. I want it for video processing.
So i cant add more ram !!!??😢😢😢😢 k nvm ill keep looking for another laptop
U have a 3rd ssd to the left
Would like to know exactly how you get to 1:19
