  • In today's video I'm sharing a flip-through of some writing curriculum resources from Critical Thinking Company. I love their company and am excited to add these workbooks to our language arts curriculum. One thing that makes this curriculum special is how it seems to take the best of IEW and EIW and present it in an affordable, non-intimidating way!

Thank you this was very helpful. As a natural writer I find these expensive writing curriculums absurd! There's nothing new about writing, you are just paying for the packaging! Also I find they stifle personal style and imagination. There are completely free full writing curriculums written by teachers online if you dig for them. This looks like the perfect supplement to what I'm using. 👍

Can you share more about what you are using and free online writing curriculum you like? I'm a writer too, but translating writing for children is another thing. So far I am looking at Critical Thinking Co and also using RUclips writers tips channels.

@@yiskahrose1474 we used Nancy Fetzer free curriculum, not sure if you can still get it but she has lots of freebies. We used a book called real world writers that covers 7-11yrs for £20. Also lots of graphic organisers, we keep the writing to what her interests are. We read alot of poetry, Shakespeare all genre's really, I find writing just teaches itself once the fire is kindled! We will be doing some Ks3 English anthology and building on learnt skills for middle school. Hope this helps, seriously just Google free writing curriculums you will find lots.

This video came at such a perfect time for me as I have been stressing for 2 months over a writing program for my son and waffling between IEW, EIW and others - but they look so overwhelming! Thank you!!!

Thank you so much! This video was very helpful. I looked into IEW I didn't think that was for me. I was going to purchase EIW but the program's $100 and then the grading send off is another $100, so it's a bit pricey. I wanted to see what else was out there before I purchased it. I think I'm going to give this a try first. Thanks so much!!

Have you done a video on what you do and don’t like about essentials in writing? Curious what parts of it you liked/didn’t like as I’m considering it for the future. Also, thank you for this video!! I have looked at these workbooks before but haven’t seen a flip through or explanation. They look great!

Thank you for this video! I will definitely be checking out these resources. I like the points of comparison with IEW. I have been contemplating IEW for a while now. While it seems to be very thorough in its approach to writing, my kids and I find it to be very overwhelming and intimidating. However, we have been using Fix It Grammar, but I feel like it's way too easy for them. I know there's no one size fits all, so we'll continue to search for what works for us. Thanks again!
