Great video, great analysis. World rugby need to stop tinkering. Bill Beaumont needs to go. Yes there are clear things like the caterpillar ruck, the dupont law that can be stopped or changed. But I can't agree more. It won't be too long and rugby won't be rugby anymore. I hope all rugby unions and nations stand up to world rugby. Think about how many teams are now employing a ref as part of their coaching set up. Yes to maybe to get some advantage but it is also more about trying to actually understand what the heck is going on with constant law changes. It is a beautiful game, leave it alone now.

Mmm, interesting. The real problem is that everyone other than SA are getting very annoyed with the continued scrum resets which eats up so much game time. Of course SA will see this as an action to thwart their game plan which is to bore everyone to death by continually scrummaging but let us all be honest SA have been incredibly lucky to keep winning so many close games in the last two world cups not to mention receiving more than 50% of the 50 - 50 calls. If SA are good enough they can win with the law changes. All that it will mean is that the dominant side will still retain possession but they will actually have to use their brains to create openings in more free running play as opposed to just use brawn and oversized muscle bound players who can barely keep running for more that a minute.

    • @bunnychowmuncher
      @bunnychowmuncher 9 месяцев назад +8

We do not need Rugby league thank you.
Its very easy to change the scrumming laws without modifying scrums - just go back to crouch, touch pause engage!
This RWC had some of the best matches ever so people contradict themselves saying it was boring.
Teams also complain about South Africa's bench before a single scrum has been called saying its too powerful and creates injuries all while they contradict themselves by saying they want no replacements where a hooker for example as one example of multiple positions would have to contend with Malcolm Marx for 90 mins. How is that better for injuries? If anything that would give the SA scrum and advantage because the opponents would get ground down like in the old days and have no replacements in the last 20 mins. How does that help? Does Warren Gatland think that will increase his chances against SA?
Then if its not the laws then its steroids or poisoning opponents and even not been able to hold their flag because of some Olympic paperwork that had not been filed.
The South Africans do tend to get in the firing line a lot for totally unnecessary reasons - more than often due to envy. Other teams win and nobody gives a shit about laws do they? I nearly fell asleep in 2011 final but that was no reason to go meddle with the lawbook.

If the boks are as great as some believe them to be, they wouldn't be struggling to put away any side missing a player for 70 minutes, they were out scrummed & out tackled by a 14 man All Blacks & they simply couldn't score a try.

Well said sir ... the proposed rule changes seem very reactive to South Africa's strengths. It's particularly odd, as they never tried to negate NZ's strengths in running the ball for the last 10 years. Wasn't that also unfair against teams with big forwards and less skilful backs (I'm being facetious)? It may be that it's because South Africa inherently has something (size and power) that most other nations do not have, nor can they simply replicate it.
Skill can be learned, but genetic qualities are impossible to copy. Seems like World Rugby are following the same line that the entire world is gripped by... if you can't beat them, cancel them.

Good summation in your video. We live in strange times where world rugby can do this and we the public have little to no control to stay or do anything. I have thought world rugby is corrupt for the last decade already. They simply have too much power. We need a much wider panel that is represented by all unions to make law change decisions. I would urge that world rugby implements said rule changes and has no control over what they are. These days they keep changing the rules and they further appear to have ‘partner’ countries where they test everything (go and look at what country is trialling all the new rules). It’s all off and it is destroying the game.

Lineout & Scrum is key to the game, ensures a game for all sizes. NZ is a menace bleater nation, their ex-coaches are perpetual underminers and dark arts lobbyists, we have no rule changes after NZ, RWC wins, but loads after BOK wins.
Rassie also developed utility players across the banks who could cover most positions, including in NH internationals playing Willemse in 3 different places, giving place kicking to 9's like Faf & Kolbe, not all worked but he developed breadth of position in each back, so he could rotate forwards, actually less tirednesss of forwards leads to less injury, proven scientifically.
This last RWC was one of the most entertaining very little needed fixing. Respect to you for noticing.

As a fan I see the biggest problem around subs etc is certain teams have a player down before every set piece. It's pretending injuries that slow the game, time goes off, team gets a breather. Opposition can't keep the tempo of the game. This greatly benefits teams with massive forward packs whom can't keep up anarobicly. Of course these forwards are needed for the set piece.
How can you fix it. Perhaps if you're forward goes down the set piece is played on uncontested. This will force those players to stay involved, or go to the bench and be subbed off. Speed up the game. Allow teams to keep the tempo up.
When you speak of the jackler, they are the only way for defence to turn over ball under current rule application. I say application because a large section of the laws around rucks are only being applied to defensive teams. Offence can enter from around the ruck hitting the hips of a defensive cleaner, dive over the top of the ruck with no intent to stay on feet. Go straight onto their knees and or hands ( not supporting bodyweight/ remaining on feet. Tackle the tackler and take the players off their feet then hold the tackler under them without rolling away. The offensive team gets panelized for these offences at about 1 in 75 offences. The only way to eliminate the jackler is to applied the laws of the game to both teams.

What I don't understand is if they are concerned with player safety & with the now well known issues associated with head knocks/concussion/HIA, why haven't they mandated head gear. I understand that padded head gear 'supposedly' doesn't provide this protection, but it would save some the injuries to eras etc.
And if it doesn't provide at least a small level of concussion protection then why do we have impact absorption zones in vehicles, as the full deceleration on impact still existing?

The new rules are about making the game more exciting to watch and play - more game time with ball actually in play, more flow to the game, more pressure and tension. In the bad ol days when I played, no one took a water drinks during a match ( it takes water more than 45 minutes to be absorbed in the system, so hydration needs to be done before the game anyway), both forward packs organised their own scrums in a fraction of the time it now takes, but I must be honest, there were always the same unfit loafers who were slowing down the game any chance they could - mind you we all played a full 80 minutes unless we broke an arm or leg.

The actual problem is that they don't like Rassie Erasmus's innovative thinking and how he comes up with solutions to perceived problems/weaknesses/challenges his would encounter. Moreover if WR has remorse, why do they not show ALL the videos, from all angles, slowed down, etc of the actions where the SA have benefited from arbitration clemences?
Repeatedly the videos allowed by WR (yes they have all the rights on the images), do not show on very little slowed down from all angles, while some actions are subject to controversy. The best thing is to lift the doubts, right?

These so called rule changes and apparent motive to reel in the 'advantages' and 'dominance' of say South Africa, specifically the scrums and the bench issues are just plain ridiculous. It's almost as if they are insinuating ONLY South Africa were 'allowed' to have a huge scrum game and site more forwards on the bench ready to come on and re-inforce. ANY team COULD have ran the same tactics during the World Cup for instance, but S.A. just so happened to play a master tactic game. Watching the Chasing The Sun 2 Documentary over the last few weeks has taught us...this was no fluke from Rassie, Jacques and the rest of the coaches....planning was 24/7 for those games, stategic meetings, analysis and chances taken on match day decisions...... the same every team did I imagine...only South Africa took more risks as far as I can see. World Rugby need to be careful. Key figures there need retiring..for a second time. They're no help to the game.

Absolutely nothing to do with South Africa. If they wanted to stop south Africa they would bring in laws that curb the use of substitutions as a tactical weapon, such as the 7/1 split which would eliminate the Bomb Squad or allowing big forwards to burn through all their energy to get thr best out of them for 40 minutes, which is SA's biggest weapon. There have been lots of calls for World Rugby to introduce laws that make substitutions what they were originally intended for: cover for injured players only. But that didn't happen because they're not targeting SA.
This is all about speeding up the game and making it more exciting, and we see that with the new laws around rucks and speeding up thr ruck clearance by enforcing the 5-second rule. Slow rucks and endless scums are making rugby feel more like American football where everything stops and it takes an age for the teams to get back into the action. Today's rugby is being dominated by set piece play and it's killing the fast flow of the game that keeps the sport exciting and entertaining. None of this is helping promote the sport to the casuals or a new generation of rugby spectators who expect rugby to have the fast flow and quick set pieces they are accustomed to in football and other fast paced sports.
    There's absolutely no conspiracy here.
I fully support the changes. Speeding up the game is key to boosting the success of the sport
