The marine grease is the way to go. I have the TRX4 Bronco (as well as 2 axial scx10's, MST CMX, vaterra ascender, and CC01 Pajero). I've been using the marine grease for a while now and it's done a great job of keeping the water out, so much so that any bearings where the shields are not exposed I remove the shields, as I've had more failures from a bearing locking up due to lack of grease than I have from water. (I put a LOT of miles on my crawlers).
Ahhhhh, i see you kept the best for last, Tamiyas CCO1. I love the CCO1, I’ve got 8 or more of them, don’t really know why, i think 🤔 i have a thing for them lol 😂 . I’ve absolutely no interest in Tamiyas new cc02, if you have a 4 link, you don’t really need one. But you’re other proper crawlers are the best around, especially the traxxas.
@@mikeymike3240 agreed on the CC02 (that's why I have the CMX). I don't know if I could deal with 8 CC01's though. I have the Pajero Rally (I used to have a bronco as well). The suspension is mostly stock other than arrma front buggy shocks in the rear. Shorty 3S battery up front and a 3:1 gear reduction unit really makes it crawl. I really enjoy making it go places a CC01 is not supposed to be able to go. ruclips.net/video/X0bkaIva7wc/видео.html
As another person indicated marine grease is perfect. I used Lucas Oil blue marine grease. I’m not sure if it’s sold in the UK but you can get a large amount for under $10usd. Also I’d suggest at some point you try doing the Sport unassembled kit. It’s an amazing kit and has a much better body with scale accessories and light buckets. For brass I did Treal outer portal covers on the front and cheap Benedict Harry ones on the back to keep it more forward biased. Also make sure you use some blue loctite when screwing into the brass portal covers
When I used to go 1/10th buggy racing in the 80's and 90's on wet grass and mud, as soon as I got home I used to spray all the axles and driveshafts with wd40 that evening. That would allow me to re build it at a later date when I had more time knowing the bearings won't be seized up when I got the out again.
@@RCKickschannel nothings ever a fail , it was a great video in which shows it's not all plain sailing in the world of RC content making. You bring alive the show like no other. If anything it shows the viewer's bearings fail too.. Look forward to part 2
Gavin that body has turned out great super improv got to agree with Barry too you really should stip the truck down . Another excellent vid thanks mate
Yeah cool custom body! I’ve done a few in the past, they’re lots of fun! 👍 Look forward to the next video! Actually, a maintenance series isn’t a bad idea actually! Strip down series after winter or something! 👍
Knew a printer who'd given me loads of vinyl off cuts so gave an all black Slash a partial wrap and to this day that is one of my fave paint jobs. I regrettably sold it but have a virtually identical brand new Proline Desert Rat shell waiting for the warmer weather to paint it though.
Thanks 👍 As soon as the replacements arrive I can finish up the TRX4 and get it back out crawling. With a bit of luck we will have some snow for it to play in.
ya Gav you got the right idea with the grease brotha, i have 3 Trx4's and one of them is for beating the living crap out of, water, mud all that stuff and i also had the same problem with rust, i didn't clean the truck for over a year, other than a simple spray in the sink!! When i "waterproof" my crawlers i do use marine grease and pack the axle tubes full to stop the crap from getting in. it does work great but it's never 100%, that's just the way it is when you play in water but it's soooo much fun;) Trx4's are not my favorite crawler but there is absolutely no denying there durability that's for sure.
Ended up good, but still think you should have done the Nissan racer sheme. You could have cut the pretecting film off where the red should go and simply painted it on the outside. Hemistorm do that tric all the time, but usually with flat clear, but the idea is the same. I have had scale rigs since 06', and running on salt water is a really bad idea. Fresh water not so much, just make sure when you come home, clean, let it dry. I''m only running steel bolts, I had never issues with them rusting, because I clean it when I come home and then let if fully dry. If you run regulary run in water, it may be recomended to pull things apart every 2-3 runs to lubricate and change bearings when needed. And yes marine grease is highly recomended, you won't belive the difference running with marine grease vs without. Don't stuff the whole axle with marine grease, it will just rob power. Most important is to cover behind bearings and where the axle halfes meets. Over the years I have found that marine grease don't tend to stick to gears, for that I use CV joint grease for real cars. For driveshaft joints, use dry lube as PFTE as it is not sticky so it won't let sand and dirt stick to joints, which will make the joints wear out faster. Let the rig just sit after a muddy or a run in water is just a bad idea. For the portal gears, just let them sit in a bowl of WD40 or something to get rid of the rust before you install them. Fast Eddy bearings seems to be the brand other go for, but I have no trouble of using bearings from rcbearings.co.uk, just make sure they are the rubber seal type. I enjoy watching your videos and hope 2021 will be a blast for you. Keep up the great work :-) Cheers from Norway.
marine grease is fantastic in the gear boxes and the axle housings get packed its really a mess but is nessasary to keep water out. i only have rubber shielded bearings on outside bearings where they are directly exposed to the elements. i remove seals on all internal bearings and everything gets really healthy packed full of marine grease. to waterproof my electronics i use dialectric grease in the same liberal fashion. fluid film is great to spray the entire underside of the chassis and drivetrain.
With the pre built Trx4s is they have hardly any grease in them.... I have the sport kit and I use red n tacky grease.... I also spray the whole chassis with wd40 ptfe spray... It help repelling dirt and water and makes it easy to clean after every run 😎👍
ouch i live in canada on the atlantic coast i change bearings all season long they really dont last long. after every second run i re oil bearings saves the hard parts from spun bearings
Hi WM, Yep I know, it was a massive outlay for sure and thats why I went for the sport as it's the lowest cost version. I can 100% recommend them so if you get a chance I don't think you will be disappointed. You can get the TRX4 builders kit now and thats less so go for that one if budget is limited as you can add your own used electronics and things like that.
I’m a big fan of the sport and it’s fantastic for trails, rock crawling. The thing is a tank. I can’t recommend it enough. I would have gone for the Land Rover version but it was just way out of my budget.

Good recovery Gavin, you could have also just purchased a sheet of red vinyl for the back half and custom cut it to match the yellow orange.
Proud to be associated with this. Love the new body, great work.
