  • I wanted to get you part 2 as soon as possible, so here it is! This one was interesting because it was my first time making a pleated skirt like this, but I think it turned out fantastic!
You can download the pattern for free over at the Culture Japan website here: shop.smartdoll...

Thank you for making these videos, they're so helpful! I wouldn't have had a clue how to decipher the patterns without seeing them done. I'm a super novice at sewing, but have just bought a doll and a used sewing machine to give it a go.

Word of advice for the bow, from someone who has sewn a ton of bows. Take a knotted thread through the center of your bow piece, then each side edge, pull through and wind around the whole middle of the thing once or twice and slip a quick knot in there. Saves pinching the tiny piece of fabric while you try setting the cross strip in place.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ you could use a hemostat. They sell small nosed ones around the areas where you buy hooks for fishing. Walmart, and outdoor stores.

I laugh at myself sitting here watching someone sew doll clothes to elevator style music...lol. sew sewthing.
I was afraid to start the skirt, but now feel confident I can do it. I made two shirts yesterday and the collars are much nicer than the first. They're not cut for the busty girls though.
Many thanks for your instructional videos. Oh and now I'm exploring iplehouse.. and found a website that sells skads of doll brands. 🙄🤨🤪 lordy. On to the leggings video. 😘

Thanks for making this nice video. It always helps me to see someone else actually doing a thing. ^_^
    You don't need to sew the bottom hem up. When you sew the inside of the pleats, that will keep the hem in place. I sewed the inside pleats first and then did the ones that are only sewn at the top. The patterns seem to show that the last three pleats don't have the same marks to "SEW" as the rest? I wasn't sure what to make of that... I apparently completely missed that that some pleats had topstitching -___-;
In the instructions, it looks like the closure has the right side overtop of the left. I think that actually makes it lay a little nicer.

Thanks for the video. I don't know how my skirt ended up bigger than it should be. Lol. Now that I've watched you're video, I'll try it again.

Holy Cow. While my drawing teacher once told us to never put a mark on paper unless it counted (create light or dark, form or texture) and I knew each mark on these patterns means something, I have no idea how you interpreted them all. I did my bow completely incorrectly - thinking the circle meant center, not leave a hole here.... As for the skirt, well that's a story only my dustbin can tell..... Thank you for this!!!!

    • @UnderOrange

Well the hole for the bow got put on the back side making the circle front and center, so you might not have been far off there! I'm a firm believer in "if it works its not wrong" when it comes to sewing, lol. I'm glad seeing my methods helped, though!

Oh wow thank you for explaining about the cropping! I was going nuts over trying to fix that, thinking it was some kind of error on my end.
    ( -.-)

I'm so glad it helped! It's definitely something that's super confusing unless you've encountered it before!

Thanks for this video! A couple of tips: you can use a large safety pin to turn pieces. It works awesome! As far as marking, if you use a frixion pen for your markings it can mark all your pleats and other marks. The pen marks are removed woth the heat of the iron when you press.

When I am assembling pattern pieces with markings I often cut the one side right to the line so it can sit on top of the other sheet and that I can line them up properly.

Hemostats work great for turning things like the bow.

I definitely plan to make that one. Up first is the standing collar trench coat, but I think I'll tackle the blazer after that!

The waist band hangs just below the stand anchor on her back.
