    Regarding your poll for the next paddle to review, I have a feeling the top two most voted for paddles will be between the J2K and the Apollo. I really hope you review both rather than just one or the other! Chris is going to review the Apollo anyways, and I'd really like to see Honolulu get the recognition it deserves.

    @JohnKew Pickleball In your opinion based off your extensive experience with testing Kevlar Paddles, do you think that the Kevlar surfaces last significantly longer than the carbon fiber surfaces or do both wear down at around the same rate? Just asking because I am in search of a paddle that has top tier spin that will last longer, has a great sweet spot, and is not too heavy (sub 120 swing weight).
    For reference, I am between a 3.5 and 4.0 control player from a high altitude location (Denver) who loves to use placement and strategy to use my cat and mouse soft game mentality (both when I am dinking at the NVZ and when I am back in the transition zone with drops aimed into the outside kitchen corners).

    • @johnkewpickleball
      @johnkewpickleball  Месяц назад +1

      I think there's a similar rate of wear on the texture for raw Kevlar and raw carbon, mostly because the texture is created from epoxy in the peel-ply process. The underlying surface layers (carbon fiber, Kevlar) certainly play a role, but the wear seems pretty consistent across most paddles, Kevlar or carbon

      Yeah this paddle seems like ass. What’s the purpose for a high swing weight if the paddle doesn’t have power to back it up.

    • @padflash
      @padflash Месяц назад

      @@adamheath4599 It's a niche paddle that was not well thought through. The shape is different but doesn't add much to maneuverability nor stability. The sweet spot is small, I'm just assuming the shape is a big factor for this. A 16mm thickness would have likely offered better control/feel/spin while a 14mm thickness would provide pop/power, but they chose 15mm which is seemingly is a poor compromise for paddle thickness.
      This paddle isn't even a tweener. I know John measured it at 1900 rpm (Chris measured it at 1700 rpm), but this just seems low for a paddle that doesn't offer much power and has a premium price tag. It would also be SixZero's least spin friendly paddle. When compared to the DBD, it seems like you are paying a $40 premium for the face and the collab.

    • @adamheath4599
      @adamheath4599 Месяц назад +1

      @@padflash I’m not mad at the core thickness tbh, the paddle just makes no sense imo. It’s a heavy control paddle with averageish spin numbers? So what exactly does the paddle excel at in game play? The only thing I can imagine is that the speedups will be decent because it’s easy to keep the ball in but with a high swing weight, getting pace on your speedup may be an issue for most.
      This is a real head scratcher for sure.

    About 6 months ago, in the Pickleball Apes Pro Line S review, you said the original Pro Line was your primary go-to paddle, with the S and Gearbox paddles as your other options. What is your current primary paddle and other 2-3 in your rotation? Thanks!!

      I went to the Ruby as my primary after that, for 4 months. Now I don't have a main. I was playing with the Collin Johns Scorpeus 3 pretty solid for a few weeks, but now that it's not USAP approved, I'm looking for another main

    John, I love my Six Zero paddles more than the next man, but the TBD isn't for me. My go-to paddle has been the Ruby since it's first release. My question is...have you got your hands on the 14mm Ruby? If so, comparison to the 16mm. Thanks for the informative content!

    It has that fancy 18k carbon fiber face, yet the spin is sub 2000. How did they do that?

    • @padflash
      @padflash Месяц назад

      Not to mention that the high swing weight is likely raising it's spin potential, meaning none of the "new tech" in this paddle is contributing to its spin or power. In other words, you could probably achieve similar results by adding lead to a different paddle w/ more unique characteristics to achieve similar or better performance of the TBD.
