    I think ACE is under-appreciated. The Bible verse integration and bite-size layout is excellent. We used it for all subjects from Kindergarten thru 12th grade with 3 children, with a few detours. For our family we had to move away from ACE Math & Science during high school (didn't learn this until the oldest fought her way thru it), because in Math we needed more help (Teaching Textbooks). In Science we needed to move away from formulas (The 101 Series). We also added IEW for the 3rd child last 2 years of high school. If I had more children, I would use ACE again.

    Thanks for this. My 15 year old hates BJU press because there is too much fluff and hates the lectures and reading and workbook and then handouts… she just likes to get in and get it done and not have all the fluff. I shouldn’t say she hates BJU, but like I said, she hates the fluff. I think ACE will be a good fit for her. I’ve felt that for years but everyone told me how HORRIBLE ACE was. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut.

      I graduated from an ACE school. I used this curriculum the whole time, and I pretty much was always on the honor roll.
      Now I'm 28, and I'm going to my local community college, and I'm realizing how unprepared I am. Your child will not learn how to write a five paragraph essay. Your child will not learn how to conduct research.
      The math curriculum is so bad that my school actually stopped teaching it in 4th grade and we did Saxon math instead.

    • @lovelightshine2329
      @lovelightshine2329 4 месяца назад

      That would depend on if you were using it as a curriculum or a supplement or single subject.Each Pace is about 4 pages a day for 3 weeks. Of course some kids go through it faster, though I'd recommend "keeping the pace" and perhaps adding videos or projects to it rather than blowing through them quickly. (You know your child best)
      So if it is the curriculum for the year - start at your child's grade level, you would need about 3 books at a time in the subject and could order the next group when needed (maybe when you are beginning the last book) you would need this for each subject you planned to use the program for.
      If you only wanted to use it for 1-2 subjects - say math & science - then you might choose to do as she did and select the subject topics the child is more likely to enjoy learning about. Depending on your lesson plan you may decide to only teach/do Sci & SS 2 times a week or every other week - you decide. In that case the Pace would last longer or you might choose to do 8 pages, 2x a week. Great thing about home-school - it's up to you how to pace it.

    how independent did you find these ACE science PACES? especially for grade 7/8

    • @lovelightshine2329
      @lovelightshine2329 4 месяца назад

      That depends on how independently your child works on most subjects. It's read - answer the question. I find the Paces usually need some supplement to keep it from being mundane and to enhance learning. Math might need more, so if you are not wanting to sit and teach than you could always sign your child up for Khan Academy (grade/subject) and they can look up the resources they need for instruction/help there. (and you can see if they have completed an assignment) Helping your child know where to find resources goes a long way in working independently; especially helpful in middle school.

      Hello, I have 2 children using paces for most subjects. The paces are meant to be completed in an average of 3 weeks. So you take how many pages are in the page your working through and divide by how many days your schooling in a 3 week period. For example we do a 4 day week which means we have 12 days to complete a pace. But we subtract 1 day for testing at the end of the pace. So we have 11 days to complete it , 12th day test. Depending on how many pages if there are 37 …divide it by 11 days and you get a little over 3 pages average a day for that book. So you could do 3 one day 4 the next and rotate. Hope that helps.

      We use ACE for most core subjects. There are 12 Paces and each one is supposed to last 3 weeks for a total of 36 weeks when they are all complete. Each book is broken up into 3 sections with a page or two of checkups at the end of each section so thats how we divide it. We do the pages before the checkup on Mon-Thurs and the checkup on Friday. On the 3rd week of the PACE we finish our work Mon-Wed and do the checkup and self-test on Thurs and test for the entire book on Friday. You can really divide it how you want but that schedule works for us. You could even do more pages per day if you only wanted to do science a couple days per week. Hope this helps...

      I actually used the chemistry curriculum in high school. I do NOT suggest using their high school science courses. They will not learn anything. They will learn how to regurgitate the answers. But when it comes to the equations that they have to solve in the PACEs, unless your child is extremely gifted at math, they will struggle, and they won't have a teacher to ask for help.
      If you have your heart set on using a Fundamentalist Christian curriculum, I suggest Abeka or Bob Jones for high school. I know that they're a lot more expensive, but the quality is much higher.

      They could ask their parent for help... Just because someone uses PACE at home does not mean they dont have teacher involvement. I have a college degree and can help with math.

    This curriculum is NOT good. I went to christian schools my whole life and this is the only curriculum we ever used. It relies completely upon wrote memorization. This means that students can get by with just memorizing the answers and don't fully understand the curriculum. Also, God forbid you have a child who has a reading disability (like dyslexia, the most common learning disability in the the world) because they're just out of luck.
    If you're set on using a Fundamentalist Christian curriculum, I would suggest using Abeka or Bob Jones. They're both much higher quality.

      BJU does offer more curitical thinking but Abeka is just memorizing the answers and testing. We have used Abeka video for 8 years... Also, just because a child uses ACES in a home setting does not mean that they will be "out of luck" and not have a teacher/mom who is educated to help them.

    I grew up on ACE. A great way to mentally cripple your child. Fortunately, I had a library card and a fascination with real science.

      not to mention that all it teaches you is how to memorize the answers.
      It's a great way make sure your kids don't know how to think for themselves. I didn't actually learn how to have and defend an original opinion until I went to college at the age of 27. But Fundamentalist Christians don't want their children to have their own opinions, so I guess that checks out.

      @get2dachoppa18 I think it's you, not the curriculum. Plenty of public schooled kids didn't get anything out of school either, but they don't find youtube videos and comment blaming the curriculum that was used. Most of the stuff I've learned wasn't in school either.
