- Hi Friends! One of my favorite things is to just aimlessly wander in the woods with friends, seeing what we find. Come along with me today as we explore the winter woods and learn some things about tracking, marcescent leaves, how snow can help us learn the forms of trees, and how to "future forage" in the winter.

We are planning a livestream this Saturday at 3:00 pm Central Standard Time (US). Would love to see you there! =)
Great reminder to go out in quiet nature and appreciate all the little details around us!
How far up north are you Ken? Lots of snow!
This video reminds me of walking through the woods with Kenton when we were kids. Same Kenton, same insights, same teachings. Wonderful to see you spread your gifts so far and wide my brother.
Such good memories, my friend. Treasuring them =) Get in touch anytime if you feel the urge!
Winter is a beautiful season in my opinion, especially, when the snow covers branches like in this video. It makes forests look like glittering palaces.
Yes it does! Amazing!
Thank you for the beautiful video! Watching you tie your boot lace reminded me of something that a friend taught me many years ago, and it was significant enough that I called it "life changing." He taught me to tie my laces the "regular" way, but to "send the rabbit around the tree twice," in the terms that we use to teach our children to tie their shoes. It does not need to be double-knotted after that, and still will untie simply by pulling a loose end, like a regular shoe knot. But it has never, ever come undone on its own over the course of the day. Just thought I'd pass that along!
Cool, Justin! I'll give it a try! =)
you allways remind me of the meaning of life :) it is freezing cold in germany, the small stream next to my yard is surrounded by icy glitter, sun shined an yet i managed just a few minutes outside today with the dogs. I should make it a priority :)
Just made my day =) That stream must be amazing -- I love how ice crystals form along stream banks!
Thanks for taking us along! What a fun video!
You bet!!
i always love to snow so much because i just think the snow is beautiful but i know there are some that hate the snow and some that love the snow that's ok because we all have our own difference perspective
Definitely! I share your love of it, Shawn!
Delightful! I remember driving through the Catskill mountains the morning after the first snow and it was truly magical! Thanks for taking us along! :)
Must have been amazing! I've never been to those ancient mountains . . . =)
Oh wow, y'all got a lot of birdies that like to come up, how cool! Little sky friends >>;=) I know you've been missing the snow this year, but I had a sneaky feeling with the blast across the country, you guys would get all loaded up. It's wild to see a forest like this, and to know in a few months, it will be lush and dense once again. We haven't had a lot of snows down here on the coast, but what I love is how well at night you can see in snow with just the moon. You should capture a little video of that when you can, it would be beautiful out in such a spacious area (if the camera can capture it well). Thanks for sharing, this was really peaceful and relaxing.
This was so delightful to watch!
Thanks Ainsley! Always such a treat to see you here, my friend =)
This was wonderful. And it reminded me, seeing you in your garb, that I think the first video I ever saw of yours was one where you discussed that particular outfit (or one quite like it). As a big fantasy nerd, dressing like that and going to live in the woods like an old wizard hermit has always seemed very appealing, haha.
Ah, we're so alike in that way! We're just about to release our first video on our new channel, which is right up this alley =)
Nice to see you actually dress warmly, and therefore be able to more fully relax and view Nature from a more philosophical mode of being! Nothing quite so magical as that first real snow. Gotta LOVE it!
Ya know, at first, before you said anything, my thought was those 'tracks' in the snow looked like snow-drop 'tracks'? I've been in the snowy woods a few times myself, and even I that know all things managed to learn just a wee bit of woods lore back in those daze of my wild and irresponsible youth!
One more thing, my friend; Ya know those weight-lifter's belts, the SUPER WIDE ones? You could get one...Ha Ha!
Oh, I do love the kjortel! And you must be noticing my belt -- a lucky score at a thrift shop -- complete with an old-fashioned brass buckle!
So happy to see you feed our dinosaurs as well 🙂 I finally got my snow shoes out. Been a prolonged Fall this year up here in Canadaland. I am also blessed by living in a forest. Nothing like it for renewal and happiness
Oh yes, we love them! So many visitors overwintering with us this year -- it's amazing! I saw your test come in -- remember that YT makes me approve every comment, so often it will take a while for me to see a comment and approve it. =)
@@ReWildUniversity ah. I forgot about holding comments
Invited to come here by goddess Christina❤ Thanks for the pleasant walk
Isn't she amazing? Thanks for stopping by!!!
That is one of the best videos that you have ever made Kenton! 😊
By the way, how is your recovery, Kenton? How do you feel?
Thanks my friend! And much better, thank you =)
Love this! We just recently had our first snow this winter and it was completely magical just like this, one of my favorite times of the year! I wish I were a little (lot) better at reading tracks and clues in the forest like you are, but I did find some tracks from some small birds. Happy New Year to you and your family!
I can hear your love of the winter outdoors in your writing! And yes, always more to learn -- that's one of my favorite things about nature -- no matter how much we know, there are still endless mysteries to unravel and discoveries to make =)
@@ReWildUniversity I do love the winter! Quick question: Is that the kjortel (sp?) you reviewed in a previous video? Are you still pretty happy with it as a functional garment? I was thinking of ordering one!
I LOVE the kjortel -- yes indeed, it's the same one. It's served me well for something like 5 years now, and is probably my favorite winter garment. =)
@@ReWildUniversity Awesome, thanks for the info!!
