RUclips is surprising sometimes. Whichever person recently shared my Mucky Secrets Prologue video and made it go viral amongst 45-64-year-old Taiwanese people, thank you! May the rest of the world follow.
I've been working on a 90-minute documentary called "Mucky Secrets", about the weird and wonderful marine life of Indonesia's Lembeh Strait, one of my favorite muck diving destinations. Here's a prologue I made in advance of the full release. I really tried to show the personalities of all these quirky little creatures. Thanks to Two Fish Divers who I stayed and dived with, and to ***** for the beautiful music. #scubadiving #underwaterthursday #marinelife #lembehstrait
Thank you so much for comforting me. You communicate with these little creations - I cannot understand it...fantastic.... I have never before seen many of them Eva K.
I've finally completed my documentary, "Mucky Secrets", about the fascinating marine life of the Lembeh Strait in Indonesia. Apologies for the unforeseen delay. The first part will be published on RUclips in the next couple of days, technology permitting. In the meantime, here's the prologue again to set the scene. #lembeh #scubadiving #indonesia
The common and scientific names of all the animals are available as captions under the CC button, along with the dive site names. Please subscribe to be notified when the full documentary is released. Enjoy!
Amazing. I can only imagine the work and dedication involved. As an aged diver I long to visit and see for myself but your work is the next best thing.
Most references have it down as a bicolor parrotfish (Cetoscarus bicolor), but those have fairly recently been shown to be local to the Red Sea. The rest including this one are actually spotted parrotfish (Cetoscarus ocellatus). They look almost the same.
Thanks! This was shot with a Sony HVR-Z1P HDV camera with a Century Optics +3.5 diopter in a Light & Motion Bluefin HD housing with Light & Motion halogen lights. It's 6 years old already, but I didn't replace it yet. You wouldn't buy this rig now.
Tenk you so much! Beautiful film and creatures that i had never seen in Adriatic or mediteranian sea. At my age, when diving is a memory, this is a grate gift. Thank you once more! Yours regularl visitor, Dr Djordje Siber
This is how the Reddit community comments on this stuff: www.reddit.com/r/NatureIsFuckingLit/comments/6dpchq/eyes_of_marine_life_of_lembeh_strait/ The animated gif there is now offline but it was a copy of the first part of this video.
Thanks! It's a big housing, which helps, and for a lot of the shots I had the camera resting on the bottom. I also have some arms attached to it made of "Gorillapod" which act a bit like tripod legs and help steady it.
I really enjoyed your video. I love to behold God's beautiful creations, whether it be sea, land, or creatures of the air, I love them all. Your video was excellent, informative, and there were numerous sea creatures I've never seen before. You have a God given gift and I'm glad you shared it with the world. God bless and thanks again. Thanks for your kind words divegranny1. I'm sorry but my information about the housing market is very out of date. You could try asking for advice on the underwater video forums on wetpixel or scubaboard.
What a great prologue! Looking forward to the documentary! I loved the music and watching these fascinating creatures. Can't wait to start diving myself next year :-)
Thank you for your response. I've thought of experimenting with Gorillapod-type legs, but never have. I use an Ikelite housing on a Canon HV40 (old school, I know.) Here's one of my Lembeh videos: "Wunderpus Pops and Flamboyant Cuttlefish Strolls"
Amazing HD images ! The limits of human vision cannot see perfectly and clearly these details in each single strangely gesture of creature ! Thanks for sharing. Best regards -- Domino
Nick, the shots with the spawning Mandarin Fish are just absurdly fkng amazing!!! This is THE best u/w video clip I have seen ever, by anyone! Hats off man, you've raised the bar.... again! BTW: the entire film is fintastic of course!
when you saw high building, nice car, an iphone or any object you think about engineers who conceive and made it?? but when yoy saw this unbeleiveable am marvellous world you don't think at the CREATOR :ALLAH has created it.
This is better than muck diving in person, The entire cast of characters are here and I didn't have to get wet or spend big bucks on airfare. Thank you for the wild ride!
I’m not sure how to say this, but for some reason the close up of the eyes make the creatures seem more alive, it creates an empathy for them, there is a thinking mind behind the eyes.
Fantastic footage, I love muck diving! I just spent some time in Amed, Bali, where the muck diving is comparably stunning. My wife and I are thinking about going to Lembeh now :) Would you mind telling me what camera you're using? Anyways, great work as always, thank you!

It's an aggregation of long-tailed sea hares (Stylocheilus longicauda). There is a subtitle track with the names of the various species.
